English and Hindi Poetry Recitation Competition for Class I - (1 December 2015)
English and Hindi Poetry Recitation Competition for Class I was held on 1 December 2015. It was a pleasure to watch the little ones confidently recite their poems on topics like Childhood, Humour, Animals, etc. They enthralled the judges and the audience alike by their expressions and perfect voice modulation Principal Mrs. Rama Sethi, Vice Principal Mrs. Alka Kher and Educational Supervisor (Jr.) Ms. Jyotsna Vishwakarma encouraged the students and presented trophies to the following winners.

Model United Nations also known as Model UN, Mock UN or MUN, is an educational simulation or academic competition in which students can learn about diplomacy, international relations and the United Nations MUN involves and teaches researching public speaking, debating and writing skills, in addition to critical thinking teamwork and leadership abilities.

Participants in MUN conferences known as delegates are placed in committees and assigned countries or occasionally other organisations or political figures, where they represent members of that body. Under the topic human Right Violation among Asian countries a detailed debate and discussion was held on 9.11.2015. The student delegation also passed a resolution to curve human right violation amongst the Asian countries.

Inter - House G. K. Quiz for classes III to V was held on 5th November 2015. The Quiz Comprised of multiple choice questions from various topics on Science, Social Studies, authors and books, world and countries etc. It was a multimedia round with teams of 3 members each from classes III, IV and V. Patel House bagged the first position followed by Gandhi House.

Character Dramatisation Competition for Class II was held on 13 October 2015. The topic of the competition was children’s classics. Children came dressed as famous characters from literature classics and showcased their acting prowess. They took everyone on a magical trip to the fairy lands with their skilled performances.

The students performed to the best of their capability and were appreciated by the judges.

Solo Singing Competition for classes II and III was organized in which students participated with great zeal.

All the participants gave an over - whelming response and sung various rock and western music numbers. The songs varied from the old classics like beautiful Sunday, Bachelor Boy, theme for a dream etc. to the popular sha la la la from Vengaboyz.

The prize winners were as :

Class II : Driti Gupta and Pranvi Chhiber bagged the special prize, I prize was given to Parth Katoch, II prize was won by Suhani Singh, III prize was bagged by Srijan Saini.

Class III : Lavanya Kapoor and Jiya Maini bagged the special prize, I prize was won by Bhavya Kumar, II prize was given to Disha followed by the III prize which was received by Kavyani.

In all this programme nurtured the singing talent in students.

To memorize a great poem, is to make a friend for life.

Embracing the above quotation, the talented St. Markians of class VI-VIII participated in the English Poetry Recitation Competition on 31 August 2015.

The enthusiastic students came up with vivid and stirring poems from all genres; and exhibited enthusiasm, zeal and zest. It was an overwhelming experience for the children who showcased efforts in portraying the thematic elements of their poems. The students of class VI-VII presented the beautiful themes like odes, human emotions, humour, inspirational, whereas, the students of class VIII recited the renowned poems of the great poets like William Shakespeare, Yeats, William Blake and many more.

The event turned out to be a learning experience with the presence of Ms. Rama Sethi, Ms. Alka Kher, Ms. Inderpreet Ahluwalia and the esteemed judges who guided the students regarding the improvement that they can showcase in the future.

Carl Sandburg, a major figure in contemporary literature, enlightens us by saying, “Poetry is an echo asking a shadow to dance”. He has truly ignited the genre of poetry with his quotation.

Following his footsteps were the talented participants who not only recited with the required intonation, fluency and rhythm but also brought a hue of beauty to the event and brightened the famous saying, ‘Beauty is the realm of poetry.’

English Poetry Recitation for class IV was held on 22 July 2015. The different themes were friendship, beauty of nature, humour in life science fiction and environment awareness. The competition helped the students to appreciate poetry and develop confidence in public speaking.

Students of class V participated in English and Hindi Poetry recitation competition and enjoyed the beauty of expression, thoughts, feeling, rhyme, rhythm and music of words. Taking all these facts into consideration the students got an opportunity to exhibit their talent and confidence.

They chose a variety of topics for their recitation like environmental awareness, lyrical ballad, social issues, world peace etc. and participated with lot of zeal and enthusiasm.

Creative Writing Competition - (13 July 2015)
Our school organized "Creative Writing Competition" on 13 July 2015 for Classes VI - XII. The topics were : 'The thing that scares me the most of think about something you are not allowed to do but wish you could'. The purpose of the competition was to develop creativity in the students and to stimulate their ability to think innovatively.

To commemorate the 451st Birth Anniversary and honour the world's all time great playwright and poet William Shakespeare, our school organized a Quiz, base on his life and works on 23 April 2015 and Re-telling of Shakespeare's plays on 24 April 2015. The students of IX - X standard displayed immense knowledge about the Bard of Aveon while answering the Quiz. The students of XII standard put forth remarkable presentations such as the Twelfth Night, Macbeth, Othello and others. The clarity of presentation, complete involvement and range of their understanding was the hallmark of the event.

The first piece of music a child hears is a lullaby from his mother and from then, music becomes an integral part of his being. Students of classes IV participated in the “Solo Singing Competition” and presented some melodious numbers by famous singers and popstars. The budding singers got an opportunity to showcase their talent. Their wonderful performance were appreciated by everyone.

The Solo Singing Competition for classes I and II was held on 26 February 2015. The ability to sing well is a divine gift bestowed upon a lucky few, and the competition saw 24 such extremely talented and gifted young singers. The participants were high on confidence and enthusiasm, and it was a tough competition. Our esteemed and knowledgeable judges. Mr. Christopher Thomas and Ms. Archana Tyagi had a challenging time while deciding the following winners :

Whiz Kids Competition - (20 February 2015)
WHIZ KIDS COMPETITION was organized in the school for Classes III – V on 20 February 2015. Two students per section were selected. The topics for the competition were given on the spot. Class 3 used Microsoft PAINT program and the topics were – Landscape, Holi scene & My school. Class 4 & 5 used Microsoft POWER POINT program. The topics given to Class 4 were – My City, My Country & My School and for Class 5 were – Festivals of India, Costumes of India & Tourist Places of India. Students participated with great enthusiasm and enjoyed creating paintings and PowerPoint presentations.

General Knowledge Quizzes provide an impetus to sharpen the mind of children so that they can develop a personality of their own and can be more creative, aware and confident. Our school conducted Inter House General Knowledge Quiz for Classes I and II on 6 February 2015 and for Classes III, IV & V on 19 February 2015. The participants had to go through two different rounds – Preliminary and Final Round. On the basis of Preliminary round, two teams from each house were selected for the Final Round. There were 15 interesting and brain storming rounds, testing student’s scientific, analytical, quantitative and reasoning skills for Classes I and II. Patel House, comprising of Parth Katoch IB, Paanvi Gupta IC, Pari Kataria IIE and Pulkit Sakhija IIF, won the 1st Prize. The Final Round for Classes III, IV and V consisted of 3 rounds. Each round tested the quizzers on different topics like, inventions, mental math, technology, famous personalities, popular quotations, music maestros etc. Patel house participants (Rajnandini – III E, Nischay –IV G, Vansh – V B),were declared the winners in this category. The second position was secured by Gandhi House participants – Mridul- IIIF, Abhinav IV C, Lakshit V C. Several questions were also passed on to the audience to keep their interest alive. The quiz turned out to be a fun and a learning experience for all the students.
G. K. Quiz - (4 to 6 February 2015)
To enchance students intellectual and analytical faculties a Quiz Competition for classes I & II was held on 6th Februray 2015. The students were selected from each house on the basis of the Preliminary round which took place on 4th Februray 2015. Finally four teams from each house were selected, namely Supremes (Shastri House), Victors (Nehru House), Champions (Patel Houise) and Leaders (Gandhi House).

The Quiz competition comprised of 15 interesting & storming rounds, focusing on students scientific, analytical, calculative and reasoning skills. The event became very exciting & informative with ‘Champions’ emerging as winners. The winning team comprised of Parth Katoch & Paavni Gupta from class I and Pari & Pulkit from class II respectively.
On the Spot Painting Competition - (February 2015)
To make the students aware about the conservation of energy ‘Bureau of Energy Efficiency’ (Govt. of India) conducted an “On the Spot Painting Competition" for the students. The competition was held at two levels : Category A comprised of the students from IV, V & VI category B consisted of the students from VII to IX. Students of our school participated enthusiastically and won merit certificates.

As they say, given a chance to exhibit his / her acting abilities, every child is a star. When these young talents present their masterpieces of entertainment before us, we admire and praise the liveliness, stage presence, powerful dialogues and expressions. Students of Class V gave their best at the English Play Competition organized on 6 December 2014. Artists got under the skin of the characters and performed to their utmost perfection. The Best Play Trophy was bagged by Class V-C for the play ‘The Canterville Ghost’. The other plays staged were ‘Jane Eyre’, ‘Fearless John’, ‘Oliver Twist’, ‘Julius Caesar’ and ‘Adventures of Tom Sawyer’. On the whole, it was a good platform for the students of Class V to showcase their dramatic and acting skills.

In order to encourage students to read and love poetry, English Poetry Recitation Competition for Class IV was held on 25 November 2014 in the school premises. Students enthusiastically recited poems on various topics like humour in life, environmental awareness, nature, festivals, peace and brotherhood. The judges appreciated the content of the poem, diction and lauded the students efforts.

Poetry Recitation Competition - (September & November 2014)
The spontaneous overflow of subconscious feelings is ‘Poetry’. Poetry is the essence of literary work. Memorizing and reciting poetry inspires and builds confidence in the students. It teaches to string words rhythmically so as to capture emotions and ideas in lyrical phrases. In order to encourage students to read and love poetry, Poetry Recitation Competition is annual feature in our school. This quarter, English and Hindi Poetry Recitation Competition was held for Classes I, II & IV in the school premises, respectively on 26 Sept, 12 Sept and 25 Nov. 2014.

Drama is an illustrative and enjoyable way of learning and teaching. It helps the students in becoming extrovert, confident and expressive. The young and budding artists of Class III, Classes VI and VII showcased their talent in acting at the English Play Competition. For Class III, which was held on 1 November, the plays chosen were from the works of famous writer Padma Shree Ruskin Bond and Scottish born famous writer Saki. The Best Play trophy was bagged by Class III B for the play ‘The Boy who broke the Bank: Artists got under the skin of the characters and emulated it to perfection. The other plays performed were: The Blue Umbrella, The eyes have it, The Open Window, The tiger in the house and The thief. For Classes VI and VII, which was held on 15 November, various plays of different genre like, ‘Swami and his Friends’, ‘Story of My Life’ were showcased by budding actors. On the whole, it was a good platform for the students to learn all the nuances of acting.

French Poetry Recitation Competition held on 30 October 2014.

To enrich the students imaginative and Linquistic skills and to enhance their flair of French linquia - French Poetry Recitation for Class VI students was organized by the French Departement of our school. Dressed up in colourful costumes they spoke on variety of topics ranging from nature, trees, flowers to the more complex ones like unity in diversity.

Principal Ms. Rama Sethi & Educational Supervisor Ms. Anupam Ganesh, praised the students for their efforts. Judges on this occasion Mr. Alex & Ms. Nupur Sharma applauded the students for their performance & confidence. Overall it was a great learning experience for both students & teachers.

Music is the universal language. A good melody is something that everyone can enjoy & understand. In children music can boost brain power, builds their confidence, teaches them discipline & is a great form of expression. With this aim in mind Solo Singing Competition was organized for classes III & IV. Students presented melodious numbers from different genre and rendered songs of famous singers & rock bands like the Beatles, ABBA, John Denver, Cliff Richards etc. The audience enjoyed the foot tapping music and clapped along to cheer up the participants.

Poetry is the essence of literature. It is essentially a rhythmical speech that gives delight through rhythm, harmony and melody. It instills a sense of aesthetic beauty into young minds.

English Poetry Recitation Competition was held for students of class V on 21 July 2014. Students enjoyed reciting poems on a variety of topics like Humour, Patriotism, Social Issues, Environmental Awareness, Lyrical Ballads etc.

Hindi Play Competition held on - (12 July 2014)
With the aim to nurture acting talents in the students’ and also to make them confident - Hindi Play Competition for Classes VII & IX was held on 12 July 2014. The plays had socio-centric theme based on the stark dualities present in the Indian society such as caste system, labour problems etc. Students showcased their hidden talent, potential and won the hearts of the audience.

In order to boost the confidence of children and also help them in developing their handwriting skills, our school organized a Handwriting Competition for the students of Classes I to V. Best five entries were chosen from every class, judged on the basis of legibility, neatness, presentation, style, punctuation, word formation, spelling etc.

A tremendous effort was shown by the participants to showcase their handwriting skills.

Finally a well grafted power point presentation on the life of this legend was shown to the students. The students appreciated the movie “Tempest” which was shown in all the classes.

WHIZ KIDS Competition on power point presentation was organized in our school for Classes IV and V. The students unleashed their creative potential and artistic talent in designing presentations using animations, word art and transition effects.

Sankalp and Rajanshu Singh of V-E, Dolly Jain and Amanpreet Kaur of IV-D won the First Prize. Priyanshi Chawla and Mehak Talwar of V-A, Ekansh Verma, Nitin Malik of IV-D won the Second Prize respectively.

Dance as an art form is an expression of joy. It transcends the boundaries of language, culture and region to express and spread the universal feeling of love and harmony”. ‘Rhapsody’, a dance festival showcasing folk dance forms from across the world was organized by St. Mark’s Sr. Sec. Public School, Janak Puri on 8 November 2013. Students of classes III, IV and V dressed in colourful and attractive traditional costumes of various countries gave scintillating performances which enthralled the audience. As the programme unfolded with one spectacular performance after another, the audience got an opportunity to travel through countries like Greece, Phillipines, Columbia, Vietnam, Thailand, Chile, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Cuba, Russia, China and even into the deep interiors of Africa and Arabia and get a glimpse of their diverse culture and music. It proved to be an equally wonderful opportunity for the children to learn and present the different dancing styles.

The event was graced by the school Director, Ms. Anjali Aggarwal, Principal Ms. Rama Sethi, Ms. Sheena Kalenga - Principal St. Mark’s Sr. Sec. Girls’ School, and many other distinguished guests.

The only underlying reason is preference of Junk Food with no physical activity. As one of the ISA Activity, Banner Making Competition was organized on September 25, 2013 on topics : ‘Walk for Obesity’ & ‘Say No to Junk Food’ so as to create awareness among students as well as public regarding good food, good health.

The students enacted various performances ranging from dark and gloomy plays like, ‘the Tragical History of Dr. Faustus’, to humorous ones like ‘Villa For Sale’. Devotional plays like ‘Mirabai’ and women empowerment ‘Medea’ were brilliantly performed. The young budding artists made the audience speechless with their enthusiastic performances. Principal Ms. Rama Sethi, Vice Principal Ms. Alka Kher and Educational Supervisor Ms. Anupam Ganesh appreciated and applauded the efforts put in by the students. Prizes were awarded to the best performers.

Aastha of VI-E and Mahima of VIII-C bagged the Best Actors Award for their commendable performances.

Disaster Management Project was taken up by the Primary wing of SMS, Janakpuri, Delhi. Under this project student groups of classes I and II gathered important telephone numbers of various organization like fire department, police, home guards, red cross and prepared a telephone directory of different countries and also did a comparative study.

Classes III and IV was involved in making of a first aid box.

Class V was shown a Power Point Presentation of Disaster Management on the basis of this study a “Disaster Management Kit” was prepared.

To mark the National Year of Mathematics’, students of V F presented a Class Assembly on the theme ‘Famous Mathematicians who graced Mother India.

To make the introduction lively, participants were dressed like Srinivasa Ramanujan, Aryabhatta, Bhaskaracharya, Shakuntala Devi – our heroes in mathematical field and recounted respective anecdotes.

On the occasion of ‘World Heritage Day’ various activities were organized for the primary wing on 18th April 2012 with lots of positive spirit and enthusiasm.

Class I : Colouring the sketch of Lal Quila.
Class II : To make a collage of monuments and Heritage rites of India.
Class III : To make a ‘picture postcard’ of any of the 28 ‘World Heritage Sites’ of India.
Class IV : On a political map of India, locate any 5 ‘World Heritage Sites.
Class V : To make a pamphlet of the ‘places of Tourist Attractions’ of Delhi.

Inter House G.K. Quiz for classes III, IV & V was held on 3 February 2012. There was a tough competition between team Newton from Gandhi House and Einstein from Patel House and finally Debotrinya Sur, Aayushi Jain and Arushi Nagarkoti from Newton team of Gandhi House emerged as winners. The multimedia presentation provided a good learning experience for the participants as well as for the audience.

The students presented various comedies and tragedies of Shakespearean era. All the budding artists tried to touch the pinnacles of glory and success, but the play ‘as you like it’ was judged the best and ‘the merchant of Venice’ held the second position.

English Play Enactment Competition
An English Play Enactment Competition was held for classes III, IV and V. The budding actors and actresses enthralled the audience with their acting talent. Dressed up as their characters, they displayed a unique confidence which was very inspiring for all the others who watched them.

Class III : ‘folk tales’ from different parts of the world.
Class IV : ‘Family plays’.
Class V : ‘Excerpts from famous English Classics’.

National students Science Seminar 2009 - (22 July 2009)
A Science Seminar was organized by the Science Centre at Govt. Boys Senior Secondary School, Janakpuri, C-Block on 22nd July 2009 at the Zonal level. The topic was “CHANDRAYAAN : PROMISES AND CONCERNS”. Around 36 schools were invited for the seminar. Mayank Arora of class IX A, also participated in the seminar. He explained the topic with the help of slide projector. His performance was praised by everyone. It was a wonderful experience.
ROBOTICS - Workshop - (17 April 2009)
Our students participated in the Inter – School Robotics Challenge – 2009, on 17th April, 2009 at Sri Ram School. The participants made a functional wired robot which could pick up boxes and throw them in a basket. Nitesh Chopra VII E, Konark Baggal VII E, Neeti Chopra X B, Aanchan Arora X-B built the robot for which they received the second prize amongst 11 schools those who participated.
