To mark a departure from the bookish learning and bridge the gap between wrote knowledge & implementation, Science Week “Quest” is an Annual feature of SMS Janakpuri. Activities like debate, Powerpoint Presentation, Science Quiz and display of working models on Science and Maths are conducted to enhance & reorient knowledge through contemplation, discussions & hand on experimentations.
The main thrust of the SCIENCE QUEST is to initiative creativity and pursue imagination through experiences beyond the shackles of syllabus. |

Science and Maths Exhibition was organised by our school on 28 July 2018. The endeavour was to inculcate a spirit of enquiry and a culture of ‘out of the box’ thinking amongst our students. Various themes and topics were showcased giving a peek into the minds of the young mathematicians and scientists.
It was exhilarating to see young mathematicians engaged in assembling bits and pieces of their model. Parents / visitors could also play these games and found them interesting. The exhibitors were encouraged by our School Chairman Mr. T. P. Aggarwal, Director Ms. Anjali Aggarwal and Principal Ms. Alka Kher. It was indeed an exhibition which gave the students exposure and confidence to present their thoughts and creativity.

Our school organised QUEST : Science and Maths Exhibition on 29 July 2017 in the school premises to promote scientific and mathematical skills among students of Classes VI to XII.
The exhibitants presented a spectacular display of Science models like ‘Home Automation’, ‘Alternative sources of energy’ and ‘Auroras – A natural phenomenon’. The concept of ‘Math is everywhere’ found its display in models like, ‘Understanding different Polygons using Magnets’, ‘Snakes and Ladders Game,’ ‘Fibinacci sequence in fashion’, etc. The students got an opportunity to dig deep into the interesting scientific concepts and got a platform to converse independently with various people. It also motivated them to work in groups and increased their skills to work in an organized manner.
The exhibits were encouraged and appreciated by school Manager Mr. Rahul Aggarwal, Principal Mrs. Alka Kher and parents alike. The winners of various competitions held during the exhibition were conferred with certificates. |

Science and Maths Quest at St. Mark’s Sr. Sec. Public School, Janakpuri was organized on 23rd July 2016 in the school premises. Scientific technology and Mathematical formulations are the harbingers of modernization, but their effective and judicious use in harmony with nature is the real analysis of knowledge. Integrated scientific concepts and inquisitive mathematical themes were successfully depicted in the various hands on exhibits at the Senior and the Sr. Secondary level.
Bio diversity in its contemporary and extinct form was shown by the juniors by enactments and personification of various forms. Effective experimentation and conceptual learning was aptly projected with fun and finesse. Chairman Mr. T. P.Aggarwal, Manager Mr. Rahul Aggarwal, Principal Ms. Rama Sethi, Vice Principal Ms. Alka Kher appreciated the knowledge and presentation by the participants. The judges and the parents were awestruck and overwhelmed by the presentations and quality conceptualization of the budding scientists and mathematicians. |

Science Quest – ‘Splendours of Science’ was held on 22nd August 2015 in the school premises. The main aim was to instill scientific temperament and nurture inquisitive behaviour amongst the students from I - XII following various themes related to physics, Chemistry and Biology.
Various experiments, exhibits(Static & working) and tableaus were put up at senior and junior level. They reiterated the fact that science does not endorse blind belief in anything but contradict and explore both optimistic and futuristic ideas till knowledge is acquired. The need to look beyond the 2nd hand knowledge from books by expanding quest, meaning and purpose with participation and implementation was very well established by restructuring and reorienting knowledge beyond the set pattern of curriculum.
In the senior level, agriculture and food technology from farm to table was the main theme for VI std., alternate sources of energy and future fuels was the topic of VII grade and students of VIII std. showcased exhibits on man made materials and robotics.
Dream big a knowledge based insight into various career opportunities and concepts of psychology like emotional, perception projective techniques, intelligence and unconscious mind were the new inclusion in the quest at the senior level.
The primary wing displayed exhibits on the various themes such as ‘Amazing world of plants and animals’, space voyage, ‘Earth and its Atmosphere’, ‘Know the human body’.
Taking a cue from our PM, the children also displayed “Yogasans” for the benefit of parents and visitors. Students demonstrated live experiments bringing out fun associated with science.
Smoke rings, floating water, disappearing glass, floating pin, bouncy bubbles, water candle, fire proof balloons, floating eggs and sparkling explosion were some of other major highlights.
Parents and visitors had special appreciation for the efforts and indepth knowledge of the participants. |

To inculcate in young minds scientific fervor and to enhance their logical and reasoning instincts - Maths & Science Exhibition titled “STEM” was organized in school. The entire theme underlying the exhibition was to introduce these so called “Dreaded” subjects in a friendly manner by visualizing them in every part of nature.
With this theme in mind students of Classes VI to XI prepared their exhibits and showcased how these duo realms of knowledge can be an integral part of music, dance, astronomy, space, household items etc. and even jewellery.
The aim to exercise & arouse interest & enhance the level of psychomotor and cognitive curiosity in students was fully achieved. They enthusiastically explained & justified each concept.
The exhibition was appreciated by the School Manager Mr. Rahul Aggarwal, Principal Ms. Rama Sethi, Members of Managing Committee & by the judges and parents who gave wonderful & encouraging comments about the entire event. |

St. Mark’s Sr. Sec. Public School, Janak Puri organized the “Maths & Science Week”, with the sole aim of building up mathematical & scientific literacy, so that students become more productive and engaged citizens of the 21st century. Both Mathematics & Science go together. Mathematics, being the study of quantity, structure, space and change - often called the language of Science is essential for analyzing and communicating scientific theories in a way that is clear, succinct and testable.
The week from 26th to 31st August 2013 was packed with a wide range of activities in which the students learnt, explored, designed, innovated and proudly exhibited their work. Maths activities included “Geometrical Rangoli” (symmetry & design) pattern for classes VI – VIII, ‘Tessellations’ (reflection/rotation) for class VIII, Sudoku for class IX & “Know your Mathematicians” (quiz) for class X.
Working on Science theme “What Next?” class XI & XII students researched on the latest topics such as nanotechnology, Iron man, green chemistry etc. and called on their knowledge and skills to prepare science documentaries. The VI & VII class students gathered relevant and fascinating information on topics such as active contact lenses, robotics, green energy, solar cars and door bots for home safety, among others, for their Power Point Presentations. Students of class VIII & IX debated on the topic, “Is man’s greatest ability responsible for his own destruction?” In “Chemistry in Everyday Life”, the students of class IX and X prepared common house hold items such as soap, perfume and bleaching cream, among others.
An exclusive display of prize winning works of Science and Maths activities held throughout the week was put up for the parents and visitor along with the Mathematical models & exhibits. The Egyptian and Chinese numerals, structure of the pyramids, the water clock, Pythagorean theorem, the Mobius strip, tetrahedron, geodesic dome etc., showcasing the historical timeline of Mathematical progress from the Classical era to modern times. The students of classes IV & V conducted numerous interesting experiments such as secret messaging, piercing a balloon, running pepper, soil conservation, floating grains and explain the concepts to the visitors.
The enthusiasm and confidence of participants impressed everyone. School Director Ms. Anjali Aggarwal, Principal Ms. Rama Sethi, Vice Principal Ms. Alka Kher and Mr. Gurpreet Tuteja, HOD Maths Department, (Delhi University) praised the efforts made by the students and staff in presenting a marvellous exhibition. The week marked a corner stone of successful Mathematical & Scientific education in the school. |

Our school organized its ANNUAL SCIENCE QUEST from 23 – 25 August 2012 in true spirit of scientific pursuit. The students from classes VI - XI participated in activities like QUIZ, making a SCIENCE BULLETIN and DOCUMENTARIES on healthy life respectively. KASHIKA & JASPREET of VIII-B got First prize in making science bulletin. AKANSHA & AKSHITA AGGARWAL of XI-B won First team prize for their short film. The class VII students presented the story behind discoveries and inventions such as gravity by Newton, telescope by Galileo, radium by Marie Curie etc. in the event “ EUREKA”. The First prize was bagged by MEDHA SHARMA of class VII-D for giving the story of Marie Curie’s discovery of radium. In the event “NOBLE PRIZE WINNERS SPEAK” for CLASS IX, the students spoke about contributions of the well known noble laureates such as SIR C. V. RAMAN, SIR J. J. THOMPSON etc. RAHUL BEER of IX-F won First prize for depicting the scientist. |

Scientific fervour could be felt all around as the young and budding scientists set up their exhibits and models. Primary students of IV and V demonstrated their experiments on air pressure, density, properties of liquids, etc SAKSHI NEERAJ & DISHITA of V won First prize for balloon hovercraft. The middle wing students prepared exhibits which answered to the ”WHY“ aspect of scientific principles such as why should we know our blood group, why is friction a necessary evil etc and thus proved their knowledge. DIVYA & MUSKAAN OF VIII-B got First prize for their explanation of why friction is a necessary evil. The senior students showed ways to recycle and reuse waste junk by remaking ”WONDERFUL JUNK”. Remarkable models such as water rocket, etc were prepared using waste CD’s, straws, paper and plastic. The water rocket made from junk by XI-B students RISHABH SOLANKI, SHUBHAM SETHI & VISHESH KUMAR was declared the Best Model. |

On 29 September 2011, Inter House G.K Quiz for classes I & II was conducted, in which four teams comprising of four students from each house participated. It was multimedia based and conducted on the smart board. Interesting spheres like Vocabulary, Know your Country, Animals, Plants, Food, Who's Who, Music & Sports were covered. All the participants answered Quiz Master's questions enthusiastically.
Neck to neck fight between Patel and Shastri House ended in Tanya Sharma (I-F), Nishchay Juneja (I-G), Arnav Singh (II-C) and Kritika Gandhi (II-D) from Patel House emerging winners. |
