Reading should not be presented to children as a chore or duty; It should be offered to them as a precious gift. 28 November to 3 December book fever swept through our school, as the Book Week celebrations got under way and, by the end of an exciting five days filled with activities, all the students were assured that reading books not only empowers each one of us but can also unite us.

The week commenced with the inauguration of Book Fair, organized by Scholastic India, by our Director Mr. Rahul Aggarwal on 28 November. The books, as per need and requirements of young readers, were exhibited during the entire weekfor browsing, and were also available for sale.

Students of Classes I-V participated in various class activities. Class teachers held lively discussions with the students about their favourite book. Various activities like making of book corner, puppet, story book, story calendar and pop-up story book were undertaken.Students were provided with lots of words, art, adventure and activities, for expanding their vistas of knowledge, empathy and enjoyment!

Workshop and Author Interaction : A workshop by Mr. Ajit Narayan, a professional cartoonist, was organized for Class V students on 30 November. Mr. Ajit Narayan has been sketching cartoons for various newspapers and reputed publishing houses for over 16 years. The students were overwhelmed by the wonders of geometric shapes and their aid in drawing cats, fish or dogs. It was a fun learning experience for the students where they took notes on various aspects of cartooning.

Book Talk : A booktalk in the broadest term is what is spoken with the idea to convince someone to read. In this activity one student from each section of Class IV was given a book to read and they had to give a brief idea about the book in front of their classmates. Students presented the book in such a manner that it enthused the listener to read the book.

Author Interaction by Mr. Inder Raj Ahluwalia

Travelling . . . It leaves you speechless . . . or makes you into a story teller.” To express the simpler idea of creativity and innovation, a rendezvous was organized as a part of Book Week in our school, where internationally renowned travel writer, Mr. Inder Raj Ahluwalia was welcomed as the guest speaker to interact with the students of Classes IX- XI on 29 November. He not only shared his life experiences but also discussed about his passion for writing and travelling. It was a thrilling moment when he shared about the details of his stay at Namibia, Paris, New York and Germany; being one of his favourite places. His inspirational words left a mind stirring impact on the students.The rendezvous concluded with an exhilarating moment where the students got the opportunity to have a copy of his travel novel, ‘Meet me at the Border’ autographed. Mr. Inder Raj Ahluwalia, though an erudite was yet a humble person.

Author Interaction by Mr. Karan Bhatia

You are never lonely when you have a book to read and to gain this experience, a few students of Class XI got an opportunity to meet the well-known author of the book ‘I was in love I am in love’ Mr. Karan Bhatia on 28 November. Being a school alumni, he connects with students well. He discussed about his experiences in life and passion for writing, which, he metamorphically stated, had helped him paint the canvas of life with enthusiasm and zest.

Greeting the World : The activity for the students of Class VI, on 28 November was ‘greeting one another’. The students worked in pairs and prepared a short conversation for greeting one anotherin different languages. They were required to prepare greeting cards or postcards,and write their messages using greetings and salutationsin different languages, for sharing with partner schools. The top five student pairs whose cards were selected were:

Bande Dessine’eComic Strip : This activity was organized for Class VII students on 30 November. Each section was allotted a specific country namely USA, China, France, UK, Japan and India from which they were supposed to pick up a famous cartoon and present comic strip on the same. Group from Class VII-E bagged the first Prize. Names of the winning group members are as follows :

Vivid Victorians’ - Powerpoint Presentation Making Competition

“Literature is the most agreeable way of ignoring life.” - Fernando Pessoa.

We believe literature is the celebration of grandeur of life. The Victorian era was a great age of the realistic English novels, the ideal form to describe contemporary life and to entertain the middle class. ‘Vivid Victorians’ - Power Point Presentation Making Competition was organized for the students of Class VIII on 01 December, as a part of ‘Book Week’ to enhance their knowledge about Victorian authors and their work. Among the Victorian masters of fiction were the great Emily Brontë, Charlotte Brontë, George Eliot (Mary Ann Evans), George Meredith to name a few. Students prepared PowerPoint presentations about these authors and gave verbal presentations too. The students were judged on the basis of the content, ICT skills and verbal presentation. The best three presentations were selected. The efforts of these students were appreciated and they were encouraged to read and gain more knowledge about such renowned authors.

The above activities in respect of Classes VI to VIII were part of ISA activity also Book Review : The Book Review activity was conducted on 01 December by Class IX students, as one of the book week activities. In order to pep up student’s enthusiasm for reading while creating opportunities for them to practice reading comprehension and build language art skills, this activity had been organized. Terribly Tiny Tales : This activity was organized for Class X students on 28 November, where the participants presented their stories within 120 characters. Students really enjoyed writing the ‘Tiny’ Tales. The Judge was truly impressed by the way the students presented the work by playing around with the words. Results are as follows :

Poster Making : The activity for students of Class XI was to make book covers and posters on novel based movies. The activity got huge response and entire class participated from all the sections. The three best posters were :

Taken as a whole, the Book Week was a joyful experience to everyone associated with it, whether a student ora facilitator or the school management. The Book Week culminated with the hope of being successful in transforming a few more non-readers into potential readers & potential readers into active readers. The organizers thanked our Principal, Education Supervisors, teachers, support staff, students and parents,all of whom had helped make it such a special week.

Book Week was observed with great enthusiasm from December 14, 2015 to December 19, 2015 to create awareness amongst the students and catalyse their reading habit. Everybody enjoyed all the activities and Intra Class Competitions in zest and zeal. The theme of the Book Week was ‘So much to see, so much to learn @ your Library’. Many activities were organised during the week. A Book fair was organised in collaboration with Scholastic from 14 December to 19 December. All young enthusiasts showed great interest for the latest arrivals in both fiction and non-fiction category. Class II-F was selected as the ‘Class of Readers’ by Scholastic, India. They were gifted a set of books for their class library.

Class room challenge; a part of Book Fair activity was enjoyed by entire student community from 16 December to 18 December. Students of Classes I - IX participated in number of activities Author Ms. Vanessa Ohri visited our school on 18 December for an Interactive Session with the students of Class VI. The focus area of the session was theatre and its implications at school level. The author also discussed about her book - Play it Right. She introduced to students the terminology used in theatre. The session ended with the Author autographing students’ personalised copy of her book - Play it Right.

Terribly Tiny Tales - an open contest for all the readers (students as well as teachers) was organised from 16 December to 19 December, wherein the participants wrote their stories in 120 characters (Maximum). Students really enjoyed writing the Tiny Tales. Judges were truly impressed with the students’ creative work - playing with the words. The entries of Stuti Mittal, VIIF (Classes VI-VIII) and Parul Kataria, XA (Classes IX-XII) were adjudged the Best Entry in respective category.

A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies; the man who never reads lives only once. Embodying the same thought, our school organized the annual “Book Week” from 16 to 19 December 2014 to inculcate the love for reading amongst students. Various activities were conducted for Classes I to X. This year’s Book Week was celebrated with a special theme of Flora-Fauna & Facts wherein most of the activities were based on plant and animal life apart from reading. On 16 Dec. 2014the Book Week started with an Art competition for Classes I to V and an Essay writing competition on the topic “Imagine a world without animals” for Classes IV and V. On 17 Dec. 2014, Class I students, dressed up in their favourite animal character and spoke a few lines on the same; Class II students made colourful bookmarks and Class III students made various innovative book jackets, Class IX & X had ‘Book and Shelf Talker’ and ‘Documentary Screening’ activity. On 18 Dec. 2014, Class IV students made attractive advertisements to sell a story book on E-Bay and Class VI were enthralled and mesmerized by Mr. Sanjay Muttoo, the eminent story teller, who narrated charismatic stories using his unique voice modulation and special gesture. On 19 Dec. 2014, Class V students created Comic strips based on their favorite stories. and Class VII had Spin a Yarn: Story Creation activity and Class VIII had ‘Adopt a Book’ activity. Overall, the students participated with great enthusiasm and enjoyed their respective activities.

An interesting & interactive Story Telling for Classes IV & V was held on 16th July 2014 as part of “Scholastic Book Week”. The session co-ordinator Ms. Simmi Srivastava (a life skills trainer & a performing artist) narrated the stories by using puppets & voice modulation. Towards the end students camp up with innovative titles for the stories.

Ajit Narayan a well known professional cartoonist, illustrator and author of the book ‘Cartooning with Ajit Narayan’ and ‘How to animal cartoons’ was a special guest speaker of the Book Week.

He taught students of VI std. the various nuances of cartoon making.

During the entire week the students participated in various brain storming activities and competitions.

The Annual ‘BOOK WEEK’ was held in our school from 12th December to 17th December 2011.

A variety of literary and creative activities were conducted throughout the week and the students actively participated and enjoyed them.

For the Juniors the activities were

  • Multimedia Quiz for class II
  • Name The Book for class III
  • Scavenger Hunt for class IV
  • Books Open Doors for class V
A story telling session was held for class V by Ms. Vijayanti Pompe, a versatile author presently associated with Scholastic India Pvt. Ltd.

Book Week 2010 - (13 to 18 December 2010)
Reading books strengthens the mind, opens the door to the world of creative thoughts and imagination. Life would indeed be poor without books. Keeping this in view, the Annual Book Week was held in our school from 13th to 18th December 2010. A variety of literary activities were organized throughout the week and the students actively participated and enjoyed them.

The inauguration was presided over by our Chairman Mr. T. P. Aggarwal and guests from Scholastic India Pvt. Ltd. The high point of the week was a book fair organized by Scholastic India which gave the children an opportunity to browse and buy some interesting books. A story telling session was held for class I by Ms. Monisha Gupta workshops on ‘Creative Writing’ and ‘Fun With English’ were held for classes IV and V respectively.
