St. Mark’s Girls Sr. Sec. School became a part of the workshop on effective and efficient teaching of Business Studies, conducted by Eco Visionnaire (BIY) at Andhra Education Society School, ITO, Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg on 31st July, 2018 for the enrichment of teachers. The resource persons were Mr. G. S. Alag, Mr. Amit Arora and Mr. Kunal Dua.

The key speaker was Mr. G. S. Alag, an eminent author, who discussed the major changes in the Business Studies curriculum introduced by CBSE for Classes XI and XII. He also familiarized all the teachers with the new topics added to the syllabus like Demonetisation, Goods and Service Tax, Entrepreneurship development. He clarified and strengthened various important concepts that generally creates confusions in the minds of teachers and students. He discussed variety of case studies and guided the teachers on as to how to prepare the students for attempting case studies during examination. Mr. Alag also stressed on the importance of time management techniques for attempting lengthy questions and also shared with the teachers the success mantra enabling the students to score 100% marks.

The next session by Mr. Amit Arora was an interactive session on making Business Studies an interesting subject for students. The session centeredaround various creative classroom techniques that included story telling method where the topics can be related to the real life situations by way of small stories.

The last session was by Mr. Kunal Dua, who enlightened the teachers with the different innovative ways of learning Business Studiesand also suggested the use of acronyms through which learning can be made fun and interesting for the students.

It was an Informative and enriching session for the teachers and they were motivated to enhance their teaching skills by adapting such innovative methodology.

As the world is increasingly inter-connected, everyone shares the responsibility of securing cyber space”.

SMGS organized an enlightening workshop for the teachers on cyber security. Two eminent experts of law, Mr. Manish Manocha and Ms. Reema Bhandari graced the session and indulged our teachers into an informative discussion. Teachers had a very interactive session with both the guests as they catered into the problems faced by people using cyber space. The workshop turned out to be resourceful as the teachers took up queries related to internet hacking and also laid a light upon the causes and prevention of cybercrime. This association also aided our teachers to directly look into the aspects of corporal punishments and harassment at the scholar level. Overall, it was an interesting workshop and left many minds boggled with thoughts and facts about the internet world.

"Clay modelling and pottery can be useful stress-buster as well as cool hobby."

Clay Modelling Workshop was conducted by Mr. Dalchand who has been working in the field of pottery making and clay modelling for many years and has also been honoured with state level award.

The teachers of SMGS were engaged in taking a lump of clay and rolling it into a smooth sphere to then mould it to make Ganesh idol. Mr. Dalchand showed his skills by making a bird, a tortoise and a monkey with such ease and dexterity.

The teachers enjoyed learning this beautiful art which can be mastered with practice.
Workshop on Teaching Strategies in Mathematics - (14 and 15 May 2018)

Aiming to provide an intense training on teaching Mathematics to students of Class Seedling – V, a two-day workshop on Teaching Strategies in Mathematics, was held on 14 and 15 May 2018 in the school premises. It was conducted by our esteemed Vice-Principal, Ms. Sabina Shergill along with Mathematics Department. The workshop aimed at simplifying various mathematical concepts for students through interactive hands on activities as doing is retaining. It focussed on creating an effective teaching and learning environment. The concepts covered were Place Value, Number Line, Area and Perimeter, Decimal and Fractions.

Smoking : active or passive is a health hazard that kills one puff after another slowly. It is hateful to the nose, harmful to the brain and dangerous to the lungs. With this thought in mind, a workshop based on the Psychological Effects of Smoking was held at our school St. Mark's Girls Sr.. Sec. School, on 11th May 2018 for Class 11th. At the workshop, the resource person, Ms. Meena Bisht, is a graduate from Delhi University. She has been awarded 1st rank and has been a part of the drug addiction campaign from 2015. She educated the students about the ill effects of smoking which are not limited to one's lungs but affects all our body parts like our gums, teeth, stomach etc. She effectively explained to the students that anyone who forces you to try a cigarette can not be your friend. In her interactive session, she guided the youth about the necessity and techniques of saying NO to their peer who might encourage them to pick up a cigarette. The workshop definitely roused the youngsters to the adverse effects of smoking and the need of staying away from this habit that is not only addictive but has the potential of becoming the gateway to various other disastrous consequences like depression.

Education is the passport to the future,for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.

With this perspective, St. Mark’s Girls Sr. Sec. School organized a career counselling session on 1 May, 2018 for the students of Classes XI and XII wherein different upcoming career options were taken up. The resource person for the workshop was Mr. Ish Gera, Director of Teachwell Institute. Mr. Gera is a renowned educationist and career counsellor and has been honoured with the ‘Entrepreneurship Excellence Award’ by IARDO.

It was an interactive session and gave the students an opportunity to discuss their queries regarding the careers they wish to opt for. There was a healthy discussion between the students and Mr. Gera who took up thequeries of the students very effectively and in a very encouraging way. The students took a keen interest in the examples given by Mr. Gera and enthusiastically answered his questions. The session was a guide for the students to opt for a career they would want to pursue in their future.Overall, it was a good experience for the students.

On the occasion of Heritage Day Celebrations, INTACH organised a Teacher Training Workshop on Delhi's Heritage on 24 April 2018 which was attended by Ms. Anu Anand. It was an informative session as eminent resource persons like Prof. AGK Menon, Dr. Narayani Gupta and Dr. V. K. Swarnkar discussed about issues related to Delhi's heritage and archaeological excavations carried out in Delhi by Archaeological Survey of India.

In order to help our students, broaden their horizon as they get ready to take flight in the real world where opportunities and challenges await them, our school organized a seminar hosted by Canada University Application Centre. Mr. Daniel Zaretsky, Director, CUAC told the students of Classes XI and XII about a plethora of courses and institutes wherein our students can pursue and realize their dreams. Students were told about three Universities of Canada.The interactive session definitely added to our students' knowledge as the resource person deftly handled their queries and doubts.
English Workshop - (24 March 2018)

Ms. Charu Kohli and Ms. Vani attended the workshop organised by Ratna Sagar to impart language instruction to learners of ESL on 24 March 2018. The need of today's learners are different from those of learners which grew up in the previous decade. The workshop brainstormed relevant issues in the teaching and learning of ESL with English experts. The discussion focussed on challenges faced by teachers and learners. The exchange of ideas proved to be very beneficial as the teachers from various schools put forward their opinion and recommendation to enrich the books of Ratna Sagar. These discussions were done in the presence of the eminent authors namely Ms. Neena Sehgal, Ms. Uma Raman and Ms. Vineeta Khanna.

Teachers who love teaching, teach children to love learning. As a part of the In Service Teacher training program on 12th January 2018, our school in collaboration with S. Chand Publishing - empowering minds organised a workshop for the teachers of class seedling to Class V. The speaker of the workshop Mrs. Renu Anand, is an experienced material developer and teacher trainer. As a resource person with CBSE, she has been developing knowledge material, along with conducting workshop to train TGTs and PGTs for english language. The workshop aimed at focusing on English - a second language for children in clasaroom setting. The speaker shared with us the concept of reading, its essential components and types of reading skills. Practical exercises and stratigies were discussed. Role play activity escelated the enthusiasm and depicted a fun way of learning. The workshop ended on a beautiful note with 'what we learn with pleasure we never forget'.

As a part of the In Service Teacher Training Program on 11 January, our school in collaboration with the Pearson Group, organised a workshop for the teachers from class Seedling-V. The speaker of the workshop, Mrs. Neelam Sanwalka, an eminent English trainer, has been conducting workshops for teachers all over the country.

The workshop aimed at recapitulation of phonetic drilling, the methods of right pronunciation, use of intonation and enhancing skills to become a part of the classroom setting. The session began with a very interesting ice breaking activity, which helped us in forming a rapport and escalated the budding enthusiasm. The speaker shared many practical exercises such as Bingo, Word Wall, Spell Journal etc. that can be a part of the teacher pedagogy, while addressing a mix batch of student with differing abilities.

Ms. Anjali Singh an eminent and vastly experienced speaker from the THE RATNA SAGAR group, well known publication of our country was invited to take up the topic of CLASS ROOM MANAGEMENT. She took us on a extremely informative and fun filled journey enabling us to better understand our students and the way they feel about the class, their teachers and the entire learning process as a whole.
