"We all can make a difference in others lives in need, because it is the most simple of gestures that makes significant differences"
Diwali is an auspicious Hindu festival which celebrates the victory of good over evil. Thus, signifying light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance and hope over despair. Spreading happiness around and being a part of the noble cause, our school in collaboration with HCRA ("Handicapped Children Rehabilitation Association"), a charitable organisation, organised a Diwali Stall on 2nd, 3rd and 5th November 2018, showcasing beautiful pieces handcrafted by special children as a part of the vocational training along with special education. A small contribution from our school students to spread smiles, care and joy with these special children and support them exemplified that we rise by lifting others. |

Old age is often called the second choldhood. The immense joy on thier faces while they spoke thier heart out indeed showed it. By sharing their stories they could forget at least for the time being that they are not around their loved ones.
It was an emotional experience for all of us. Children came out with a smile on their faces, tears in their eyes and a different perspective towards the society and their role towards it. |

Cleanliness is next to godliness. It is must or the world will rust. Our Prime Minister dreamt of a clean India. He launched the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan to make his dream come true. Realising how important each one of ours contribution is, the students of St. Mark's Girls Sr. Sec. School are always ready to put their foot forward in doing their bit.
To sensitize others about their duties, our school organised a 'Cleanliness Drive' for various classes. Our eco - enthusiasts were taken in the vicinity of the school to put their hand forward in cleaning the environment. With broom sticks and posters in their hands students marched on the roads and shouldered the responsibility. With this small endeavour of the students, the people were encouraged to keep their surroundings clean. |
A kind gesture can reach a wound that only compassion can heal ........

So, to initiate it, our school joined GOONJ for RAHAT FLOODS. Students and teachers of our school donated all necessary and urgent requirements for millions of flood affected people. Students enthusiastically did the contribution and made it a success as our school was able to provide most of the EWS students with their needs. |
As the drought in Maharashtra reached to its peak , Goonj, an NGO with the aim of bringing change with every small effort, organized a campaign where they asked schools to contribute materials useful for people suffering from drought . our students contributed by providing things like utensils, shoes, umbrellas, water bottles etc. Such acts provide students with a sense of contribution towards the society and help them understand that we as humans should be ready to help in everyone’s need. |

The students of St. Mark's Girls Sr. Sec. School went to SOS children’s village : a loving home for every child which was like a paradise for the orphans!! But, actually we should not call them as ‘orphans ‘as each of them has a mother to take care of them. There were total 20 family houses for all the children. In each house there are 8 to 10 children and there’s a mother who take care of them like a real mother. The SOS Children’s Village was founded by Dr. Harman Minor. It was first founded in Austria and then in Greenfields (FATHIABAD) India. After Second World War many kids lost their parents. So, Dr. Harman Minor was the one who gathered all the children in one house and his sister took care of all of them.Dr. Harman Minor’s sister was the first mother of the SOS Children’s Village. The children who did not have parental care are sent to this place for a long term care. The mothers take care of children till 25 years and then the SOS Children’s Village arrange for their marriage also. They provide all the children with the best educaton and financial support also. Though, they didn’t have real parents but there not a single child sad there! Everyone had a sweet smile on their face! That was the most heart touching moment!! It was indeed a learning experience for the students. |

“What we have done for ourselves alone dies with us; what we have done for others and the world remains and is immortal.”-Albert Pike
The homeless and destitute in Delhi have been suffering severely because of the biting cold. Our school’s eco club-kesholoy, in association with HT Pace, lent a helping hand to the underprivileged by donating old sweaters so as to protect them from the harshness of severe winters. This philanthropic campaign by Ezee was supported by our school not only to help the impecunious people but also to educate students about the ‘joy of giving’. |

“Small Acts, When Multiplied By Millions Of People, Can Transform The World“
Students of St. Mark’s Girls Sr. Sec. School headed to Tiruchirappalli and Kanniyakumari, Tamil Nadu from 9 to 18 October 2015, to engage in community service. Thirteen students of Class 10 accompanied by teachers Ms. Anjali Handa and Ms. Meenu Khurana visited Cornerstone Children’s Home in Tiruchirappalli, and various rural Catholic schools viz, St. Joseph’s High School (Kallikulam) and St. Mary’s High School (Colachel), enroute to Kanniyakumari. It was an enlightening experience for all the students.
The students and teachers stayed at Cornerstone Children’s Home run by Mr. Isaac Arulappan, the founder of DKSHA (Deva Kirubai Social Help Association). Our students gave the children, lessons on the Hindi language, which they were eager to learn. Activities, such as collage-making, were also conducted in groups. In return, our students learnt phrases in Tamil, and the traditional art of making garlands and Kolam (rangoli from rice powder) from the children of Cornerstone Home. Students, guided by the teachers, also participated in a tree plantation programme in Manapparai. Our students participated in various sports activities too with the children of the Cornerstone Home. A vivid exchange of culture was an eye opening affair for all students, making the atmosphere lively and welcoming.
Besides being involved in social responsibility, students also jaunted through Kanniyakumari along with Dr. Adrian Elangovan. They were taken to churches like Our Lady of Snow and Vivekananda Rock Memorial. The visit to the pristine Muttom Beach near Nagercoil with Father Gerald was a treat to the eyes. Our students went sightseeing to the Rockfort Temple, Padmanabhapuram Palace, Colachel fish harbour and Kovalam beach in Kerala. The students also visited a fish processing unit in Colachel where they interacted with the localities on their sundry routines.
The excursion was a mind altering experience for our students where they not only realised their social responsibility as privileged citizens of the society, but were also exposed to a culture entirely different from their own. In addition, the hospitality of the people and the serenity of the place made the excursion totally worth remembering. |
"When you do it right,Social work is a feeling that is larger than your own life."
Very rightly said and these words were brought to live demonstration as the students of St. Mark's Girls Sr. Sec. School of III, IV and V class collected ek muthi anaaj (grains, potato and onions) and went to Akhil Bhartiya Netrahin Sangh - a residential school and training centre for the Blind at Raghubir Nagar, Delhi to donate the things collected. The students were taken around the school where they saw Braille books and how the students used them for reading, Braille or German board for writing. They visited Computer Room where training was imparted by a talking software, (JAWS). The students of IV & V class sang "AASHAYEN" song for the Blind students. Compassion and Kindness were the key words for the students who learnt how to empathize and extend a helping hand to the ñeedy. A short siesta spent also instilled a gleam of hope in the vision that has eloped in darkness forever. |

The students of classes VII and VIII were taken to the kitchen garden of St. Mark's Girls Sr. Sec. School to plant coriander, radish and fenugreek as part of Navdanya.

When the earthquake shook Earth, the tectonic plates shifted, moved and devastated a small country, next to India - NEPAL. In the massive loss of life and property a country struggled to find a strong hold for itself. But destruction and calamity had overtaken the pristine beauty of the country. Over all there was death, devastation and debris lying to be cleared. A nation lost, broken and collapsed.
But being humans, the country was given help from all over the world. St. Mark’s Girls Senior Secondary School, Meera Bagh also joined hands with Goonj in this philanthropic act. Students were sensitized about this need of hour. The teachers as well as students donated cash and kind generously for the cause. |

“Blessed are those who have the elderly with them”, goes an old saying.
To sensitise the children of today to develop empathy towards this neglected segment of society St. Mark’s Girls Senior Secondary School, Meerabagh organized a visit to an Old Age Home, Nirmal Hriday. A group of 25 students of class V along with two teachers visited the above mentioned Old Age Home on 10 March 2015, Tuesday. For the students and teachers it was a heart wrenching experience to find the elderly who once were the care taker of several lives and a support system for their families, today in their adverse times were left to fend for themselves at the mercy of an NGO.
The students were taken around the premises of the organization where they got to acquaint themselves with the whereabouts of the Old Age Home. They visited all the rooms which comprised of the common Dining Area, Prayer Room, the Dormitory and the Recreation Area.
Students participated in an interactive session with the residents of the Old Age Home. The recreational time was thoroughly enjoyed by the students as well as the residents. They had quality time singing devotional songs, playing jenga locks and sharing each other’s experiences. The entire endeavor all together become a holistic experience for all when the students distributed among them certain daily utility items like flour, hand washes, detergents, biscuits, soaps, etc. They were showered with blessings of a better future.
The students came back from the Old Age Home a little more sensitive, a little more empathetic, a little more concerned and aware about this social stigma prevailing in our society which terms the elderly as an outcast who are simply ousted from the lives of their loved ones because they have become old.
Hence the visit really made the students realise and relate to this viciously horrible side of our so called civilized society. These students became aware of the needs of these elderly people and finally made a decision to strive hard to uplift this class of society. |

Goonj has been talking about Winters as an annual disaster for people who don’t have enough to cover. They firmly believe that 'Cold doesn't kill people, lack of clothing does'.
They have initiated the ‘ओढ़ा दो ज़िनदगी ' ( Odha Do Zindagi ) campaign in creating awareness on the issue and giving blankets and woolens. They reach out these to people on city roads but more urgently to the villages, with dignity, as people work for their own community issues and get the same.
With this concern in mind, students and teachers of St. Mark’s Girls Sr. Sec. School joined the 'Odha Do Zindagi' campaign with Goonj and donated clothes generously for people who don’t have enough to cover. |

No one has yet fully realized the wealth of sympathy, kindness and generosity hidden in the soul of a child. The effort of every true education should be to unlock that treasure. It is our endeavour to nurture the young saplings who never got the opportunity to learn about the world of words. Keeping this in mind, our school has initiated Project UDAAN in which basic education is being provided to the underprivileged children of the society. The children who never got the opportunity to study in a school are covered under this project. Giving wings to their imagination, some teachers and students of St Mark’s Girls Sr Sec School are teaching the children of Jwalapuri Camp No. 5 who are in the age group of 6-13 years. It is an ongoing project through which we hope to make a change in the life of these children. |

Our students of the project ECO HEROES and some other Eco Club students of our school, visited a LEPROSY HOME on 12 April, 2014 to meet the people suffering from this contagious disease. There were about 250 patients in the home, loved and taken care of by the sisters of Missionaries of Charity. "Nothing brings more happiness than trying to help the vulnerable in a society"
The holy place of Odisha was recently ripped out and washed apart by Phailan, the cyclone that struck odisha and caused great devastation, leaving thousands of people homeless. Without any provisions in this biting cold the natives of this abode are suffering slowly and deeply. Our school's Eco-club, Kesholoy recenty took an initiative and lent a helping hand to the victims through Goonj - an NGO on 27 December 2013 by providing them with warm clothes that will help them overcome grievous times |
These are lines said by a wise man… and were reflected on the faces of the senior citizens of SaiVridh Ashram, which was visited by the students of St. Mark’s Girls Sr. Sec. School on 13 July 2013. The students noticed that the elderly there are ALONE because they have either lost all their loved ones or have been abandoned by them. This realisation brought tears to their eyes yet they hid them with their smiles not wishing to de-motivate their new friends. The girls had taken with them a few snacks such as biscuits and frooties contributed by the VIII standard of the school as tokens of love. This little treat brought smiles on everyone’s face. Our girls interacted with their new friends for over two hours who shared with them their life experiences. This interaction enabled the girls to add to their knowledge and gave great pleasure to the elderly. The girls realised that the best gift that we can give to anyone is our time. When it was time for the girls to leave the Old Age Home, our girls bid goodbye to their dear friends comforted with the knowledge that they had formed a family of their own at their new home-they realised that the old are able to sit next to one another and not say anything and still feel content. |

An opportunity was given to the students of St. Mark’s Girls Sr. Sec. School to visit ‘Goonj (an NGO)’ with their teachers. There they learnt about some of the initiatives taken by the members of Goonj in favour of the poor and needy. Some of their initiatives are: SCHOOL TO SCHOOL (S2S), RAHAT, NOT JUST A PIECE OF CLOTH and CLOTHES FOR WORK. Goonj is not simply into collection & distribution of clothes rather it is turning old material into a huge development resource like spinning gold from waste. It is an NGO, a voice; an effort that provides amenities for India’s so called impoverished millions. It distributes the right thing to the suitable person in need. This visit further sensitized the students towards the poor and made a heartfelt appeal to them to be mindful of the unused/surplus clothing taking space in their closet right now which could be a treasure for someone in need. They pledged to contribute as many things as possible to Goonj and also create awareness about its initiatives. |
Look at the sky, then around the trees… and what you’ll see is beauty all over.
Now, look at the ground and the surroundings around… and what you’ll see is litter all over. |
|
Market places, local parks, bus stands or even outside your own home- there isn’t a single place left that one could call spotless. Are we so addicted to littering around that it’s become our everyday routine? Our ostentatious attitude of practising cleanliness under the garb of littering is what characterizes most of us today.
Littering is now a common problem faced throughout the country. Although each one of us wants to live in a healthy and clean environment, the present scenario reflects a contrasting picture. Therefore, the students of classes VII and VIII of St. Mark's Girls Sr. Sec. School took an initiative towards a cleaner Delhi and took out a rally with an aim to spread awareness among people about the ill-effects of littering on the 17th of April, 2013 near GH-5, GH-6 and GH-7 in Paschim Vihar. The students used placards that displayed inspiring slogans like "DON'T THROW IT AWAY, IT CAN BE USED IN SOME OTHER WAY", "CLEAN AND GREEN IS OUR FUTURE DREAM", "LOOK AROUND WALK AROUND, BREATHE CLEAN AIR, DON'T LITTER THE GROUND", etc to discourage people from littering the roads. Moreover, they encouraged the students of their school to keep the roads clean by refraining from littering the streets as that spoils the beauty of our country. |
An interactive session on community service was organized in our school by Mr. Gurpreet, the resource person associated with the 2012 Pramerica spirit of community awards. This organization of school children engaged in voluntary community service and holding them up as role models for all young Indians. Our school children enthusiastically appreciated the efforts of this US based financial company and supported the community service campaign by filling up the application forms given by the organization. |

Pratibimb is an initiative taken by the NGO, 'GOONJ', to get the urban children to learn important things about rural India-the India they have never seen. A team of 8 students from the school participated in a two-day interactive programme organized by Goonj at Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Smriti near Rajghat in New Delhi.
They were accompanied by their teachers Ms. Charu Kohli and Ms. Jyoti Gulati. On the first day, the children of rural and urban schools sat in mixed group. Group exercises and games helped to break the ice and soon the students started conversing like old friends. There were about three hundred children from Assam, Bihar, Bengal, Kerala, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Uttranchal, Orissa, Ahmedabad and New Delhi. The students from rural India presented folk dances and songs and got a roaring response from the audience. The students analysed common problems faced by rural and urban India. It involved presentations given by a group comprising of rural and urban children. The students of our school together with the students of Gram Vikas Parishad, Bihar prepared a small skit depicting the practice of child labour in some parts of India for which they bagged the first position. The event proved to be a valuable experience for the students that opened new vistas of knowledge.
