Sexual offences are violation of human rights. These are condemnable, reprehensive and repugnant to what we stand for human dignity and rights of individuals. These are brutal acts of pervasion, perpetuated with feelings of hatred and at times intended to hurt. Child sexual abuse is a worse act that can result in both short term and long term harm to the child, including psychopathology in later life. A law which deals with perpetrators of sexual offences against children was mooted after taking a holistic view of the issues related to child sexual offences, through elaborate rounds of consultations with stakeholders and experts. Subsequently, after wide-ranging consultations among various stakeholders, the POCSO Rules 2012 were notified on 14th November, 2012 by the Ministry of Women and Child Development for effective implementation of the statue.

School Teachers play a key role in effective implementation of POCSO Act. They take into account the various aspects like coordinating, investigating, prosecuting the case as state etc. and are required to take steps for immediate protection to the victim. It is imperative for the officials to develop an in-depth understanding of implementation framework of POCSO Act to implement it effectively.
