Under the aegis of SPIC MACAY, St. Mark’s Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh witnessed a ‘Gurbani’ recital by Professor Alankar Singh, on 21 July, 2017. He commenced his recital by explaining the meaning of ‘Guru’, ‘Gurbani’ and ‘EkOmkar’. He went on to sing the ‘Manglacharan’ and then sang the first ‘Shabad’ – ‘Man Japo RamGopal’ in ‘RaagKandha’ in ‘Padtaal’ written by Guru AngadDevji. The second ‘Shabad’ was ‘Re Man Ram seunkarpreet’ written by Guru TegBahadurji, composed in ‘RaagNand’ and in ‘Roopaktaal’. He ended the recital with a ‘Shabad’ ‘Manaskijaat sab ek hi’ composed in ‘RaagAasra’ and ‘DeepbandiTaal’ written by Guru Gobind Singh ji. He was accompanied by Sh. Sandeep Singh on ‘Dilruba’ and vocal support and by Sh. Narinder Pal Singh on ‘tabla’. It was indeed a divine experience for all the students who seemed to have been transported to another level. There was a reverence in the air and a serene silence which is always observed during such a mesmerizing recital of ‘Shabads’. |

Under the aegis of SPIC MACAY, the students of St. Mark’s Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh, had the opportunity of witnessing a Qawwali Recital by Yousuf Khan Nizami ji. He was accompanied by Khawaja Hassan Nizami ji, Zeeshan Nizami ji, Afreen Nizami ji and Sufia Nizami ji as the chorus. Accompanying them on the ‘Dholak’ was Hamsar Nizami ji and on the ‘Tabla’ was the thirteen years old Farmaan Nizami.They commenced the programme with an invocation to God “Allah Hu” and ended with the famous and the most popular of ‘Sufi qawwalis’ “Dama Dum Mast Kalandar....”. It was indeed a very captivating and spellbinding rendition which will always remain imbedded in the students’ memory for a long time to come. |

On 5 August 2015, under the aegis of SPIC MACAY, the students of St. Mark’s Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh, had a life time experience of witnessing a Mohan Veena recital by the most acclaimed Maestro, Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt. The Chairman of the school, Mr. T. P. Aggarwal, accompanied Pandit Vishwa Mohan to light the lamp. It was a moment to be cherished by all present.
He commenced his recital with the ‘Alaap Swaroop’ of the “Nat Bhairav Raga” and then went on to enthral the students with “Vilambit Laya”. He involved the students by making them chant in chorus “Ekgun, Dogun,..... till Athgun” . He then played “Gat in Drut Teen Taal” which left everyone spellbound. Finally, he mesmerised the students by playing a piece from his Grammy Award Winning Album “A Meeting by the River”. He made the students sing with his recital which was indeed an awe inspiring moment. He was accompanied on the table by the young and extremely talented Shri. Pranshu Chaturlal, grandson of the Legendary Tabla Wizard Late Pandit Chatur Lal and son of Pandit Charanjit Lal.
As the school celebrates the Silver Jubilee Year, it was indeed a magnificent and the most delightful gift for the students to watch Pandit Vishwa Mohan dazzle and enchant every one with his recital. |
Four students of St. Mark's Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh - Aayushi Goel (XII D), (XII A), Prakshi Goel (XII D) and Simran Kanwar (XII D) alongwith teacher incharge Ms. K. Mehta attended the III International Convention of Spic Macay in Mumbai from 31 May to 6 June 2015.
It was indeed a great learning experience for the young girls. They had the opportunity to witness the performances of great maestros like Pandit Birju Maharaj, Smt. Girija Devi ji, Smt. Sujata Mohapatra, Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma - to name a few. The girls learnt 'Kathak' from the famous Kathak dancer Smt. Prerna Shrimali.
It was a treat to watch Shri. Adoor Gopala krishnan's movie 'Kathapurushan' followed by a question and answer session with him. Other mesmerizing performances were 'Kabir' by Shri. Shekhar Sen and a lecture demonstration by Dadi Pudumjee.
A convention they will remember throughout their life and an experience they would like to share with all. |

Under the aegis of SPIC MACAY St. Mark’s Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh organised ‘Pandavni’ recital by Teejan Baiji on 19 November, 2014. She enthralled the students with her awe inspiring performance including ‘Yudh’ between Karan and Arjun and ‘Dushasan Vadh’. Her unique style and her typical guttral voice and verve mesmerized the young audience. She was accompanied by Ram Chandraji as ragi, Tirend Kumarji on the harmonium, Deshmukhji on the tabla, Narottam Netam ji on the dholak, Bhagoli Ramji on the benjo and Manharan Sarvaji on the manjeera. Students will always cherish the memories of her performance.

Under the aegis of Spic Macay the students of St. Mark's Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh, witnessed a wonderful Kathak Dance recital by Rani Khanam ji. Accompanied by Ustaad Naushad Ahmed ji on ‘tabla’, Ustaad Nasir Khan ji on ‘sarangi’ and Shoaib Hassan ji as the vocalist she mesmerized the audience with her lec-dem. She commenced the recital with an invocation to the ‘Ardhanaarishwar’. She gave a brief introduction to the classical dance forms of India, specially ‘Kathak’, and went on to demonstrate ‘Tatkar’, ‘jugalbandi’ with ‘tabla’, a small episode of Krishna and Radha, ‘Chakkar’, ‘Sawal jawab’ with ‘tabla’ and ended the performance with a stupendous ‘Thumari’ - ‘mohe chodon na’ based on ‘Raag Kalawati’. The fascinating performance left the students spell bound. |

A group of 10 students accompanied by Ms. Kavita Mehta and Ms. S. Kansra of St. Mark's Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh, attended the first SPIC MACAY International Convention at IIM, Kolkata, from 20 to 26 May 2013. Students got the privilege to witness a plethora of cultural programmes by maestros like Pandit Birju Maharaj, Pandit Ulhas Kashalkar, Ustad Abdul Rashid Khan, Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma, Kalamandalam Gopi, Ustaad Debu and many more.
The students also attended intensives of art forms like Hindustani Vocal, Papier Mache, Koodiyattam, Saatriya, Indian contemporary. It was a life changing experience for all the students as these seven days helped them grow richer culturally and morally. |
Under the aegis of SPIC MACAY, the students of St. Mark’s Sr. Sec. Public school witnessed a Kathak Dance Recital by the renowned artiste Vidushi Uma Sharmaji, on 27th September, 2012. The Septuagenarian left the audience awestruck by her performance. She commenced the recital with a ‘Vishnu Vandana’ followed by some pure techniques of Kathak. She then explained ‘Kavit’- a story rhythm through Prahlad’s tale. She went on to mesmerize the young audience with the famous ‘Krishna Yashoda’ anecdote and ‘Marich Vadh’ from Ramayana. She ended the recital with the most endearing ‘Sawal-Jawab’ a fusion of tabla and her footwork. It was indeed a performance that the students will always remember very fondly and with awe. |
Five students - Diksha Luthra, Palak Arora, Nikita Sareen, Shreya Behl and Sibangi Nag along with the teacher in charge Ms. Kavita Mehta attended the Annual Convention of SPIC MACAY at NITK Surathkal, Karnataka, from 28th May 2012 to 2nd June 2012. After a journey of forty hours, they reached Surathkal on the midnight of 27th May 2012. After the registration on 28th May 2012, the roller coaster ride started. Wakeup call at 3:30 am - going for a session of yoga for three hours, ‘Shramdaan’ - keeping the campus clean - attending the morning session of either folk dance like Yaksha Gram or folk dances of Karnataka, a movie, a documentary, a talk- having lunch at 12 noon - going for respective intensive - dinner at 6:00 pm. and then watching the performances of great maestros - a light refreshment and then lights off ?? At 11:30 pm - to get up again at 3:30 am. in the morning. The students got the opportunity of watching the performances of great maestros like - T. N. Krishnan (Vocal), N. Rajam (Violin), Madhavi Mudgal (Oddissi Dance), Malvika Sarukare (Bharatnatyam), Margi Madhu (Kuddiyatam) and learning from the Dhananjayam and other great artists during their intensives.
It was indeed an experience that they will remember throughout their life. Six days of discipline, no mobiles, no television, no internet- Just music, dance and culture.... It was indeed food for the soul. On the 3rd of June the students enjoyed on the pristine beach of Surathkal. They started the journey back to Delhi at 10:50 p.m. on 3rd of June and reached Delhi on 5th June 2012 .... back to the mundane routine. |

Under the aegis of SPIC MACAY, the students of St. Mark's Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh, witnessed an enthralling Mohiniyattam performance by Ms. Vijay Lakshmi on 9th March 2012.
She brought the dance form a much needed fresh perspective.
The grace with which her facial expressions delivered her thoughts was remarkable.

Under the aegis of SPIC MACAY the students of St. Mark's Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh, got the opportunity of witnessing a wonderful Kuchipudi Dance recital by Smt. Vanashree Rao, the eminent Kuchipudi maestro. She enthralled the young audience with her lecture demonstration. Initiating the performance with ‘Natya’ i.e. hand and face expressions, she went on to perform ‘Nritya’ – beautiful dance movements. She then presented two small incidents from the life of Lord Krishna and culminated the performance with the stupendous ‘Thali’ dance. She was accompanied on the ‘Natvaryam’ by Sh. Vasudevanji, Vocalist Sh. Venketeshvaran ji, on the violin by Sh. R. Keshvanji and on the ‘mridangam’ Sh. Srinivasanji. It was indeed an awe inspiring experience. |
“Yeh kala hamko virasat mein mili hai”, remarked Mohd. Illiyas Ji and further added, “Qawwali singing has been the art form of our family for the past 800 years”.
It was indeed a matter of great pride and pleasure for the students of St. Mark's Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh, as they got the opportunity of witnessing a Qawwali Recital by the famous Qutbi Brothers Qawwals, on 15 April 2011, under the aegis of SPIC MACAY.
Mohd. Idris Ji and Mohd. Illiyas Ji, along with their troupe, commenced their recital with the qawwali ‘Allah Hu…” which praised and admired the oneness of all religions. They further enthralled the audience with their famous qawwali “Chaap Tilak sab chhini…”. Intermittently they recited couplets in praise of the Almighty, the ‘Guru’ and ‘Parents’. It was indeed a novel way of teaching and reaching out to the young minds. The students went into raptures as they culminated their recital with ‘Damadam mast kalandar, mera piya ghar aayo and some lines of Bulle Shahs'. It was a spectacular medley which resulted in a standing ovation. |
Under the aegis of SPIC MACAY 60 students of St. Mark's Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh, had the opportunity to attend intensive workshops, in Madhubani Painting and Odissi Dance. The Madhubani painting workshop was conducted by Smt. Shanti Devi. The enthusiastic young painters came out with beautiful and vibrant Madubani Paintings, at the end of the workshop.

Under the aegis of SPICMACAY, the students of St. Mark’s Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh, had the privilege of witnessing an awe inspiring Kathak Dance Recital by Pt. Rammohan Maharaj, on 29 September 2010. His Lec – dem commenced with a brief introduction to ‘Kathak’. He began his recital with ‘Krishna Vandana’ and went on to enthrall the students with ‘URaj’, ‘Laya’, ‘Jugal Bandi’, ‘Thaat’, a small portrayal of ‘Makhan Chori’ by Krishna and many such wonderful nuances as a glimpse to what ‘Kathak’ dance is all about. He ended his performance with ‘Param’. Accompanying him on the ‘tabla’ were Sh. Akhilesh Bhatt, who mesmerized the students with his stupendous and remarkable expertise as a Tabla Player. Sh. Nasir Khanji accompanied him on the ‘Sarangi’ and Sh. Santosh Kumar Sinhaji as the vocalist. It was indeed a breathtaking and magnificent performance. |
A group of 5 students along with teacher of St. Mark's Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh, attended the Annual Convention of SPIC MACAY from 1 to 6 June 2010 at Kanpur. It was indeed an awe inspiring experience for the students. It was organized by SPIC MACAY alongwith the students and faculty of IIT Kanpur. The students got a chance to see performances by maestros like - Smt. Girija Devi (Vocalist), Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Ustad Rashid Ali Khanji (Vocalist), Smt. N. Rajam (Violinist), The Sabri brothers (Qawwali). Some forms of folk music (Birha) and folk dances also enthralled them. They also had the opportunity to join varied intensives and learn art forms like wood carving, pottery weaving, etc. The overnight performances were enjoyed by them thoroughly. This experience will be etched in their memories forever. |
We organized an Odissi Dance Workshop “Intensive” through SPIC MACAY from 5 November 2009 to 10 Nov 2009. 50 girls from classes VI and VII attended this workshop, which was conducted by Ms. Kavita Dwivedi, the renowned Odissi Dancer. She began the workshop by enlightening the students about the culture of Orissa and Odissi Dance. Students learnt many body postures, steps and mudras in Odissi dance from like -

» Bhavri
On the last day they interacted with Ms. Kavita Dwivedi where she told them about Lord Jagannath. It was an enjoyable experience for all the participants. |

A Kathakali performance was organized by SPIC MACAY and Padamashree Kalamandalam Gopi Ji along with seven other members showed a splendid form of dance in the School Auditorium on 30 October 2009. Born in 1937 in the village of Kothachira, Kerala, Kalamandalam Gopi, (real name Vadakka Manalath Govindan) has over a thirty years career as an outstanding Kathakali artist for his eminence in dance and his contribution to its enrichment.
Kalamandalam Gopi received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1987. Through his dance performance he depicted a short play “Kalyam Sangandhinanv” from Mahabharata along with some amazing facial expressions. An interactive session between students and the artists culminated the programme. |

She began the performance by enlightening the students about the various classical dance forms of India, specially Odissi. |

The first performance was 'Mangla Charan' followed by 'Pallavi' a pure dance form, 'Abhinaya' in which she depicted the story of 'Salbeg' a devotee of Lord Jaganath and cultimated the performance with 'Moksha'. She was accompanied by Sh. Prafful Kumar Mangraj on 'mardal', Sh. Gopinath Swain on 'violin', Sh. Prashant Kumar Behera as the 'vocalist' and Ms. Kaveri Behera on the 'manjeera'. It was indeed a stupendous performance which the students not onlyn enjoyed watching but was also an eye opener for them as they learnt a lot about the Odissi Dance form, the various body positios and mudras and also about Lord Jagannath. |
