At St. Mark's World School, we understand that Yoga is the ultimate practice. It simultaneously stimulates our inner light and quietens our overactive minds.

Yoga Utsava has thus become an annual ritual at our school, wherein we seek to provide young students with a coveted platform, from where not only do they get a chance to put forth their prowess in yoga, but also get an opportunity to delve deeper into their consciousness . Yog Utsav 2023 witnessed participation from various prestigious schools from all over Delhi. The inaugural ceremony of the event on 18 October 2023 began with the presentation of enchanting glimpses of Yog Utsav from the bygone years and was followed by soulful dance performances on Sanskrit hymns that express one's longing for light, knowledge and wisdom. The Chairperson of our school, Ms. Anjali Aggarwal Ma'am extended a warm welcome to the distinguished judges and enthusiastic participants, and shared with the gathering her personal experience with yoga that has only deepened her faith in the benefits of making yoga a part of one's daily life. The Chief Guest of the day, Dr. Vikram Singh, Director - Physical Education, Jawahar Lal Nehru University and our Chief Judge, Ms. Neeva Singh, Convenor - Yogasanas Sports, Government of India graced the occasion with their benign presence and encouraged the students to practice Yoga in order to deal with the modern day chaotic and stressful life. Thereafter, participants from various schools competed against each other in the individual and group categories to showcase their prowess in Yoga. During the multi-faceted competitive events, one could see competitors pushing their limits, transcending boundaries, and showcasing their skills with grace and determination. Each participant added to the tapestry of success, and for that, deserved the utmost admiration. As the day drew to an end, it was time to honour the exceptional performers. Our Principal Ms. Sheena Kalenga Ma'am and our Vice Principal Dr. Sabina Shergill Ma'am, along with the judges of the respective events, felicitated the prize winners with medals and trophies. The Overall Champions Trophy was bagged by St. Mark's World School but being the host school, we graciously passed the coveted trophy to the next best performing school i.e. S.D. Public School. The first runner-up position was awarded to St. Xavier's School and the second runner-up position was bagged by Aadharshila Vidyapeeth.

It was indeed a remarkable event, leaving all who participated in it with fond memories, new found friendships as well as the inspiration to make yoga an integral part of our lives. We at SMWS can state with conviction that these experiences shall fuel our students' determination to strive for even greater heights in the future.

It aimed to provide a platform for students to showcase their prowess by engaging in four events, namely, Policy Pitch-Off, Money Militia, Marketing Wizardry, and Mock Stock. Money Militia took its participants to a world with twists and turns of monopoly, the key to its victory lies in the hands of those who are capable of deciphering their rivals’ strategies and manoeuvres. Each participant had to use witty tactics to play games based on their knowledge of economics and business in order to emerge victorious.

Marketing Wizardry, teams of two were on the spot assigned products and given the task of creating a market plan to secure a loan from a lender. They had to present this to a panel of industry experts including, Dr. Vikas Vijay who is an International Author of Together with Books for Accountancy and Business Studies, Motivational Speaker, Success Coach and Founder & CEO of Full Marks ® Education Research and Assessment Institute with the experience of more than 25 years joining him was Mr. Ashu Diwan who is an experienced Entrepreneur and a Marketing & Career Guidance Professional. “Yoga is the journey of the self, through the self, to the self". - The Bhagavad Gita.

The holistic approach to health and well-being provided by the practice of Yoga has been pertinent from time immemorial and is critical now more than ever as the current pandemic has disrupted lives, created loneliness, and has led to anxiety. Yoga is the mystic blend of tradition and innovation and through the innovative environment of today's classrooms, we can take the tradition of Yoga to the younger generations. In our relentless pursuit to propagate Yoga and help make it an integral part of a student's life, we organize YOG UTSAV every year. YOG UTSAV 2021 witnessed participation from various states all across India and was the school’s very first celebration since its transition from St. Mark’s Girls Sr. Sec. School to St. Mark’s World School. The inaugural ceremony on 23 December 2021 began with the presentation of a soulful dance performance followed by glimpses of YOG UTSAV in the bygone years. The chief guest of the day Dr. Vikram Singh, Assistant Director of Physical Education, Jawahar Lal Nehru University graced the occasion with his benign presence and encouraged our students to practice Yoga to deal with the modern-day chaotic and stressful life. The school Principal Ms. Sheena Kalenga also stressed the urgent need of promoting and practicing Yoga to control the wandering mind and bring solace to the soul. Thereafter, participants from various schools competed with each other in the individual and group categories to showcase their Yoga skills.

The virtual interschool competition was distinctively categorized namely Yoga Mantra, Individual Yogasana, Artistic Solo and Surya Namaskar.

In Category I, Yoga Mantra Competition, the students of Classes I and II articulately chanted two shlokas. The event was adjudged by a galaxy of experts including Ms. Damini Bhardwaj, CEO of Delhi Yoga Studio, Mr. Manoj Mishra, Joint Secretary Technical of Uttar Pradesh, Yoga Sports Association, Delhi, and Mr. Neeraj Sharma, Yoga Trainer in the University of Delhi.

For centuries, people from all civilizations have offered prayers to the sun - the ultimate source of life and energy. One such practice is the yogic sequence of Surya Namaskar.

In Category II, Surya Namaskar Competition was organized for Classes III to V wherein the students from various schools all across India showcased the perfect poster of Surya Namaskar.

The judges for the event were Ms. Varsha, who has won seven gold medals in the School Games Federation of India, Mr. Lalit Bhoj, joint secretary of north west district Yog Asana Sports Association of India and Ms. Daizee Patel, a district member of Yog Asana Sports Association of Delhi. The event witnessed a remarkable exhibition of the Surya Namaskar by all the participants who competed with great zest and zeal.

In Category III, Individual Yogasana Competition was organized for Classes VI to VIII, wherein a total of five Asanas were performed by each participant. This event was also adjudged by Ms. Daizee Patel and Lalit Bhoj.

Artistic Yoga is a unique approach to yoga, as it uses yogic techniques but is based on the modern science of fitness and sports medicine. Artistic yoga is challenging and intense. It focuses on targeted muscle groups therefore gives you results like rapid weight loss, increased energy levels and more power which yoga normally does not focus on. The Artistic Solo Competition, Category IV was also organized for Class VI to VIII. It consisted of a presentation of various Asanas including forward and backward bending, handing hand balancing posters sitting postures, twisting and leg balancing. This event was also adjudged by Ms. Varsha and Mr. Manoj Mishra.

Technology is how we create wealth, how we cure diseases, how we'll build an environment that's sustainable and also gives people the capacity to pull more out of this world and still leave it better than when they found it,” as is rightly put by Dean Lawrence Kamen, an American engineer and inventor of iBOT.

Keeping this in mind, we organized an inter-school competitionDigitize to Nurture the Nature’ for Class XI students, under the aegis of ‘SMILE 2021’. The event helped to sensitize the students about the necessity of environmental remediation, digitally. Students from different schools across Delhi actively participated in the competition as they built ‘apps’ that shed light on environmental deterioration and ways to restore it. Our esteemed judge, Ms. Ankita Chopra, a software engineer at The Times of India, appreciated the ingenuity and innovation that clearly reflected in the apps designed by our young minds.
