On 20 and 21 January, 2015, St. Mark’s Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh hosted Lexicon (2014 - 15) ‘Literary and Language Extravaganza’ for classes VI to XI. Lexicon is the school’s initiative to give opportunities to students to take part in a large number of literary events like ‘Fiction Comes Alive’ (Character Dramatization), ‘Powerful Pens’ (Speak about an Author/Poet), ‘Lyrics on Stage’ (Poetry Dramatization), ‘Shakespearean Fantasy’ (English Play) and Quiz on ‘Books and Authors’ and ‘Shakespeare’. Prominent among the thirty schools from various parts of Delhi that participated in the event were Tagore International School, Vasant Vihar, Bal Bharati Public School, Rajendra Nagar, Delhi Public School, Dwarka, Delhi Public School, Rohini, Manav Sthali School, Rajendra Nagar. The competitions were judged by Senior English teachers from reputed schools, Ms. Vandana Tandon, resource person from The Times of India and Ms. Naghma Zafir, a theatre enthusiast.

The event was sponsored by Goyal Brothers Prakashan, Navdeep, Frank Educational Aids Pvt. Ltd., APC Books, Ratna Sagar P. Ltd. and Saraswati House Pvt. Ltd.

Following students of our school made us proud by winning prizes in the various events :
  • Gaurika Gupta (VI H) and Prashant Choudhary (VI E) won the second position in ‘Character Dramatization’.
  • Nishchay Vij (VII B) and Kashish Kaul (VII B) won the second position in ‘Poetry Dramatization’.
  • Abhinav Arora (VII C) and Simran Vohra (VII C) won a special prize in ‘Poetry Dramatization’.
Students of our school made a clean sweep in Quiz. In Class IX ‘Quiz on Books and Authors’ Tanya Batra (IX B) and Hardik Bharti (IX C) won the Best Team award and the I Runners Up were Bhavya Goel (IX F) and Tanvi Khanna (IX F). In Class XI ‘Quiz on Shakespeare’ Ishan Arora (XI F) and Shambhavi Prabhakar (XI D) bagged the award for the Best Team and Mayank Rawal (XI E) and Mansi Topa (XI A) were the I Runner Up.

On 18 February, 2015 our school hosted Lexicon (2014 – 15) for classes I – V. This event included ‘Poetic Magic’ English Poetry Recitation. Poems were recited on following themes Class I – Mother , Class II – Animals, Class III – Humour, Class IV – Nature and Class V – Patriotism. Twenty prominent schools from various parts of Delhi participated. The competition was judged by various senior English teachers from reputed schools including Ms. Annu Singh from The Times of India and Mr. Bhavesh from Hindustan Times.

The winners from our school were Class I - I Prize – Praduman Sapra (I E) and Special Prize - Navya M. Warrier (I E)
In Class II the winners were I Prize – Tanish Khattar (II G) and II Prize – Riya Chopra (II G). In Class III the winners were
I Prize – Vani Baluja (III B) and III Prize – Sanchita Sharma (III B). In Class IV Ridhima Choudhary (IV A) won the Special Prize and in Class V Ishaan Sinha (V A) bagged the II Prize.

Literary Festival at St. Mark’s, Meera Bagh - (18 to 23 January 2013)
"Books are the carriers of civilization". Without books, history is silent, literature dumb, science crippled, thought and speculation at a standstill. They are engines of change, windows to the world, lighthouses.... erected in the sea of time." BARBARA TUCHMAN... The new year began on a positive note when approx. 25 schools all over Delhi participated in LEXICON-A LITERARY AND LANGUAGE EXTRAVAGANZA, an Inter School event organized by St. Mark's Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh, from 18 to 23 January 2013.

More than 900 students participated in the event which was divided into 3 categories - primary, middle and seniors. The little ones captured everyone's attention by reciting the poems confidently while the students of Classes IV and V presented plays based on children's literature. Students of Class VI dramatized immortal fictional characters. Class VII students showcased their presence of mind and speaking skills in extempore. Students of Class XI participated in the Quiz on" William Shakespeare", while students of Class VIII had a Quiz on "Books and Authors".

The highest form of art, Theatre was once again celebrated as students of Class XI presented plays on the theme-A flight of fantasy! Debate and Poetry Enactment were enjoyed by the audience and the judges alike. The judges were eminent personalities from the world of literature, theatre and education. Ms. Vanita Zutshi, children’s writer, Ms. Ira Sehgal, Consultant, NIE, Ms. Vandana Tandon, Consultant, NIE, Ms. Garima Arya, theatre personality, Mr. Tariqh, theatre personality, Mr. Shekhar Murugan, theatre enthusiast from Yatrik Theatre group, Ms. Rita Roy Chowdhary, Consultant, HT, to name a few. The event culminated on 23 January 2013 with the prize distribution ceremony. Ms Anju Sehgal Gupta, Literature & Language Expert, School of Humanities, IGNOU and Ms. Sara Aulin, First Secretary, Cultural & Commercial Affairs, Embassy of Sweden, were the special guests of honour. St. Mark's Girls Sr. Sec. School, Meera Bagh, bagged the best school trophy !
Lexicon 2010 was hosted from 19th to 22nd January 2010
Theatre Festival - Lexicon : St. Mark's Sr. Sec. Public School, Meerabagh, DelhiThis year too this Literary Extravaganza was hosted to give students a chance to showcase their talent. A plethora of events such as Poetry Enactment, Character Dramatization, Recitation, Debates, Speeches, Turncoat and Quizzes on fairy tales, classics, books and authors were held during the entire week. The finale was a Theatre Festival wherein the students presented English and Hindi plays based on extracts from Literature.

The little ones presented fairy tales such as, The Ruby Prince, stories of Panchatantra, Dr Dolittle, The chronicles of Narnia, and The Hunchback of Notre Dame. The judges for the various activities were distinguished educators from different schools and eminent personalities from theatre, Mr. Manav Mehra, Mr. Dharam Arora and Mr. Suddharth Bhatia from Yatrik Theatre Group and Ms. Swati Sharma, Asst. Manager, HT Pace.

Truly, a wonderful way to usher in the New Year.
