The trick to having happy students, is to, first be happy yourself.

Teaching is such an intensive job and educators can greatly benefit from learning about and practicing self-care. Unfortunately, teachers may worry that taking care of themselves can lead to self-absorption and distract them from their students. However, despite the misleading title, self-care isn’t at all about selfishness.

To bridge this gap, St. Mark’s World School organised a workshop on Self care for educators and management of students emotions in post covid scenario. The resource persons Dr. Rajiv Anand - Senior Director, Department of Neuroscience, BLK Max Super Specialty Hospital and Psychologist Dr. Dinika Anand discussed issues related to student post covid-19 learning styles, online learning, post intensive care of students and fears and apprehensions about Covid-19. They highlighted the need to live with covid effectively and collectively. It was indeed a very informative workshop for all.

Directorate of Education, Govt of NCT of Delhi, organized live streaming of the webinar on the motivational interaction for the students of all schools. Ms. Sonalika Jiwani, District Magistrate, South District, Delhi presided as the motivational speaker and was interviewed by Mr. Himanshu Gupta, Director Education, Delhi Government on International Women’s Day, 8 March 2022. This was the fifth webcast session of the UPSC aspirations series.

The glimpses of small and enriching journey by Ms. Sonalika Jiwani in holding this enviable position was showcased at the outset of the session. She did her schooling from St. Thomas’ Girls Senior Secondary School, Mandir Marg.

After completing graduation in 2015, she started preparing for civil service exam which she cleared in the first attempt in the year 2016 by obtaining a 192 UPSC rank. Painting and Taekwondo are her few hobbies that keep her refreshed and help in breaking the monotony after work. Hobbies are must according to her as they can be looked after when one is tired and worn out.

It was a nostalgic moment for Ms. Sonalika Jiwani to address the gathering of school students with the message to them ‘to dream big’. For aspirants of UPSC, she suggested to focus on discipline, persistence, perseverance and keeping high spirits. “Everything is possible if done with the right spirit,” says she.

The trust of the parents on their children can evoke wonders and make the children head independently and responsibly in the right direction of building their career.

There were certain questions asked at the end of the session which were handled and answered contentedly. It was an inspiring interaction which beyond question made an indelible impact.

Attending this webinar helped our teachers to develop a better understanding of competency based education, as envisioned in the National Education Policy, 2020 and provided them with a platform from where they could share their feedback with CBSE. Such feedback ensures that the frameworks formulated by CBSE reflect the needs, abilities, and ground realities of educators and administrators.
