Street theatre or nukad natak is a mirror, a sharp reflection of society. It is a form of theatrical performance and presentation in outdoor public spaces where there are large number of people. It was evolved in the early 20th century as a tool to emancipate the working class and reinforce revolution against the established power. With an accomplished mind, the students of Class V showcased their acts on varied social concerns prevailing in our modern society like Cyber Crime, Corruption, Pollution, Women Empowerment and Neglectful Parenting. Our Vice Principal, Ms. Sabina Shergill addressed the students and encouraged them with her words of wisdom.

'Theatre is a sharp reflection of the society.

On 26 August 2019, the students of Class IX presented plays conveying social messages to various strata of the Indian society. From the problems faced by the transgenders, to the extensive use of modern gadgets, the plays proved successful in enlightening young brains about social issues. The children also learnt that no work is small or big and no religion is bigger than work. The story of the blind girl also encourages us that we should stand strong and over power our disabilities. The event was applauded by the parents who graced the occasion with their presence. Our Vice Principal Ms. Sabina Shergill concluded the event by congratulating everybody for a stupendous performance.

Wise men have oft regarded theatre as the greatest of all art forms. The theatre is traditionally the place where people go to hear the truth, for what we see on stage is but ofcourse a reflection of life, a reflection of the society and its people.

With these thoughts in mind, our school organized a theatrical extravaganza for the students of Class XI on 21 August 2019.

Through their plays, our budding actors attempted to unravel mysteries that enticed yet horrified the audience, which comprised of their parents, teachers and peer. Their plays revealed that the best secrets are the ones that are the most twisted.

The students of Class XI-C presented the play Black Coffee. Their play was about an accomplished physicist Professor William Amory, who had constructed a workable formula for one of the most deadly weapons known to man - the atom bomb. His formula was mysteriously stolen, and he was callously murdered. The audience was spellbound as they watched this mystery unravel on stage.

The budding actors of Class IX-D presented the play ‘The Hallucinated Happiness’ which made one wonder what would happen if reality gets lost in the world of illusions. As the plot of their play unfolded, one realized that it would be catastrophic if the voices in our head overpower the voice that comes out of our mouth.

On this journey of thrill and adventure, the students of Class XI-A presented the play - Death by Memes. In their play, a meme artist had been murdered by a social media sociopath, and the investigators had to race against the ticking clock, to stop a live murder.

The students of Class XI-B left the audience on the edge of their seats when they presented their play - Midnight. The protagonist of their play seemed to suffer from Dissociative Identity Disorder, but psychiatric counselling bared the truth behind the garb that sent chills down one's spine.

Without any speck of doubt, one can proclaim that the plays put forth were captivating, the young actors fascinating and theaudience - the most encouraging. Thus ,this mesmerising experience shall reverberate for long in the memories of those who have been a part of this fantabulous endeavour.

Emotion, the most basic, most humane trait is one such aspect of life, which even though we often feel so strongly, is equally conflicting to express in words. There are few who dare, and even fewer who succeed in reaching out to the very bottom of our hearts, gently nudging our souls and making us feel what they desire, making us feel what they feel.

It is rightly said by Sanford Meisner that acting is behaving truthfully under imaginary circumstances.

SMGS organized a brilliant show of dramatic and comedy plays for Classes X and XII . A fabulous event of overflowing emotions and expressions. Students performed spellbinding plays with endless gestures woven out of realistic situations in our lives. The audience gathering motivated our young actors with extended applauses and whole heartedly appreciated the efforts made by teachers and students. An amalgamated string of emotions enlightened the minds of the audience. Farcical acts with comical and situational hysteria uplifted the talents and skills of the students. Our esteemed Vice-Principal concluded the event with her motivating and inspiring words that truly encouraged our young actors. All the students today truly made us all believe that theater is so endlessly fascinating, because it is so accidental. It’s so much more like life. Its mission is to raise the consciousness of people to their human possibilities.

The stage is a magic circle where only the most real things happen and a truer and more real place does not exist in all the universe.

The future of our nation depends on our ability to create and to be creative. It is rightly said- ‘Tell me and I will forget, show me and I will remember, involve me and I will understand!'

Today, the students of Class VI presented Hindi plays to showcase their theatrical talent.

Class VI-A presented - “Dhongi Baba

Class VI-B presented- “Swami or uske Dost

Class VI-C presented - “Ajab Doctor ki Gajab Kahani

Class VI-D presented - “Aam ka Ped

Class VI-E presented - “Veerangna - Rani Lakshmi bai

Indeed, a stage play is ought to be the point of intersection between the real and the imaginary world!

The students were highly appreciated by the Vice Principal as well as all the audience for doing a great job !

"Acting gives you a story to tell, a medium to express and a fabulous chance to be someone else other than you."

Role play is the base of all dramatic activities. Such activities challenge children to develop a more sensitive and in depth understanding of all the characters they play and also trains them well in all spheres of acting.

A Character Dramatization Competition was held for the students of class Sapling. Children portrayed various characters like Hansel and Gratel, Snowhite and the Evil Queen, Sita and Ravana, Beauty and the beast etc. Their costumes, enactment and confidence was appreciated by everyone.

The winners of the competition are:

I Prize - Mridini and Viha Chugh (Sapling E) .
II Prize - Bhavya Malik and Manal Sharma (Sapling A) .
III Prize - Ira Gulati and Bandana (Sapling A).

Adolescence, the transitional phase of growth and development between childhood and adulthood, is a very delicate stage. During this, the teens come across the biological growth and development, increased decision making, increased pressures and the search for self. To address the issues faced by the adolescents, the school organised Inter Class Plays.

Psycho-social disorders are more common during adolescence than during childhood, and many unhealthy behaviours begin during adolescence. These were very well portrayed by Class XI-A, in the play "I Love Myself", by Class XI-B in the play "Get to Dance" and by Class XI-C in the play, "My life, my rules". Sensitive issues like body shaming, bullying and peer pressure were the themes presented on stage in these spectacular plays put forth by the students of Class XI. The self scripted plays were much appreciated by the audience.
