Our little ones of Class KG celebrated 'Wonderful Winter Week' to express immense sense of magic and wonder that this season has to offer. They participated in craft activities using pistachio shells, recited rhymes, assembled a snowman and dressed up their teddy bears in winter clothes. They bought dishes that are cooked during this chilly season and enjoyed a hearty meal with their friends. |

Grammar is the structural foundation of our ability to express ourselves. The more we are aware of how it works, the more we can monitor the meaning and effectiveness of the way we and others use language.
An English Grammar Quiz was conducted for the students of Class V, wherein they were asked some interesting riddles and questions related to various grammar topics. The students who qualified the preliminary round were given an opportunity to participate in the second round, and thus compete with students from other houses. The activity helped them foster precision and enhanced their vocabulary.

Following the theme 'My Country My Pride', students beautifully showcased the traditional outfits of different States, and confidently spoke about their contributions in making India a diverse nation. Their confidence, creative ideas and presentation enchanted the audience, earning them a huge round of applause. Clothing is an expression, image and personality of a culture, because from clothing can be reflected, the norms and cultural values of a nation. It is influenced by habits and customs that exist in the society. With the objective of learning about the history, culture and traditions of different countries across the globe, 'Every Dress Tells a Tale' competition was organized for the enthusiastic students of Class ll.
Following the theme 'Around the World', students beautifully showcased the traditional outfits of different countries, and confidently spoke about their contributions to the world. Their eloquence, creativity and imagination impressed the judges and the audience alike.

English Solo Singing and Instrumental Music Competition was organized on 1 November, 2022. The competition received an enthusiastic participation from very talented vocalists and musicians from Classes VI - VIII.
The participants sang songs of different genres like Rock, Pop and R&B with a lot of passion and confidence. The program started with the beautiful song ‘My heart will go on’, after which, various melodious songs like ‘Sweet child of mine’, ‘Left and Right’, ‘Radioactive’, ‘Drag me Down’ were performed by the students. The melodious songs pulled the heartstrings of the audience.
Equally enthusiastic were our participants of Instrumental Music Competition. Self-composed music and English songs were played on a variety of instruments like guitar, drums and keyboard by these young musicians.
The event was judged by Ms. Archana Tyagi and Ms. Muskan Singh who thereafter announced the winners and appreciated the efforts of all the participants for their captivating performances.

An Inter-Section English Poetry Recitation Competition was organized for Classes VI to VIII. The students enthusiastically participated in the competition and exhibited their talent and confidence. They recited lyrical poetry, monologues, ballads, odes, etc. with great zeal and fondness.
The participants left no stone unturned to win the competition. Students were judged on the parameters like confidence, voice modulation, memorization and overall presentation.

The Commerce and Economics Fest of St. Mark's Senior Secondary School, Janakpuri, ECOCOMM, was back with its second edition with more energy and enthusiasm. The three days fiesta was declared open by our Principal Ms. Inderpreet Kaur Ahluwalia. The first event entitled 'The Big Bull- Be a Stock Market Handler', a stock market simulation game to test the analytical, mathematical and logical skills in which the teams were required to trade and maximise profits.
Six teams out of sixteen teams with the highest portfolio value made up to the final round that was judged by Mr. Pradeep Jain, a Senior Insurance Advisor and a Fund Manager, Ms. Vrishti, currently pursuing her CA and an active investor in stock and gold market.
The teams were judged on the basis of their content, accuracy and presentation.
Harshit Gupta and Lakshita (XII E) were the Winners i.e. THE BIG BULL.
The Second Day began with the much awaited quiz competition ‘Avid Quizzers’. It included a variety of questions from different arenas like Business Awareness, Economics, Sustainable Development Goals and National Education Policy 2020.

Participants made beautiful and creative presentations on the topics which were given to them on the spot. It was not only a great learning experience for all participants but they also got an opportunity to showcase their talent.

Following the spirit of Republic Day, a Final Round of GK Quiz was organised for Classes VI-VIII on 29 January 2022. The shortlisted students from the Preliminary Round were put in 10 teams, consisting of 3 members. The participants had to go through various rounds of the quiz comprising Literary, Indian Mathematicians and their discoveries, Scientific Temperament, Social Studies, Sports and General Awareness.

A one of its kind Online Inter Class English Debate Competition was organized for Classes XI & XII students, which stressed on the essence of debating while appreciating contradictory viewpoints. The students of Class XI spoke eloquently on the topic CRYPTO CURRENCY IS NOT A RELIABLE FORM OF INVESTMENT and Class XII students voiced their opinions on NEW IT RULES ARE A THREAT TO PRIVACY. The participants exhibited great oratory skills. Armed with proofs and data, they made their points more emphatic with their passionate arguments and body language.
The event ended on a high note, with Principal Ms. Inderpreet Kaur Ahluwalia appreciating the students’ awareness of the topics and extolled the importance of such events. She proclaimed this debate to be a symbol of new ideas, which will evolve, and will benefit students in the years to come.
The Competition was a fascinating experience for the judges, speakers as well as the audience to exchange opinions, ideas and perspectives.

Poetry is literature based on interplay of words and rhythm. Words are strung together to form sounds, images and ideas that might be too complex or abstract to describe directly. Indeed, even a small piece of poetry can be extremely inspiring.
On the 29th June 2021, Inter-Section English Poetry Recitation Competition was virtually organised, for Class V students. The event went off very well and was much appreciated by the Principal, Ms. Inderpreet Kaur Ahluwalia and the Judges, Ms. Ruchi Bisht and Ms.Tanvi Handa.

Making Bharat a Shreshtha Bharat needs an all-around effort, especially towards making school students aware of the diverse cultures and different regions of our beloved nation. Taking a step in this direction, our students of Classes VI to VIII made collages depicting Rituals, Costumes, Cuisines, and Culture of the state of Sikkim.
The activity was conducted under ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ Programme, wherein the students displayed their creativity by making colourful and interesting collages showing the different colours of Sikkim.
The idea behind the activity was to make the students aware of the various aspects of Sikkim such as its colorful culture, amazing art and crafts, diverse rituals and delicious cuisines. |

Solo Singing and Instrumental Music Competition was organised for Classes VI- VIII. Students showcased many melodious numbers from different genres. The competition was held in three categories - Hindi Vocals, English Vocals and Instrumental Music. The participants were judged on the basis of presentation, coordination with pitch and coordination with rhythm.
The occasion was graced by the esteemed presence of our Principal Mrs. Alka Kher and Vice Principal Mrs. Inderpreet Kaur Ahluwalia. The judges were totally in awe listening to some amazing performances.
Students sang and played the musical instruments with expertise and displayed talent to the best of their skills. The winners were highly appreciated by the jury. |

Sanskrit is rich; rich in vocabulary, rich in literature, rich in thoughts and ideas, rich in meanings and values.
Sanskrit is the oldest and the most continually used language in the world certainly since the second millennium BC...
Having stated these facts, it is only impeccable that this language is given such high importance in our education system. Hence, Sanskrit Poetry Recitation Competition was organized for Classes VI to VIII.
The students enthusiastically participated in the competition as they got an opportunity to exhibit their talent and confidence. The participants were judged on the parameters - theme, voice modulation, pronunciation and expressions. The occasion was graced by the Vice Principal Mrs. Inderpreet Kaur Ahluwalia and Educational Supervisor (Primary) Mrs. Jyotsna Vishwakarma. The event was judged by Mrs. Adarsh Ahuja (Sr. Retired Teacher, DPS Mathura Road) and Mr. Narayan Dutt Mishra (Guest teacher, JNU).
The participants put up a great show of their talents and competed excellently in Sanskrit Poetry Recitation Competition. The position holders were applauded and were given prizes by the Jury. |

Each participant put forward their perspective with confidence and conviction. They vied with each other to convince the house with their forceful arguments. The excitement was truly palpable.

Students of Classes VI to VIII participated in Inter House General Knowledge Quiz Competition on February 1, 2019. Eight teams were selected for the Final round on the basis of the preliminary round. The teams had a tough time getting through different rounds and levels of quizzing.
Team Gladiator, comprised of Viraj Mittal VI-B, Aditya Rai VII-A and Ayush Sharma VIII-B, won the Quiz.

Class I children took part in the Inter-Class Solo Singing Competition. The little vocalists gave a terrific performance, singing in melodious voices, in tune to the beautiful numbers. Principal, Mrs. Alka Kher, appreciated the confidence of the participants who enthralled the audience with their beautiful rendition.

Inter-Class Hindi Poetry Recitation Competition for students of Class II was held on 30th January 2019. The participants recited selected poems on the topics such as mother, childhood and humour. They performed wonderfully and were appreciated by everyone.

They answered questions from a wide range of topics such as sports, books & authors, vocabulary, current affairs and around the world. As a part of Children's Day Celebration, a Solo Singing and Instrumental Music Competition was organised for middle school children. The students of classes VI, VII and VIII showcased their talent in the competition. They entralled everyone with their rendition of melodious Hindi and English songs as well as by their competance in playing instruments.
In English songs Diya Chawla won the First prize, Disha Goyal won the Second prize, Gunjan Sharma won the Third prize and Dishti Kaushik won the special prize.
In Hindi songs, Shalini won the First prize, Gauransh got the Second prize, H. Madhavan won the Third prize and Swastika Maity got the Special prize.

Just a Minute Competition for Class V was held in the school premises. The preliminary round was conducted on 31 October 2018 and the final round was held on 14 November 2018. The participants were allotted various topics and were given half a minute to ponder over their ideas and thoughts on the topic. All the participants spoke fluently and lucidly for precisely one minute.

Shakespeare's Day was celebrated on 23rd April 2018. A quiz on the life and work of Shakespeare was conducted for the senior classes.
The Quiz was won by the Hamlet team comprising of Hardik Sharma XII-C, Parth Joshi XII-C and Roshni Dhawan XI-C.
The senior students also participated in a recitation of his ageless immortal speeches. This competition won huge applauds. The top three positions were taken by Vaishali XII-B, Harmandeep Singh XI-D and Saloni Varma XII-B respectively.

‘Inter House G.K. Quiz Competition’ for the students of Classes I to III, was held on 15 December 2017 for Classes VI-VIII was held on 9 February 2018 in our School. There were 8 teams, Newton, Ramanujan, Raman, Kalam, Curie, Einstien, Edison and Swaminathan, 2 teams from each of the four houses comprising of 3 students each. The Classes I to III had 13 rounds. Each round had many questions on the topics - human body, science and technology, computers, famous personalities etc. The students participated enthusiastically.
The winning team was team “Newton”, comprising of Krishti I-D, Diksha II-C and Arnav III-F. Team ‘Edison’, comprising of Arman Khan I-D, Vaibhav Singh II-F and Joyesh III-C was the first runners up. The quiz contest for Classes VI-VIII had six rounds, which included an array of questions from different disciplines, including General Knowledge, Literature, General Science, identifying famous personalities and Mathematics. All the quizzers performed to their best and attempted to outsmart their rivals. Team ‘Ramanujan, comprising of Lakshit VIII-F; Priyansh VI-D and Vanshika VII-F from Gandhi House answered the questions with alacrity and won the competition. Team Euclid, comprising of Dishti VI-D; Tanush VII-B and Sarthak VIII-D, from Nehru House bagged the second position.
The winning teams were given trophies by Principal Ms. Alka Kher. Our Head Mistress Ms. Inderpreet Kaur Ahluwalia congratulated the winners and spoke words of encouragement for all the participants. |

The Whiz Kids Competition was organized in the school for Classes III - V on 23 January 2018 to exhibit their skills in MS Paint, MS Word and MS Power-Point, respectively. Two students per section were selected for the main round, from the five students who competed in the preliminary round. The topics were given on the spot to the students. Students participated with great enthusiasm and enjoyed making paintings, documents and presentations.

Our toddlers of Class I and II excitedly recited English and Hindi poetry during the Recitation Competition held for them on 27 December 2017. For English recitation students recited Poem on the topics – ‘Childhood’, ‘My school’ and ‘My Family’. For Hindi recitation students recited Poem on the topics – Seasons, Toys and Festivals. Each one displayed great confidence and good recitation skill. The students were judged on the following parameters-pronunciation, voice modulation, expressions, content and memory.

Reciting from books is not the only medium of learning but also a fun-filled activity and competitions complement the learning process. Keeping this in mind, Sanskrit Poetry Recitation Competition was organized in the School for the students of Classes VI-VIII on 8 November. Sixty students participated in the competition. They recited different poems on various themes like patriotism, shlokas from the Bhagwad Geeta and “Stuti’s” with a lot of confidence. It was a very enriching experience for the participants and audience.

An Inter-House G.K. Quiz Competition was conducted on 8 September 2017 in the school. Eight different teams consisting of two members, one each from Class IX and X, were finalized from the highest scorers in the Preliminary round were selected to represent the four houses viz., Gandhi, Nehru, Patel and Shastri, in the final round. The quizzing witnessed the teams spiritedly competing with each other, during the ten stages of multimedia rounds on topics drawn from sports, countries, facts, literary characters, authors & many more. The competition was very informative and knowledge enriching, both for the participants along with audience. The Wining team was from Gandhi House consisting of Vishika and Bhavya Minocha and the runner up team was from Patel House, consisting of Aditya Tanwar and Garv Jain. |

They were dressed as prince, princess, witches, knights, goblins etc. and enacted characters from famous fairy tales like Rapunzel, Sleeping Beauty, The Frog Prince, Jack and the Beanstalk, Hansel and Gretel, Rumpelstiltskin, The Ugly Duckling etc. The students enthusiastically portrayed their theatrical talent and were applauded.

Sanskriti Utsav - Inter School Competition, was organized on 24 April by St. Mark’s Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh to celebrate World Heritage Day and to sensitize the students about conserving our heritage. The topic for Class VI was – “History comes Alive”. It was Character Dramatization of various stalwarts of Indian History, who have contributed in a major way during different realms of Indian history, such as Chanakya, Chandragupta, Amarpali, Lakshmi Sehgal etc. Overall the students learnt about various distinguished figures of Indian History. Aarav Dua VI-D & Mouli Sharma, VI-B bagged 2nd Prize and Sahaj Garg VI-F and Yuvraj Singh, VI B secured special prize.
Students of Class VII gave a talk on ‘World Heritage Sites’. Akshita VII-G and Saina Bajaj VII-F bagged first prize, and Vriti VII-E received special prize.
The event for Class VIII was Power Point presentation on Indian musical instruments and classical dance forms Sneha Gautam and Shreya Arora of VIII-E bagged II Prize.

Poetry is the essence of literature. It is the language of imagination and passion. Reciting poetry is an enjoyment for children. They enjoy the beauty of expression, thought, rhyme, rhythm and music of words. These factors were on display as our students of Classes IV to VIII got the opportunity to exhibit their talent and confidence.
The participants recited classic poems with expression, modulation and exhibited their confidence and talent. The students were assessed on the basis of four parameters i.e. voice modulation, pronunciation, memory and expressions.

"To have another language is to possess a second soul".
The importance of drama and theatre in the sphere of education cannot be ignored. It encourages participation, boosts confidence of students and trigger's "out of the box" thinking. Keeping all this in mind "language platter" was organised for classes l to XI.
The junior wing students dressed up as natives of different countries and greeted each other in the respective languages. The students also enacted fairy tales, classics and mythologies from different countries, such as 'The bishops candlesticks'.™
The middle wing students made a short conversation using greetings and salutations of different languages and made cards/post cards. The students also created a "Band Dessine'e' choosing cartoon characters and enactment was done by the students along with the power point presentations on writers of Victorian Era which added to the decorum of the show.
Senior students made beautiful mask of different writers of the world and presented book review of selected authors. They also studied local literature translated to English by having reading sessions and newspaper making.
These activities gave the students and insight into the world of authors and literature of the world and helped them in acquiring collaborative skills by working in teams, thus building confidence. It also provided students with an outlet for emotions, thoughts and dreams. The efforts of the students were applauded by one and all, and also appreciated by the Principal Ms. Alka Kher. Certificates and trophies were awarded to the winners to encourage them. |

Mathematics as an expression of the human mind reflects the active will, the contemplative reason, and the desire for aesthetic perfection. Its basic elements are logic and intuition, analysis and construction, generality and individuality. – Richard Courant Mathematics is inseparable part of our daily life. To develop practical knowledge and aptitude for Mathematics, a range of innovative and exciting activities were organised for the students of Classes I to XII at St. Mark’s Senior Secondary School, Janak Puri.
Students got to experience many mathematical based games and activities. They learnt new methods of applying mathematical ideas and skills in their daily life.
Our young learners from primary classes learnt about traditional mathematical games and puzzles, made flip calendars, in the process enlightening themselves about national and international days, and public holidays in various countries. To understand the concept of date and time effectively, students themselves made world clocks representing different time zones. To help appreciate the fundamentals associated with tools of measurement, students made static models. Besides, our students collected currencies of different countries and learnt about ‘Currency Conversion’.
‘Maths Quest’ – A display of contributions made by various mathematicians was showcased along with the best works of students. Presence of the Manager Mr. Rahul Aggarwal and Principal Ms. Alka Kher, encouraged the students.
Learners of secondary and senior secondary classes explored the connections between mathematical ideas and concept through dance, music and architecture.
Such hands-on experience in all the activities facilitated the students in better comprehension of the concepts so that the retention capacity is enhanced. The judge Mr. Satish Verma, Associate Professor, Khalsa College, Delhi University appreciated the efforts made by the students and was impressed by the mathematics based presentations. |

The ISA activity - ‘Canvas of Imagination’ was held on 27 October in our school. Students of Classes I to V presented fashion show, dressed up as famous painters from India and different parts of the world, like, UK, USA, Greece, Italy etc. Painters from 10 countries were selected for this activity. Our young models walked down the ramp holding the paintings of artists they were dressed up. This activity proved to be very fruitful and gave our students a chance to explore and know about various talented painters from around the world. |

The activity was aimed at instilling a sense of aesthetic beauty into young minds. Students recited beautiful poems on the topics Friendship. Humour in life, science fiction, world peace and Environmental Awareness. They also learnt the correct pronunciation of words, importance of voice modulation and right expressions through this activity. Their efforts were appreciated by Vice Principal Mrs. Alka Kher.

The Inter House G. K. Quiz Competition for Classes IV and V was conducted on 17 October. All four Houses participated with full enthusiasm, vigour and showcased their mental agility. The Final round was a multimedia round, wherein questions from various topics, like; world famous personalities, monuments, inventions, sports, entertainment were cracked by the quizzers. Gandhi House emerged as winners by securing 40 points, closely followed by Shastri House with 35 points.

It was a pleasure to watch the little ones confidently recite their poems on topics like Environment, Family, Childhood, Humour etc. They enthralled the judges by their expressions and voice modulation. ‘A neat and beautiful handwriting always draws attention’.
Keeping this goal in mind, an English Handwriting Competition was organized in our school on 25 April 2016 for Classes I - V. The primary objective of this competition was to encourage students to improve their calligraphy skills. The competition was organized in the respective classrooms. The response of the students was very encouraging, as they left no stone unturned to achieve perfection in their handwriting and win the competition. The closely contested competition presented a challenging task for the teachers to adjudge the winners. The best three entries from each section were awarded certificates of appreciation. |
“On the life and works of GREAT BARD OF AVON†- competition was organized for senior secondary students, as a tribute to William Shakespeare on 25 April 2016, in the form of a literary quiz. Four teams participated, namely, Macbeth, Hamlet, Merchant of Venice and Romeo and Juliet.
The participants’ knowledge was put to test by the quiz masters :-
Darpan Goyal [XII-E] and Medha Sharma [XI-D] on the various aspects of the life and works of the ‘Bard’. Into first few rounds, all the four teams competed shoulder to shoulder and an intense competition amongst four teams was on display. But in the sixth round , beating all competitors, TEAM HAMLET – Muskaan Tyagi [XII-E], Rajat Kumar Mishra [XII-C, Samdeesh Mahajan [XI-C], Isha Narayani [XI-D] won the first prize and TEAM MACBETH - Maneet Singh [XII-C], Nisha Sharma [XII-E], Mehar Lamba [XI-C], Divij Malik [XI-C] came in as close runner up. |
We are living in digital world, and our creativity has to migrate from contemporary medium and adapt to express through Computers. Whiz Kids Competition was organized in our school for Classes III to V, on 20 February and 1 March 2016 to test their proficiency in expressing digitally. Model United Nations also known as Model UN, Mock UN or MUN, is an educational simulation or academic competition in which students can learn about diplomacy, international relations and the United Nations MUN involves and teaches researching public speaking, debating and writing skills, in addition to critical thinking teamwork and leadership abilities.
Participants in MUN conferences known as delegates are placed in committees and assigned countries or occasionally other organisations or political figures, where they represent members of that body. Under the topic human Right Violation among Asian countries a detailed debate and discussion was held on 9.11.2015. The student delegation also passed a resolution to curve human right violation amongst the Asian countries. |

Children came dressed as famous characters from literature classics and showcased their acting prowess. They took everyone on a magical trip to the fairy lands with their skilled performances.

All the participants gave an over - whelming response and sung various rock and western music numbers. The songs varied from the old classics like beautiful Sunday, Bachelor Boy, theme for a dream etc. to the popular sha la la la from Vengaboyz.

‘To memorize a great poem, is to make a friend for life.’
Embracing the above quotation, the talented St. Markians of class VI-VIII participated in the English Poetry Recitation Competition on 31 August 2015.
The enthusiastic students came up with vivid and stirring poems from all genres; and exhibited enthusiasm, zeal and zest. It was an overwhelming experience for the children who showcased efforts in portraying the thematic elements of their poems. The students of class VI-VII presented the beautiful themes like odes, human emotions, humour, inspirational, whereas, the students of class VIII recited the renowned poems of the great poets like William Shakespeare, Yeats, William Blake and many more.
The event turned out to be a learning experience with the presence of Ms. Rama Sethi, Ms. Alka Kher, Ms. Inderpreet Ahluwalia and the esteemed judges who guided the students regarding the improvement that they can showcase in the future.
Carl Sandburg, a major figure in contemporary literature, enlightens us by saying, “Poetry is an echo asking a shadow to dance”. He has truly ignited the genre of poetry with his quotation.
Following his footsteps were the talented participants who not only recited with the required intonation, fluency and rhythm but also brought a hue of beauty to the event and brightened the famous saying, ‘Beauty is the realm of poetry.’ |

The topics were : 'The thing that scares me the most of think about something you are not allowed to do but wish you could'. To commemorate the 451st Birth Anniversary and honour the world's all time great playwright and poet William Shakespeare, our school organized a Quiz, base on his life and works on 23 April 2015 and Re-telling of Shakespeare's plays on 24 April 2015. The students of IX - X standard displayed immense knowledge about the Bard of Aveon while answering the Quiz. The students of XII standard put forth remarkable presentations such as the Twelfth Night, Macbeth, Othello and others. The clarity of presentation, complete involvement and range of their understanding was the hallmark of the event.

The first piece of music a child hears is a lullaby from his mother and from then, music becomes an integral part of his being. Students of classes IV participated in the “Solo Singing Competition” and presented some melodious numbers by famous singers and popstars. The budding singers got an opportunity to showcase their talent. Their wonderful performance were appreciated by everyone.

The ability to sing well is a divine gift bestowed upon a lucky few, and the competition saw 24 such extremely talented and gifted young singers. WHIZ KIDS COMPETITION was organized in the school for Classes III – V on 20 February 2015. Two students per section were selected. The topics for the competition were given on the spot. Class 3 used Microsoft PAINT program and the topics were – Landscape, Holi scene & My school. Class 4 & 5 used Microsoft POWER POINT program. The topics given to Class 4 were – My City, My Country & My School and for Class 5 were – Festivals of India, Costumes of India & Tourist Places of India. Students participated with great enthusiasm and enjoyed creating paintings and PowerPoint presentations.

General Knowledge Quizzes provide an impetus to sharpen the mind of children so that they can develop a personality of their own and can be more creative, aware and confident. Our school conducted Inter House General Knowledge Quiz for Classes I and II on 6 February 2015 and for Classes III, IV & V on 19 February 2015. The participants had to go through two different rounds – Preliminary and Final Round. On the basis of Preliminary round, two teams from each house were selected for the Final Round. There were 15 interesting and brain storming rounds, testing student’s scientific, analytical, quantitative and reasoning skills for Classes I and II. Patel House, comprising of Parth Katoch IB, Paanvi Gupta IC, Pari Kataria IIE and Pulkit Sakhija IIF, won the 1st Prize. The Final Round for Classes III, IV and V consisted of 3 rounds. Each round tested the quizzers on different topics like, inventions, mental math, technology, famous personalities, popular quotations, music maestros etc. Patel house participants (Rajnandini – III E, Nischay –IV G, Vansh – V B),were declared the winners in this category. The second position was secured by Gandhi House participants – Mridul- IIIF, Abhinav IV C, Lakshit V C. Several questions were also passed on to the audience to keep their interest alive. The quiz turned out to be a fun and a learning experience for all the students. |
To enchance students intellectual and analytical faculties a Quiz Competition for classes I & II was held on 6th Februray 2015. The students were selected from each house on the basis of the Preliminary round which took place on 4th Februray 2015. Finally four teams from each house were selected, namely Supremes (Shastri House), Victors (Nehru House), Champions (Patel Houise) and Leaders (Gandhi House).
The Quiz competition comprised of 15 interesting & storming rounds, focusing on students scientific, analytical, calculative and reasoning skills. The event became very exciting & informative with ‘Champions’ emerging as winners. To make the students aware about the conservation of energy ‘Bureau of Energy Efficiency’ (Govt. of India) conducted an “On the Spot Painting Competition" for the students. The competition was held at two levels : Category A comprised of the students from IV, V & VI category B consisted of the students from VII to IX. Drama is an illustrative and enjoyable way of learning and teaching. It helps the students in becoming extrovert, confident and expressive. The young and budding artists of Class III, Classes VI and VII showcased their talent in acting at the English Play Competition. For Class III, which was held on 1 November, the plays chosen were from the works of famous writer Padma Shree Ruskin Bond and Scottish born famous writer Saki. The Best Play trophy was bagged by Class III B for the play ‘The Boy who broke the Bank: Artists got under the skin of the characters and emulated it to perfection. The other plays performed were: The Blue Umbrella, The eyes have it, The Open Window, The tiger in the house and The thief. For Classes VI and VII, which was held on 15 November, various plays of different genre like, ‘Swami and his Friends’, ‘Story of My Life’ were showcased by budding actors. On the whole, it was a good platform for the students to learn all the nuances of acting.

“Dance as an art form is an expression of joy. It transcends the boundaries of language, culture and region to express and spread the universal feeling of love and harmony”. ‘Rhapsody’, a dance festival showcasing folk dance forms from across the world was organized by St. Mark’s Sr. Sec. Public School, Janak Puri on 8 November 2013. Students of classes III, IV and V dressed in colourful and attractive traditional costumes of various countries gave scintillating performances which enthralled the audience. As the programme unfolded with one spectacular performance after another, the audience got an opportunity to travel through countries like Greece, Phillipines, Columbia, Vietnam, Thailand, Chile, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Cuba, Russia, China and even into the deep interiors of Africa and Arabia and get a glimpse of their diverse culture and music. It proved to be an equally wonderful opportunity for the children to learn and present the different dancing styles.

‘Obesity’ - one of today’s most important public health problem is on rise not only among adults but more among teenagers. The only underlying reason is preference of Junk Food with no physical activity. As one of the ISA Activity, Banner Making Competition was organized on September 25, 2013 on topics : ‘Walk for Obesity’ & ‘Say No to Junk Food’ so as to create awareness among students as well as public regarding good food, good health.

An ‘Inter School Hasya Kavya Goshthi’ organized by Hindi Department was held in our school on 8 August 2013 where the students of IX & X recited their renditions (poems) and were appreciated by the judges. The students were awarded prizes and participation certificates. |
An Inter - Section English Play Competition for classes VI & VIII was held in the month of July, 2013. The students enacted various performances ranging from dark and gloomy plays like, ‘the Tragical History of Dr. Faustus’, to humorous ones like ‘Villa For Sale’. Devotional plays like ‘Mirabai’ and women empowerment ‘Medea’ were brilliantly performed. The young budding artists made the audience speechless with their enthusiastic performances. Principal Ms. Rama Sethi, Vice Principal Ms. Alka Kher and Educational Supervisor Ms. Anupam Ganesh appreciated and applauded the efforts put in by the students. Disaster Management Project was taken up by the Primary wing of SMS, Janakpuri, Delhi. Under this project student groups of classes I and II gathered important telephone numbers of various organization like fire department, police, home guards, red cross and prepared a telephone directory of different countries and also did a comparative study.
Classes III and IV was involved in making of a first aid box.
Class V was shown a Power Point Presentation of Disaster Management on the basis of this study a “Disaster Management Kit” was prepared. |

Poetry is expression of human’s emotions and feelings. It is the greatest creation of the highest and most noble minds. To infuse this feeling among students, an English Poetry Recitation Competition was held on July 28, 2011 for class I and II.
The core context of the poems comprised of topics on Fables, Seasons, Craftsmen, humour and nature. The Recitation was a joyful experience for the children.

G.K. Quiz for Classes I and II was held on 23rd September 2010. In which four teams were made. Tulip team comprising of Tamanna Ahuja of I F and Shivek Seth of II D were the winners. For Classes III to V the questions were based upon language, science and general awareness. All the teams performed well, 'Jasmine' team was the winner comprising of Nav Rai of III F, Vaishali of IV C and Karthik M. Paniker of V C. |
From a very tender age these days, the children are drawn towards T.V and internet. Reading stories in book are fast getting inundated. So to bring back the pleasures of reading, Read Abend competition for standard III to V was organized.

A Science Seminar was organized by the Science Centre at Govt. Boys Senior Secondary School, Janakpuri, C-Block on 22nd July 2009 at the Zonal level. The topic was “CHANDRAYAAN : PROMISES AND CONCERNS”. Around 36 schools were invited for the seminar. Mayank Arora of class IX A, also participated in the seminar. He explained the topic with the help of slide projector. His performance was praised by everyone. It was a wonderful experience. |
Our students participated in the Inter – School Robotics Challenge – 2009, on 17th April, 2009 at Sri Ram School. The participants made a functional wired robot which could pick up boxes and throw them in a basket. Nitesh Chopra VII E, Konark Baggal VII E, Neeti Chopra X B, Aanchan Arora X-B built the robot for which they received the second prize amongst 11 schools those who participated. |
