Children enjoyed a bright winter day amidst natural surroundings learning about local flora and fauna. |

The children of Earth Saviours Eco Club of St. Mark’s Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh went to CMS Vatavaran International Festival on 2 November, 2017 at Gandhi Smriti, Rajghat. The theme of the 2017 festival was ‘Conservation of Water’. The festival aimed to delve into issues of climate change and its interconnection with water. The students saw 3 documentaries - ‘The Garden’, ‘Aloha for Indo’ and ‘The Breadth of the Volcano’. Students were sensitized towards bio diversity, food and health, insecurity by means of exhibit, games and workshops. |

Members of the Earth Saviours Eco Club made organic Colours for Holi, using sandalwood, gram flour, turmeric and other organic material. Children understood the importance of using organic Colours, which do not harm the skin. They were told about the dangers of using chemical colours available in the market. They really enjoyed the colour making. |

20 students of Class X of St. Mark’s Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh alongwith teachers Ms. M. Parashar, Ms. A. Jain and Mr. V. Bhatt visited Earth Saviours Foundation, an NGO on 13 January, 2017. This NGO run by
Mr. Ravi Kalra serves abandoned senior citizens and both physically and mentally disabled people. The students and the teachers spent the day at the NGO, participated in theirLohri celebrations and helped in the community kitchen and Rangoli making. The students handed over cash contribution, quilts and eatables to the inmates of the NGO. |

23 students of Class VIII and IX of St. Mark’s Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh alongwith teachers Ms. S. Malik, Ms. M. Parashar, Mr. D. Kharola and Ms. Rooma visited Gurukul (an NGO run by Mr. Ravi Kalra which takes care of abandoned senior citizens many of them lacking mental stability) on 31 December, 2016. The students and the teachers spent quality time with the elderly and helped in the community kitchen as well as in the distribution of breakfast. Interaction with the elderly left many of the students teary – eyed and they pledged to visit the NGO again and respect all elderly persons. A beautiful afternoon came to an end with the students rendition of Hum Honge Kamyaab. The students also handed over dry rations like Atta, Sugar, tea leaves, pulses and packets of adult diapers. |

Members of the Earth Saviours Eco Club of St. Mark’s Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh had a tree plantation drive in SBI Nagar, Paschim Vihar on 14 July, 2016. They planted 50 saplings in the park. The members of RWA were also there to encourage the children. Children urged people to plant trees and become more environment friendly. |

The Earth Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm in St. Mark's Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera bagh on 22 April 2016. In tandem with the theme of the earth day this time, which was "trees for the earth", many events were planned for classes I to X accordingly, like enactment, poster and collage making, quiz, etc. Students presented a ballet depicting various elements of nature. Class V students took out a rally in the school’s neighbourhood and even presented a ‘nukkad naatak’ on ‘importance of saving water’ which was appreciated by one and all. There was a pledge taken in the assembly by St. Markians, that they will take care of mother earth and of the saplings planted by them on the very same day. Tree plantation on Earth Day, was school's small contribution to the larger motive of having 7.8 billion trees all across the world, that is roughly one tree for every person living on earth.

Like various other festivals ‘Holi’ that was ideally meant to celebrate the arrival of spring has unfortunately become commercialized and yet another source of environmental degradation.
To sensitize and make students aware about harmful effects of chemical colours, Earth Saviours Eco Club members of St. Mark’s Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh prepared natural colours using henna, turmeric, flour, rose powder, sandalwood powder, etc on 10 February, 2016. Students promised to play eco friendly holi and spread this message across. Balancing sustainability with tradition was also one of the agendas to avoid wasteful use of water instead play dry holi with natural colours and flowers. |

The park located at GG1, Vikas Puri, Delhi was renovated by The Earth SAVIOURS Eco Club of St. Mark’s Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh and inaugurated on 30 December 2015, by Vikaspuri Councillor, Ms. Amrita Dhawan and the Principal of St. Mark’s Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh, Ms. Anjali Aggarwal. It has been aptly named Madhuban, because of the number of flowering plants that it has and the butterflies and bees that it is attracting. Besides this new swings were installed and play area demarcated. There was a new compost pit made and rain shelter was repaired to the present condition. Another interesting feature of this project was the painting of the wall by our school kids. The residents are extremely grateful for the good work done and expressed their gratitude for the same. |

Students of St. Mark’s Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh participated in Panchtatva – An Environment Festival, organized by DPS, R.K. Puram, in the month of November. It was yet another program to sensitize the students towards their role in tackling global environmental challenges at grassroot level. Around 21 students participated in a variety of off site events that included photography, video-making, logo-designing, poetry writing and collage making. Our students also participated in the dance competition where they gave a performance on Elements of Nature. For the students it was a way to realize their responsibility towards earth. The participants of Green-o-tisement; Manas Mehta (IX G), Tushar Mohan (IX B), Riddhirup Bera (IX C) and Acchyut Jolly (IX F) won the third prize for making a video on green practices. |

Students of classes IX and X of St. Mark’s Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh along with their teachers, Ms. S. Chand and Ms. N. V. Punj attended a workshop on ‘Water Auditing’ at New Convention Centre on 9 October, 2015. The resource person Ms. Ranjita Menon, Programme Director - Environment Education, CSE effectively explained various techniques to conserve water. Students performed various activities. They also put up their exhibit, celebrating water festival. |

Pratishtha Verhwani (VIII C), a member of Earth Saviour's Eco Club of St. Mark’s Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh was selected for Tetra Pak Ambassador Programme 2014-2015, as a part of Project SEARCH. On 11th and 12th of November, 2014 she visited the recycling plant - Khatema Fibres in Rudrapur, Uttarakhand along with 11 more students from Delhi and Chandigarh. During her visit to the recycling plant, Pratishtha got to know more about Tetra Pak andgot an opportunity to interactwith the coordinators from TERI and Tetra Pak. She also visited the recycling plant and acquired more knowledge about recycling. As a Tetra Pak Ambassador,Pratishtha shall be leading others to make the Earth a better place to live. |

“A Healthy Mind Lives in a Healthy Body”. Keeping this in mind, “Global Hand Washing Day” was observed in
St. Mark’s Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh on 15 October, 2014. An attempt was made to sensitize students and staff towards importance of cleanliness and hand washing for prevention of infectious diseases. A talk was given during the assembly regarding the importance of hand washing and sanitation followed by a Oath Taking Ceremony for the students and staff. A power point presentation was shown on smart class in all the classes by their respective class teacher. |

A workshop on Waste Management was conducted by Mr. Niranjan Khatri, the General Manager, World Environs (ITC Welcome group of Hotels) for 45 teachers of all three branches of St. Mark’s School on Saturday, 9 August, 2014.
He discussed various ways to conserve water, electricity, hence reducing our carbon footprints. He quoted examples of several simple and practical practices which can be adopted such as bringing down the temperature of room by 70C by placing wet gunny bags on the roof, reducing the capacity of old flush system by putting water filled bottles in the cistern hence displacing water. Leaves and organic waste can be decomposed at home in big pots using mud.
Rightly said ‘Waste is a resource but at a wrong place’. It was an informative and an inspiring workshop.

A 'Tree Plantation Drive' was undertaken by 'Earth Saviours' - our Eco Club...
The children went for tree plantation in one of the nearby parks. The members of the Resident Welfare Association appreciated our initiative and extended total co operation. About 60 saplings of neem, sheesham, jamun and bahera were planted in the park.

The children of Earth’s Saviours Club participated in the “organic holi colours” making workshop on 18 February, 2014.
They made various colours with besan, turmeric, henna, dried flowers etc. Organic colours do not harm the skin unlike the synthetic available in the market. The colours made would be distributed free in the neighbourhood areas. |

Students of St. Mark’s Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh, attended CMS Vaatavaran Workshops from 31 January to 3 February 2014 at IGNCA Lawns. These workshops concentrated on International Environment and Wildlife Film Festival. The festival was a high visibility and large scale participation biodiversity event.
Through a kaleidoscope of films (more than 100), workshops, open forums contemporary discourses, exhibition, musical nights, spread across 5 lawns organized by ONGC, Japan, UNDP & GIZ. Our students saw various films and interacted with several environmentalists about eco-friendly products from the exhibition. It was a fun filled learning experience. |
Students of Earth Saviours Eco Club alongwith Ms.S.Kaur and Ms. M. Pathak of St. Mark's Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh, visited the Aravalli Biodiversity Park on 21 December 2013. This park is a man made forest, which used to be a mining site for making bricks. A lot of trees native to the city of Delhi have been planted in this region. As a result the bird population in the forest has increased. A lot of animals like the blue bull, jackals, rabbit and snakes are found in this region. Children were shown various herbs, shrubs, trees by the experts and told about their medicinal properties. They also learnt about the co-relation between the various organisms of the habitat. The trip was an amalgamation of pleasure and education for the students. Overall a fruitful visit ! |

20 students and 2 teachers of St. Mark’s Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh, participated in ‘Prakriti Sanrakshan Prayas’ Rally, organized by St. Mark’s Sr. Sec. Public School, Janakpuri, on 28 July 2013. The purpose of this rally was to create public awareness towards conservation of nature which is the need of the hour. There were guests from Ministry of Environment (Secretary, Bhagidari Scheme, New Delhi). |

Eminent Wild Life Photographer Dr. Sandip Sharma had a wonderful audience with the Earth Saviours Eco Club students of of St. Mark’s Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh, on 15 July 2013.
He gave a wonderful insight on the Ranthambore Wild Life Sanctuary and about the wild life in general. His talk was followed by a question answer session with the students, who asked a myriad of questions related to tigers, which Dr. Sharma answered enthusiastically.
It was a wonderful experience for the students who learnt some new amazing facts about tigers. |

On 5th July 2013 Eco Club students of St. Mark's Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh, went to Siri Fort with Mrs. Saranpreet and Mrs. Manisha Pathak for a Plantation Drive to celebrate Van Mahotsava which was organized by Center for Environment Education (CEE), in partnership with Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) for the school students at the Siri Fort. Along with the plantation drive the students were also given insights on the various aspects of ASI.
A small session on the Low Carbon Lifestyles and Protection and Conservation of the Biodiversity was also arranged for the students. The main aim of the event was raising awareness and sensitizing the school students, youth of India on various issues related to Environment and Indian Culture and Heritage.
The students first visited the Children’s Museum where they saw cultural heritage of India. After that students planted saplings and attended bird nest making workshop. |
The Earth Saviour Eco Club students of St. Mark's Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh, of classes VI, VII and VIII planted around 40 saplings in A-5 Community Park, as a part of Vanmahotsav programme. The children also took out a rally shouting slogans for planting more trees for a cleaner and greener earth. They were met with a lot of affirmative smiles from the local residents. |
Cheshta Kamran a student of class XI of St. Mark’s Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh, accompanied by Ms. M. Pathak went for a Leadership Development Programme for school students and teachers. It is an activity of the Project SEARCH sponsored by TERI.
The venue was “Wildernest Resorts” nestled in the majesty of Sahyadris. It is a UNESCO world Heritage Site and is one of the eight biodiversity hotspots of the world. The programme had many workshops taken by Ms. Supriya Singh and Ms. Taru Mehta. They learnt work though cooperation and various workshops to build leadership qualities. It was an amazing experience to share the workplace with so many people across India. |
MAIT (Manufacturers’ Association for Information Technology) launched an E-Waste Management initiative across the country under the theme “I am Green”. As a part of this they conducted many activities at St. Mark’s Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh, for difference classes.

The basic idea behind all these activities is to sensitize students towards the challenges of Electronic Waste and their disposal.

TERI organized the launch of Phase V Project Search Tetra Pack in Stein Auditorium, India Habitat Centre on 16 April 2013. There was prize distribution and the school which had collected maximum kilos of Tetra packs was awarded the prize. After it was the ‘Ranga Rang’ program where in 2 dances and a play was shown. Students were really inspired to collect tetra packs after they saw that furniture and other useful things were made out of it. They pledged to spread the message ahead. |
On 20 March 2013, to commemorate World Sparrow Day, members of Eco Club of St. Mark’s Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh, took a nature walk around the school. During the walk they saw the following birds - yellow footed Green Pigeon, red vented Bulbul, great grey Shrike, Ashy Prinia besides the very common rock Pigeons and Crows. The students were sad and surprised as they could not spot any sparrows, the reason of which could be lack of nesting places and the electromagnetic waves of mobile towers. Yet, the walk was a revelation for all the bird lovers. |

Four students and a teacher of St. Mark’s Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh, attended Annual Eco Club Meet cum Exhibition organized by Deptt. of Environment, on 13 February 2013 at Talkatora Stadium. There were stalls and exhibits displayed by the school children and NGOs depicting work done by Eco Clubs and organizations like TERI, CEE, Green Bandhu etc. for the environment to sensitize students towards the importance of using natural things and preserving natural resources. |
On 20 February 2013, students of St. Mark’s Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh, along with Eco Club Incharge, Ms. Manisha Pathak, attended a one day National Conference on Environment Education in Schools held at India Habitat Centre. Organized by Toxic Links in collaboration with N.C.E.R.T, the Conference saw the presence of Ms. Brid Coneelly, Director FEE, Denmark, Mr. Hem Pande, MOEF, Ms. Jaishree, N.C.E.R.T, Mr. B. K. Tripathi, N.C.E.R.T, Mr. P. S. Sodhi, C.E.E. Ms. Geeta Rajan, Global Coordinator, spoke about issues and challenges faced by educators regarding implementation of Environment Education in schools. Shivangi Arora, X A, also spoke about the challenges that she faces as a Green Ambassador of her school.
It was an enriching experience for the students and teachers of St. Mark's School as they could voice their opinion on the issue about which the whole school is passionate about. |
A seminar was organized by Blue Star at the ‘The Grand’ Vasant Kunj on 19 February 2013 on ‘Green Sustainable Buildings’ in which a talk was given by one of the most eminent architects Mr. Karan Grover. He talked about the importance of Heritage buildings and the perils of glass houses built by contemporary architects. These buildings increase the temperature inside, thereby increasing use of cooling equipments. Ms. M. Pathak and Ms. S. Kaur of St. Mark’s Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh, attended the workshop. |
Earth Saviours Eco Club members of St. Mark’s Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh, made herbal holi colours, using natural things like turmeric, gram flour, chandan powder, dried petals of rose and marigold etc. They were also told about the negative impact of chemical holi colours on the skin. |
As a part of sustaining green environment on earth, Earth Saviours Eco Club members of St. Mark’s Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh, did their small bit towards mother Earth. They collected old mobile phones and accessories related to mobile phones. Students were encouraged to bring old phones, which were handed over for recycling to Nokia as a part of the campaign “Planet ke rakhwale”. These phones will be recycled properly in the Chennai plant. This will prevent illegal recycling of waste which is hazardous for children, who are forcefully made to do that. |
30 children of Earth Saviours Eco Club accompanied by Mrs. S. Kaur and Mrs. M. Pathak. went to see the Art Exhibition on 2 February 2013 in Chinmaya Mission, Lodhi Road, Delhi. The topic of Art Exhibition was ‘Effect of Climate Change on Animals’. The paintings were done by African children who had beautifully depicted African and other animals discussing the effects of climate change. Children learnt about such a serious concept of global warming in a very light manner. The paintings were bright and very symbolic. The exhibition was sponsored by TERI and the Norwegian Embassy. |

Students of St. Mark’s Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh, collected 15 Kg. tetra packs and sent it to DLF Links for proper recycling. It may be noted that this collection was done by the active efforts of all the St. Markians. The school doesn’t have a canteen, so the students actually got them from their homes. It has been ingrained in their minds that proper disposal of tetra packs is necessary for a clean environment. |

Students of Eco Club of St. Mark's Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh, went for a tree plantation drive on 27.7.12. They planted saplings of semul, arjun, jamun and neem in a patch near Red Apartments, Tagore Garden. They urged people to save and conserve trees for a greener earth. The R.W.A. representatives interacted with the children and were very impressed by the sincere efforts of the school children. |

St. Mark's Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh, has partnered with Earth Sense for giving Electronic Waste for recycling. Earth Savior Club members actively collected the electronic waste from school students, teachers and from the electrician. Students brought a good amount of electronic waste. The first lot of e waste was collected from the school campus, by Earth Sense on 26 August 2011. |
St. Mark’s Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh is known for being eco friendly . . . in fact, it is proud to be a pioneer in this cause. The past few months have seen the school going completely Green. In April, the school celebrated Earth Day as Eco Vision 2011-towards a greener earth with many dignitaries visiting the school as part of the programme.
In May 2011, the school joined the Tree Plantation Drive organized by ENVIRONMENT ONLINE. The students headed by the Vice Principal Mrs. Veena Wahi planted a tree and pledged to help the country in growing forests.
June 2011 saw students of St. Mark’s Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh take their zeal and vigour beyond the school premises. They participated in a five day event-GREEN HAAT-Knowledge Park at Dille Haat from June 1 to June 5, 2011. This event was organized by The Ministry of Environment and Forests along with United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). It was co-organized by Centre of Environment Education (CEE).
The students not only participated in various activities such as Poster Making, Collage Making, Slogan Writing, Design a Stamp etc., but won many prizes too. Apart from participating and winning prizes, the students of SMS also held workshops wherein they taught the visitors to make lampshades, dustbins and other paper made products. They also held a quiz competition for the students from 28 schools which were participating in the event. A beautiful choreography dance was also staged by the students of St. Mark’s School, Meera Bagh. |

It was, indeed, an honour for the students as they were felicitated by the Hon’ble Minister Shri Jairam Ramesh, Mr. Achim Steiner, Executive Director, (UNEP), Mr. C. M. Bhatt and Mrs. Radha Ben Bhatt, noted Environmentalists at Hotel Ashok on 5 June 2011 on the occasion of World Environment Day.
The students of St. Mark’s Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh also got an opportunity to meet Ms. Caitlin Wiesen, Country Director, UNDP India and Mr. Satinder Bindra, Director, UNEP. They were privileged to shake hands with the dignitaries, talk to them about the work that the school is doing with regard to environment and also presented them with mementos (a model of a green earth designed exclusively by students) and a book RECIPES FOR A BETTER PLANET which is a collaborative effort of the school with schools from Azerbaijan, Costa Rica, France, Italy, Russia and the US. All the dignitaries were left spell bound with the kind of work SMS is doing and wished the school good luck for its future endevours.
The grand finale saw Mr. Sandeep Dixit, MP as the Chief Guest who was happy and proud to see the enthusiasm of the young brigade of the country. He gave a rousing speech inspiring everyone present at the occasion to join hands and work for the betterment of the planet. |

St. Mark’s Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh was invited by Environment online programme to join their Tree Plantation Movement on the 20th of May, 2011.
Since SMS has been a pioneer environment friendly school, it joined the movement with zeal and vigour. Six students from Class 11, Sanyam Jain 11C, Ravit Malik 11C, Nimrit Ahluwalia 11 C, Danish Girdhar 11H, Anvita Kapoor 11E, Pankit Arora 11 G and Amit Rajput 11 D designed and painted the banner for the event.
Vice Principal Mrs. Veena Wahi planted a tree to pledge support for the environment.Also present on the occasion were the eco club members along with the eco club Incharges Ms.Saranpreet and Ms.Manisha Pathak.

A group of 30 students of Eco Club of St. Mark’s Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh, along-with Ms. R. Verma and Mr. P. Kumar visited the house of Hon’ble Chief Minister of Delhi, Ms. Sheila Dikshit on 15.4.2011. The visit was highly informative as students learnt about the birds found only in Delhi and participated in games organized by wild life photographer Mr. Anivesh Kapoor. The students witnessed a “BAT Colony” and came to know about various uses e.g. Bat Saliva is used in anti-cancer vaccine. The Chief Minister Ms. Sheila Dikshit blessed the students and encouraged them to work whole heartedly towards the environment. |
A group of students of classes IX and XI accompanied by Ms. A. Vohra and Ms. M. Pathak of St. Mark's Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh, visited Yamuna Biodiversity Park on 21.3.2011. The Biodiversity Park is a cultivated forest with various kinds of plants, shrubs and trees grown in a specific area. There were many species of birds, butterflies and animals like mongoose and hare. They were given a guided tour by Ms. Naing. They observed migratory birds like large Cormonant, Kingfisher, Drongo, Primia etc. |
Snow Leopard Eco Club conducted a workshop for children in which they made Holi Colours with organic non harmful substances like besan, turmeric, henna, etc.
Children did various permutation and combinations and came up with different colours. The chemicals used in normal colours cause various problems of skin, eyes, etc. The ill effects of using synthetic colours were also discussed during the workshop. |

A team of 5 students and a teacher of St. Mark’s Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh, set up a stall of eco-friendly products at National Bal Bhawan on 10 December 2010. The Chief Guest on the occasion was the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Delhi Ms. Shiela Dixit. She was highly impressed with the products like paper bags, recycled papers, and various other products. |
On 9 July 2010, students of Snow Leopard Eco Club of St. Mark's Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh, alongwith the student delegates from Indonesia planted ‘neem’ saplings. This would serve as reminder of the student exchange programme. The student delegates were happy to see the medicinal garden, vermicomposting, aerobic composting and recycling unit.
On 16 July 2010 the Snow Leopard eco Club students went for tree plantation in the nearby areas of BG6, Paschim Vihar. Students took round of the colony and made the residents aware about tree plantation and saving of trees and earth. The Principal Ms.Anjali Aggarwal, spoke on the importance of trees. |
The members of Snow Leopard Eco Club of St. Mark’s Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh, went for a Nature Walk in the pristine surroundings of Teen Murti Bhawan. It was organized by Nehru Memorial Museum Library. Students were enthralled by the sheer variety of birds like Peacock, Barbet, Hornbill, Owl, Koel etc. in the lush green surroundings of the Bhawan. They were also told about the common names of the trees like Amaltas, Silk Cotton tree, Gulmohar etc. |
On 5 April 2010, as a part of the Earth Week, students of St. Mark's Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh, planted the medicinal plants at the front lawn of the school. Some of these plants were provided by the CEE (Centre for Environment Education) and some were made available by the Eco Club. |
