Quest
To mark a departure from the bookish learning and bridge the gap between wrote knowledge & implementation, Science Week “Quest” is an Annual feature of SMS Janakpuri. Activities like debate, Powerpoint Presentation, Science Quiz and display of working models on Science and Maths are conducted to enhance & reorient knowledge through contemplation, discussions & hand on experimentations.

The main thrust of the SCIENCE QUEST is to initiative creativity and pursue imagination through experiences beyond the shackles of syllabus.

St. Mark’s Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh organized the 'Annual Inter School Science and Maths Festival - QUEST 2023' from 16 to 19 August for the students of Classes VI-XII, with interactive and stimulating events that aimed to put their scientific knowledge and skills to the test and teach them the relevance of their learning and teamwork.

We are delighted to share the results of the event, where our students were recognised for their performances in the following competitions.

1. PRAKRITI EK PRERNA - FIRST PRIZE
Sharanya Bhattacharya (VI F) and Mayra Saini (VI B) participated as a team and bagged First Prize for demonstrating the process of Evapotranspiration.

Anirudh Asthana (VII C) in a questionnaire based activity on mathematical puzzles, Sudoku, number games etc.

4. VAASTUKALA MEIN GANIT - SPECIAL PRIZE
Parakh Kamra of X C bagged the Special Prize for a model based on Architecture in Maths.

5. MATHS MANTRA - THIRD PRIZE
Aarushi Garg of IX F bagged the Third Prize for designing a Mind map on the theme "Algebraic Expressions".

6. SCIENCE DEBATE – SECOND & THIRD PRIZE
Dimple Rai (XII C) & Naman Mahawer (XII C) won the Second and Third prize respectively for speaking eloquently on the topic ‘Artificial Intelligence goes beyond human brain'.

7. CALCULUS CONVENTION - THIRD PRIZE
Ayush Mahapatra and Raj Nandini Singh XII C bagged the Third Prize in the event ‘Calculus Convention'.

8. FAST TRACK - SPECIAL PRIZE
Lakshay Sharma (IX C) bagged the Special Prize, in which he performed an experiment on the topic ‘ELECTROLYTE CHALLENGE’ and tested the number of electrolytes in drinks.

The winners were felicitated with trophies and certificates by our Principal, Ms. Inderpreet Kaur Ahluwalia and Vice Principal, Ms. Anie Benny.

St. Mark’s Senior Secondary Public School, Janakpuri hosted a Science and Maths Exhibition on July 22, 2023, with the theme of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The event was divided into various sub-themes such as Scientific activities related to SDGs, working models based on SDGs, Demonstrable Research papers related to SDGs, Aavishkar, Parivartan, and SDG Constructurama, Mathematical Board Games, Application of Maths in daily life, Mathematical Artistry, Geometry Unveiled, Mathematics and Technology, Mathematical Modelling, and Simulation.

The occasion was graced by the presence of our School Manager, Mr. Rahul Aggarwal, who encouraged the students to enhance their analytical abilities, critical thinking, and social skills. Our Principal, Ms. Inderpreet Kaur Ahluwalia, congratulated the students for their exceptional performance.

The exhibition witnessed the enthusiastic participation of students from Classes VI to XII, where young minds came together to celebrate the festival of Maths and Science, Innovation, and Design thinking. Students showcased various models like Solar cars, Charged Up - Electrochemical batteries, Lolliplants, Spiritual Flora, Amphibious Houses, Underground Farming, Maths in Multilevel parking, Fractal Mania, Cube Mural, Maths in Lithography, and more.

This insightful event aimed at promoting interest in Science and Technology, as well as highlighting the diverse applications of Maths in various fields. It provided an exploratory experience, encouraging critical thinking, ideation, and innovation among school students through self-designed models, thereby instilling a sense of pride within them. The efforts of the students were highly applauded by the judges and parents alike.

SCIENCE QUEST

Our school has always nurtured and fostered scientific endeavours. Keeping in view the recreational and empowering role Science plays in our life, different activities and competitions were organized for students of Classes VI to VIII. An Inter Section Story Telling Online CompetitionSpin a Yarn’ was conducted for the students of Class VI. The students beautifully narrated the stories on the topic like Ecosystem, Grasslands, Solar System, Rainbow, Earthquake, River, etc.

The results are as follows:An Online Science ExhibitionBackyard Science’ was also held for the students of Class VI on 16 July 2021, wherein the students showcased their working models on various scientific concepts as Li Fi Technology, setting up Home Theatre using smart phone, Solar Energy Irrigation, Electric Lift, Mini Air Cooler, Soil Erosion, Waste Water Treatment Plant, Water Fountain etc. Students not only prepared their working models but also explained the scientific principle behind them.

MATHS QUEST

Experience says learning mathematics can be made easier and enjoyable if our curriculum includes mathematical activities and games. Keeping this in mind, our school organized a Maths Quest Week for the students of Classes VI to XII. The essence of Maths is not to make simple things complicated, but to make complicated things simple. Class VI students played Mathematical Bingo, in which each player got an online bingo card in the beginning of the game. A question wise slide was displayed on the screen. Each player had to solve the question displayed and cross one of the squares on their card if their answer matched with the answer on any square of the card. The aim of the game was to enable students calculate faster and more accurately.

Another game played by Class VI students was Maze Runner, the aim of which was to solve problems based on order of operations. Each student was provided with an online maze in the beginning. The maze contained some questions which were displayed in the Class. Each question box was attached with some bridges to move to the next question. Students had to solve the questions and colour the correct answer bridge attached, to go to the next question. Students showed keen interest and were able to calculate faster and more accurately by the end of the activity.

Maths For Foodies was organised for the students of Class VII. The students creatively explained the various mathematical concepts such as Pi, Volume, Ratio and Proportion through selected food items and presented videos.

Mathsflix: a crossword puzzle was also played by Class VII students, as a part of the Maths Quest. The aim of the game was to complete the crossword using the various mathematical definitions and properties. Each student was provided with an online crossword in the beginning of the game. Clues were given to the students to fill the puzzle during the class. With the help of the clues, students completed the puzzle.

An activity named Boggle Maths was conducted for the students of Class VIII, wherein they had to make creative maths Boggle Boards and form a Magic Square of grid 4 × 4 using the four numbers of their Date of Birth. Then, for each number in the magic square so formed, the students had to write number sentences using different mathematical concepts. This activity built critical thinking skills in both, in-person and virtual learning environments.

Skillmaticsis a new age education brand that designs innovative and engaging learning resources, educational games and STEM products that enable children to understand mathematics all through the joy of play. As a part of Maths Quest, students of Class VIII showcased different concepts like Circle to Rectangle, Asphalt Mathracer, Pizza Pie Puzzle, Tangram, Flexible Hyperboroid, etc. through games.

To reinvent the education system and give students a break from traditional classroom learning, a Quiz was organized on Quizizz for students of Class XI. To revive the quiz culture in school, technology as a facilitator brought innovation to quizzes and ensured active participation among students. It encouraged students to look beyond their textual knowledge and think out of the box.

Cross Number Puzzle activity was organised for Class XII students. This Mathematical puzzle makes up an integral part of recreational mathematics. The puzzle provided students with a new effective method of consolidating Maths concepts that cover a broad spectrum of the curriculum. These games not only give understanding of a particular concept but also develop problem- solving, logical thinking, mental fluency, perseverance skills in them. Students actively participated and enjoyed solving the puzzles.

Maths Relay, as a fun educational challenge, was organized for the students of Class XII to test their problem-solving and teamwork skills. Four Teams viz., Aryabhatta, Chanakya, Einstein and Ramanujan consisting of four students each, were tested for their Maths skills. Students were geared up to experience the thrill and ‘Spirit of sports in Mathematics’. This enabled the students to comprehend the sequence of ‘on-screen and online activities’ while allowing the students to meet, explore and practice new concepts independently. The event was conceptualized keeping in view the latest CBSE guidelines and National Education Policy which also prepares the students for further admission tests in their selected degree courses.
