Parul Kataria, X-A, won the Excellence award in the Inter School Speech Competition organized by IOF (Delhi IITians) at Green Fields School, Sufdarjung Enclave, on 11 December. The topic for the speech was ‘Inspiring Speeches of Swami Vivekananda’.
Arise, awake, stop not. Weakness is death.
These motivational lines are spoken by the patriotic saint of modern India. The world knows him as an inspiring Hindu monk and Hindus consider him as a source of mental energy and spiritual power. He is non other than Swami Vivekananda.
Good morning today I Parul Kataria is going to speak on the topic'. The Inspiring speeches of Swami Vivekananda.
The year was 1893 and the date September 11. As he uttered his first words, the crowd responded with a thundering applause. As the speech began it was certainly one of the most exciting speeches ever made, much like Martin Luther King's 'I have a dream' or Kennedy's speech which asked you, "What you have done to your country?“ It was a speech of his own kind which said, “My dear Brothers and sisters of America. "An introduction which no one had. Many may say what new contribution did he make? Moreover the society today is much better than it used to be. His speeches are answers to them. For entrepreneurs he said, “Take up an idea. Make that one idea your entire life. Think of it, dream of it, make that one idea your entire life and just leave every other idea alone. This is the way to success. Once a British asked him, "Why don't you dress up like a gentleman?" Do you know what he said? He said, “In your culture dress makes a gentleman, in my culture character makes a gentleman. He taught us the 3 Ps namely patience, purity and perseverance. Today we see intolerance in our country but his religious beliefs can unite us all. He said, The Christian is not to become a Hindu or a Buddhist nor a Hindu or a Buddhist to become a Christian. But each must assimilate the spirit of the other and yet preserve his own individuality. Grow according to your law of growth.
I think it's impossible to talk about him in a speech of three minutes. I think it will take hours and hours to talk about him. My speech is incomplete without the following lines which are an inspiration to me and many others. 'We are responsible for what we are and whatever we wish ourselves to be we have the power to make ourselves. If what we are know is the result of our own past actions, it certainly follows that whatever we wish to be in future we have the power to make ourselves. So we need to know how to act.
Thank you. |
