The Inauguration Ceremony of 9th Asia-Europe Classroom Network Conference of Principals and Teachers in Gurgaon
The Inauguration Ceremony of 9th Asia-Europe Classroom Network Conference of Principals and Teachers was held at The Lemon Tree Hotel, Gurgaon. The event was co-organised by Asia – Europe Foundation and St. Mark’s Senior Secondary School, Meera Bagh, supported by the Ministry of Human Resource Development. A total of over 90 delegates hailing from 30 regions of Asia and Europe attended the four day residential conference. St. Mark’s had also invited teachers from other Delhi schools like Apeejay, Green Fields, Vasant Valley and Springdales, to name a few.

Master Azad Singh, Deputy Mayor of Delhi was the chief guest for the occasion. He was felicitated by Mr. T. P. Aggarwal, Chairman St. Mark’s group of schools. Master Azad Singh extended his good wishes for the success of the conference and extended his congratulations to Ms. Anjali Aggarwal, Principal St. Mark’s Senior Secondary School, Meera Bagh, for successfully hosting this conference and getting so many educators from Asia and Europe under one confluence.

Mr. Zhang Hongtie, Director, People-to-People Exchange Asia Europe Foundation made a welcome speech during the opening ceremony. Combining the latest development in world education and the current situation of World Climate, Mr. Zhang Hongtie, elaborated proposals and ideas in regards to the theme of Climate Change and Biodiversity. He stressed on holding reforms and innovation of teaching methods in high regard as well as making further efforts in the strengthening of cooperation and exchange among teachers of Asia and Europe. He conveyed the fact that the conference had turned a new page and would play a significant role in the history of education in Asia and Europe.

Ms. Aarti Khosla, Senior Manager, Programme Communications and Campaigns, World Wildlife Fund in India was a keynote speaker and spoke about – How does the impact on climate change affect the biodiversity loss? Another speaker from Philippines Mr. Rolando A. Inciong, Head of Communications and Public Affairs, ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity spoke on the topic- What can be done to help ease or prevent biodiversity loss through the schools in Asia and Europe?

Later all teachers and Heads of schools shared the fruits of the group discussions at the end of the opening sessions.

They discussed how climate change and biodiversity are connected and the impact biodiversity loss will have in the community in Asia and Europe. Relevant questions were asked to the speakers who guided the teachers and emphasised their role as guiding light to save the earth.
St. Mark’s Senior Secondary School, Meera Bagh, is the sole school from India who is the member of AEC-NET and is indeed very privileged to hold this conference, the first of its kind in India.
