Bharatanatyam Performance - (8 December 2013)

It was a moment of great pride for the school when our school’s talented student of class X-C, Hemanshi Arora, performed a full fledged solo Bharatanatyam dance performance.

This Bharatanatyam Performance was held in Azad Bhawan Auditorium, Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) on 8th December 2013. This auspicious occasion was graced by the school’s Principal, Ms. Sheena Kalenga as the Chief Guest.

The program started by the lighting of the auspicious lamp by the Chief Guest. Hemanshi performed with live music for more than 2 hours. This performance was greatly appreciated by all. She learns this fine old classical dance form under the able guidance of her Guru, Smt. Usha Rao, who is the founder of “Nritya Abhinaya” a dance institution. Hemanshi holds a senior diploma in Bharatanatyam.

In her Aarangetram, she performed the whole margam of this fine art which consisted of 8 items. Everyone was spellbound by her extraordinary eye catching performance. She connected with everyone through her dance.

SMS Girls School - Folk Dance : Click to EnlargeIn India folk dances are performed for every possible occasion, to celebrate the arrival of seasons, birth of a child, a wedding and festivals.

To hail this very spirit of our country the children of class seedling presented various folk dances from the states of Goa, Garhwal, Rajasthan, Bengal, Kashmir and Gujarat on 25 October 2013.The kids looked fabulous and lighted the stage with their charming performances.The proud parents were amazed to see their tiny tots dancing with confidence.

The audience was mesmerized seeing the children dressed up in authentic costumes. All the performances left indelible impression on everybody's minds.

India is a vast country with different cultures, heritage, languages, dances etc. On 10th October 2013, the students of SMGS showcased the different colours of our cultural feast.

Students of classes II and III presented different folk dances of India in a colourful and brilliant manner. The rainbow of cultural programmes was prepared under the able stewardship of our teachers. Parents were also invited to make them feel proud of their wards.

The programme started with the performance of students of Class II- B who presented a Marathi Folk Dance. Then came Himachali folk dance performed by class II-E. This was followed by ‘The Bihu’ dance of Assam by class II-D. Their spell binding performance was followed by Karnataka folk dance performed by students of class II-A. ’BALAMJI GHADWADE MERI PAJEB’, this was a Haryanvi song on which performance was given by students of class II-G. By this time everyone had sunk in the depth of music and dance. Then came a flawless performance of students of class II-C, who performed on the folk dance of Kashmir. This was then followed by performance of Kummi dance by class II-F. Their performance was awesome.

Then started the next level of dance performances which were performed by students of class III. The first performance was given by class III-B on folk dance of Kerela which was just amazing. Then came class III-A with Kalangali dance, folk dance of Chattisgarh. Their smooth performance was followed by class III-E who gave a sweet performance on folk dance of Bengal. Then entered students of class III-D to show us ‘The Bihu‘ dance ‘Phul Phuleese’. These tiny tots had shown a poetry of footsteps. The last performance of the show was given by students of class III-C who gave a jaw dropping performance on the folk dance of Maharashtra. The programme concluded with the inspiring speech of our honourable Principal, Ms. Sheena Kalinga who thanked the students for taking us to the different states of India.
Class I Dance Function - (27 September 2013)
SMS Girls School - Class I Dance Function : Click to EnlargeSt. Mark’s Girls Senior Secondary School hosted an Inter Class Dance Event on 27 September 2013. The programme started off with a dance performance on Durga Puja followed by a dance on Ganesh Vandana.

The children danced to the tunes taken from different states of India and other countries. Ranging from the foot-tapping numbers to the serene rendings. They were looking vibrant and left the audience wonderstruck.

The programme culminated with the address by the school Principal Ms. Sheena Kalenga.

ANNUAL DANCE
Dance is the most beautiful of all the arts, because it is life itself. Fusion dance event was held for Sapling Class on 24 September 2013. The twinkling stars of Sapling showcased their immense talent and performed without any inhibitions or fear, oblivious of the fact that they were being watched by hundreds of people. They mesmerized everyone with their enchanting performance dance by depicting different forms of dance. From Bharatnatyam to Backstreet boys to Kathak, the tiny tots left everyone spellbound by their commendable performance. The spectators cheered the little ones and the event turned out to be a grand success.
Folk Dance : Seedling - (2012)
Dance! D-Dance A-Amusing N-Noble C-Charismatic E-Entertaining. Dance is food for body, mind and soul. It rejuvenates the body filling it with pleasure and health. Keeping this in mind the tiny tots of seedling presented folk dance to satiate the five senses of human body.

India a land of diversity is blessed with different cultures which is rich, colorful and vibrant. Unity in diversity was presented by the tint toddlers who danced to different tunes of India’s diverse culture. Folk dance of Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Bengal, Haryana, Kashmir, Gujarat, Punjab and Goa was staged in perfect harmony. Audience along with the students grooved to the music. The school appeared to have wheels, taking the audience on a tour to different states of India. The glamour and glitz gave the event larger than life appeal. All the performances were well appreciated and the event turned out to be a grand success.
Folk Dance : Sapling - (17 October 2012)
Folk Dance-“Music in the traditional style of the country.” Our school showcased a folk dance extravaganza with a lot of fanfare and colors.

On 17 October 2012, amidst the festival season, all the sections of saplings exhibited the different folk dances of India like dances from Goa, Himachal, Rajasthan, Haryana and Tamil Nadu before the audience. A flamboyant and vibrant event was put up by the teachers and diligent efforts of the dainty students of saplings.

The little ones there were puffed up with enthusiasm and were delighted. The guests were full of praise and appreciation for the commendable efforts put by the young siblings. Our principal, Ms. Sheena Kalenga, an ever supportive and fervent woman for the students made the day special with her presence.
Folk dance from all over the World - (28 September 2012)
Dancers can communicate ideas, preserve cultural identities, strengthen social bonds, or just have a lot of fun. The students of class II and III presented beautiful dance from countries like Mexico, Russia, China, Thailand, etc. The audience couldn’t stop applauding. The judges were left spellbound by the mesmerizing performances by the unique dance forms. They praised the participants and their respective teaches for the undaunted effort put in to glorify the event.

Korean Folk Dance : Class III Russian Folk Dance : Class II  
Russian Folk Dance from class II and Korean Folk Dance from class III were adjudged the best dances and were presented with prizes by our Chairperson, Ms. Anjali Aggrawal and our Principal, Ms. Sheena Kalenga.

Patriotic Song Competition
Our school organized an Inter Class Patriotic Song Competition. The students of classes III and IV participated with all their enthusiasm. They presented songs which reflected their love and respect towards the country. The songs showered the rich cultural heritage of our country. The songs infused the audience with the feeling of ‘Do or Die’ for our motherland. The judges appreciated the performance of the students and the winners were awarded.
