Students of Class IX presented a series of plays on the theme Thriller - (29 November 2018)

Movies will make you famous,
Television will make you rich,
but Theatre will make you good.

To help our students learn about life through the world of stage and theatre, the pupils of class IX were given an opportunity to present their class plays on the theme - Thrillers. This opportunity to explore the world through theatre was well utilised by the students who put forth plays that had the audience on the edge of their seats. Plays such as Hide and Seek, The Swastik Contest, Parivartan and Satyanveshi left the audience guessing as to who had committed the crime in question and how. The performances of the budding actors left the audience yearning for more and they were thus applauded by all.

Plays by Class VII - (November 2018)

“Great theatre is about challenging how we think and encouraging us to fantasize about a world we aspire to”.

Drama lies in extreme exaggeration of the feelings, an exaggeration that dislocates flat everyday reality. SMGS organized Class VII plays, highlighting the essence of Drama and its creativity. Students enthusiastically participated in showcasing their brilliant skill of acting. There were varied plays namely, The Fourth Wall, Lucy’s Adventure, Taj Mahal ka Tender, Dansfield Art Society, and Willy Wonka, his Chocolate Factory. It was a crowd-pleasing display of creativity, imagination and reality in society. The subject and the tone of the plays involved different kinds of modulations with a musical extravaganza that proved to be an asset to the progression of the plays. The joy and warmth that came from the performers was truly praised by the audience. The plays were intertwined with very heart wrenching and ironic moments infused with entertainment. Every face in the audience was draught with emotions of joy, laughter, and warmth. Overall, the plays were quite powerful in bringing out the numerous flushes of imaginations and fancies relating to the society as well.

Play by Class V - (October 2018)

Stage is an essence of life and it is so much more real than life itself”.

Our school organized an enthralling event of Play Enactment wherein the students of Class V enthusiastically participated and showcased their talent. The plays closely assisted the audience to indulge themselves into realities of life as well as took them on a comic ride to the world of imagination. The students performed with an absolute zeal and confidence on plays such as 'Niwit Nadir', 'The Tale of Hastapur', 'Educating Radhika', 'The Brave Tailor' and 'School Inspection'. It was a highly enchanting spectrum of such great acting, enactment, emotions and expressions all together. The event not only helped students to open up and voice their hidden talents but it also enabled them to apprehend the elements of theatre as a whole. Our Principal Ms. Sheena Kalenga proposed the vote of thanks and appreciated the efforts put in by the students and teachers.

Character Dramatization Competition by Class III - (8 August 2018)

“The most exciting acting tends to happen in roles you never thought of you could play”.

Theatre is a mode of expression, a medium to reflect talents of young ones. Theatre gives you the wings. It takes out the best in you. Keeping this in mind, a ‘Character Dramatization Competition’ was organised on 8 August, 2018 wherein the students of Class III set the stage on fire with their rocking performances. They were dressed as various characters. The event gave an opportunity to the students to showcase their hidden talent and exposure to face the world with a smile.

Plays by Class VI - (6 August 2018)

Oscar Wilde has rightly stated that theatre acts the greatest of all art forms, the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being.

SMGS organized an event of theatrical plays showcased by the students of Class VI on 8 August 8, 2018. The theme of the stage drama was the depiction of famous proverbs in a Hindi script. The parents were called to witness the Proverbial dramatizations. All the classes were provided with varied proverbs like Jaisi karni Waisi Bharni, Bandar Kya Jane Adrak Ka Swad, Ab Pachtai Hot Kya Jab Chidiya Chug Gayi Khet, Jiski Lathi Uski Bhains, Chor Ki Darri Mei Tinka and Doodh Ka Doodh; Pani Ka Pani. This event was organized to bring forth the immense talent in the girls of our school. They showcased the versatile characters and thrilled the audience with their brilliant performances. The theatrical extravaganza came to an end with an address by the Vice Principal, Ms. Shergill who gave a vote of thanks to all the parents for their unstinted support and cooperation in making such an endeavor possible and also applauded the sincere efforts of the students and the teachers.

Inter Class Play Competition by Classes I and II - (13 December 2017)

The fascinating world of fairy tales came alive in St. Mark's Girls Sr. Sec. School on 13 December 2017 when the students of Classes I and II participated in Interclass Play Competition. The students of Class I enacted the story of The Pied Piper of Hamlin and Class II performed on the tales of Jack and the Beanstalk and The Jungle Book. The audience and judges were enthralled by the captivating performances of the students. The students looked ravishing in their colourful costumes. The participants were filled with euphoria when our esteemed judges Ms. Swapana Dutta and Ms. Mouli Soni announced the names of the winners.

The winners were:

Best actor - Ritika (I-C).

Best actor in negative role- Kaashvi Rewaria (II -C).

Best actor in comic role - Kashvi Gupta (II- D).

Best narrator - Saanvi Gupta (II - C).

Best Play - The Jungle Book.

Theatre Play by Class VIII - (8 November 2017)

‘Theatre is a mirror, a sharp reflection of society.’

SMGS organized a theatrical programme for students of Class VIII. Theatre encourages students to express their thoughts, ideas and expressions through skillful acts. Our students rolled the stage with their dramatization on the satirical form of theatre. Satire is a form of art that intends to improve humanity by criticizing its follies. Students performed exultingly with an amalgamation of natural acting, music and great dialogue delivery. Overall, the plays left the audience spell bound and the event was a huge success.

Play by Class X - (31 October 2017)

Theatres are curious places, magician's trick boxes where golden memories of dramatic triumph lingers and where the inexplicable, the fantastic, the tragic, the comic and the absurd are all routine occurrences. We witnessed an enthusiastic admiration of the Bard as the young budding actors of class 10 presented plays based on great works of Shakespeare. Class 10 presented their play 'Rajneeti' - a Hindi adaptation of Macbeth whereas class 10 B helped the audience navigate their way to love through their play based on Much Ado About Nothing. The event concluded with the performance of class 10 C wherein they attempted to showcase the tale of unrequited love based on Twelfth Night. Our Principal Ms. Sheena Kalenga applauded the efforts of the students and teachers and congratulated the participants for their exemplary performance.

Plays by Class VI - (12 October 2017)

St. Mark's Girls Sr. Sec. School, Meera Bagh has always given a platform to its students to blossom their talents. One such platform was recently laid down for the students of Class VI for showing their skills in theatrics during the Inter Class Play Event on 12 October 2017. The Inter-class play event was organized to bring to the fore the immense talent in the girls of our school who showcased with aplomb the versatile characters and thrilled the audience with their brilliant performances. The plays closely associated the audience to indulge themselves into realities of life as well as into a comic ride into the world of imagination. The plays were entitled as Baccho ki Adalat, Karamaat Admi Ki, Gappi Biwi, Bhola Ram Ka Jeev, Prayashit, Doodiyo Ka Interview.

The theatrical extravaganza concluded with an address by the Principal, Ms. Sheena who gave a vote of thanks to all the parents for their unstinted support and cooperation in making such endeavors possible and applauded the sincere efforts of the students and the teachers.

The event came to an end with a great promise and hope to present many such events in the future.

26th Vasant Valley Drama Festival - (August 2017)

The theatre is so endlessly fascinating because its so accidental. It's so much like life.

A team of 14 budding actors represented our school in the 26th Vasant Valley School Drama Festival held at the Air Force Auditorium, Subroto Park, Delhi. This year's theme for the festival was 'Lost and Found' and our students presented a play wherein they exhibited man's eternal pursuit of happiness. This non competitive event witnessed participation of 17 schools. The performances were applauded by the August gathering and the students were awarded with the certificates of participation.

Street Plays - (August 2017)

Theatre is the greatest of all art forms, the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being; and street play is one such most popular and widespread forms of drama which enlightens and awakens the society. With the same perspective the students of Class IX presented street plays on 'Juvenile Crime'. Issues such as bullying, stalking, cyber bullying, rape, murder, addiction to drugs and alcohol, acid attack sensitised the audience and left them to ponder as to where our society is heading. These street plays were applauded by the Principal as well as the audience.

Plays by Class VIII - (December 2016)

Theatres are curious places, magicians trick boxes where the golden memories of dramatic triumphs linger like nostalgic ghosts.

Class VIII as a part of Dramatics Week, presented Hindi plays on the theme 'Samay' (Time). A box of hidden talents unfolded as the plays progressed. The plays Bakri, Babaji Ki Buti, Niyati, Chidiya Chug Gaee Khet and Laparwah Billoo; which revolved around political satire, superstition, etc, beautifully integrated the theme. The truly amazing plays left the audience mesmerized and yearning for more. The event was undoubtedly an opportunity for our participants to showcase their talents and help the audience reminisce an enjoyable collection of plays. The efforts of the students and teachers was applauded by our Vice Principal.

Thriller Plays by Class X - (December 2016)

In the Dramatics Week organized at our school, the students of Class X dramatized thriller plays that left the audience spellbound and on the edge of their seats. It has been rightly said that in life rarely do people seem what they truly are. So in the plays put forth by our budding actors, one could not help but suspect all the characters when a crime was committed. Each play enacted by the children was a masterpiece and revealed the hidden talent of the students who left no stone unturned in their attempt to leave the audience captivated by their performances.

Street Plays by Class IX - (December 2016)

Theatre is a mirror, a sharp reflection of the society and drama is life, with all the dull parts left out. It is the tool for intellectual enrichment. To bear the saying true, the students of Class 9 performed Street Plays to enrich the audience by showcasing their concern over social issues like exploitation of women and sexual abuse, cleanliness, ed tapism, demonetization and corruption along with promoting the spirit of being an Indian. Our amateur artists aroused awareness through their captivating performances. They made everyone ponder over the evils prevalent in our society, and also showed ways to tackle them through their confident and spirited performances. The plays were applauded by peers as well as parents.

Play by Class VII - (December 2016)

The budding actors of Class 7 mesmerizing the audience with their splendid performance.

“Stage is an essence of life and it is so much more real than life itself”. SMGS organized an enthralling event of play enactment on stage.Students of Class VII enthusiastically participated and showcased their enormous talents. The plays closely assisted the audience to indulge themselves into realities of life as well as into a comic ride to the world of imagination. All the students performed with an absolute zeal and confidence as the plays revolved around topics of mockery, demonetization and also took us back into the history of independence. Plays were entitled as ‘BahutBadaSawal’, ‘KhandaniGwah’, ‘Shaheed Bhagat Singh’, Noto kimari Sab par padhibhari’. It was a highly enchanting spectrum of such great acting, enactment, emotions and expressions all together. The event not only helped students to open up and voice their hidden talents but it also enabled them to apprehend the elements of theater as a whole. Our encouraging crowd was graced by the benign presence of the parents of these budding actors. The conclusion of such flamboyant event was made with energizing remarks of our respected Principal who truly enlightened the minds of these children. Overall it was a fabulous day that left all hearts happy and amused.

A theatre workshop was organized in St. Mark's Girls Sr. Sec. School for classes IV - IX on 19 December 2016. It was conducted by the students of Janki Devi Memorial College, Delhi University. It aimed towards giving an insight about acting skills, voice modulation, social issues etc. to the students. A small play was also presented by the team highlighting the social issue of Manual Scavengers. They also played few fun games with the students. It was an entertaining and thought provoking workshop.

Inter Class Play for Class 5 - (23 September 2016)

"A day without laughter is a day wasted" - Charlie Chaplin

Inspired by these words the students of Class V of Our school participated in the Inter Class Play Event held on 23 September 2016. The school stage witnessed many budding actors performing varied characters. They enchanted the audience with plays like - Punctuation Proclamation, The Refund, Vikram & Baital, Snowwhite and the 7 Kachus, Artistic Genius, Villa for Sale. The costumes and sets were bright and colourful. Amidst huge applause our Principal, Ms. Sheena Kalenga praised all the participants. She also thanked the parents for their precious time and support. It was enriching experience for the students as well as the audience.

Celebrating the bard - (April 2016)

'But Shakespeare 's magic could not copied be;
Within that circle none durst walk but he.'

As April is the birth month of William Shakespeare, a Monologue Enactment Competition was organized at our school to enable the students to develop an understanding and love for the writings of Shakespeare that have enthralled people over the ages. It was a splendid event that saw enthusiastic participation from students of Classes IX and X. As they rendered captivating monologues from the timeless classics of Shakespeare, the audience comprising of the judges, teachers and their peers sat mesmerized. Our Principal Ms. Sheena Kalenga applauded the participants for their exemplary performances and apprised them of interesting facts about Shakespeare. She also announced the winners along with the judges and congratulated them on their commendable renderence of their chosen monologues.

Street Play for Classes : IX & X - (18 November 2015)

"TALENT DEMANDS EXPOSURE WHILE INDIA REQUIRES REFORMS."

On 18 November 2015, the students of classes IX and X presented Street Plays which conveyed commendable messages relative to various blotches of the Indian society. From the 'dying art forms' of ancient India to the recent problems being faced by the info - tech modern India, of 'cyber crime' ,the street plays proved successful in enlightening young brains about societal issues. Domestic violence, restricted girl education, corruption, female infanticide, cyber bullying, eve teasing and most importantly, the society's negligence towards the mushroom growth of such problems evoke a thought of concern for the progress of India as a developing nation. The event was applauded by the parents who graced the occasion with their presence.Our Vice Principal, Ms. Sabina Shergill concluded the event by congratulating everybody with a stupendous performance.

Class V Play Event - (7 August 2015)

St. Mark’s Girls Senior Secondary School organized a Play Event for Class V on 7 August 2015 in the school auditorium. Some very known stories from the likes of Shakespeare to Ruskin Bond were brought to life on stage with absolute fun and fervor. Enthusiastic students of Class V mesmerized the audience by their brilliant performances.

The audience was caught unawares with the brimming talents of the students. If the Victorian Play transported audience to the Greek mythology, then the Secret Garden was full of mystery, The Bishop Candlesticks gave compassionate humane side. The Blue Umbrella had the audience engrossed in its dramatic storyline whereas the last but not the least, the Shakesparean classic, A Comedy of errors had the audience in splits. The cherry on the cake came as a surprise when the school Principal Ms. Sheena Kalenga and Vice Principal Ms. Sabina Shergill adjudged the best performers from each play. The event ended with a huge applause!

Inter Class Play Event for Class IV - (August 2015)

They say, "theatre gives you wings as an actor." The stage of St. Mark's Girls School witnessed many such winged actors of Class IV during an Inter Class Play Event. The little girls presenred before the audience a potpourri of plays ranging from folk tale, 'Alibaba and the Forty Thieves' to fractured fairy tale, 'Beauty is a Beast'. Plays like 'The Wizard of Oz' and 'The Enchanted Wood' tranported us to a fantastic world whereas the selfless love of the swallow in 'The Happy Prince' melted our hearts. Finally, we landed into the animal world in the play 'Charlotte's Web'.

It was an enriching experience for the students as well as the audience. The event ended with the prize distribution ceremony and a speech by the Principal, Ms. Kalinga.

Inter Class Play for Class III - (5 August 2015)

Our school organized an English Play Enactment on 5 August 2015. The parents were invited to watch the plays presented by the students of each section of Class III.

The plays were as follows :
III-A : Peter Pan, III-B : Malgudi Days, III-C : The Jungle Book, III-D : Hansel and Gretel, III-E : Jack and the Beanstalk and III-F : The Wizard of Oz.

The costumes of the students were authentic and they infused life into their enactment. Bright and colourful sets enhanced the presentations. Students performed with great zeal and enthusiasm. Amidst huge applause, our Principal Ms. Sheena Kalenga praised all the participants and the efforts put in by the teachers. Prizes were given to two best characters of each play. She thanked the parents for sparing their precious time and for being supportive.

Street Plays - (October 2014)

Movies will make you famous but theatre will make you good. Keeping the essence of goodness in mind, the students of class IX and X of St. Mark’s Girls Sr. Sec. School performed street plays that were inspired by Gandhian principles. Their endeavour was to spread the message of charity, forgiveness, honour and unconditional love for ones country. They also portrayed how cleanliness is important for ones own upliftment. The parents along with the students who were the spectators were spellbound by the charismatic and energizing performance of our students who are the concerned and responsible citizens of tomorrow. The Principal, Ms. Sheena Kalenga appreciated the students for their performance par excellence.

Play Enactment Class VI - (22 August 2014)

St. Mark’s Girls Sr. Sec School, Meera Bagh organised plays by the students of class VI on Friday, 22 August 2014. The theme was comedy which was intended to evoke laughter. Comedy in general contains elements of surprise, incompatibility, conflict and the effect of opposite expectations. Plays presented were ‘The Dear Departed‘, ’Chilli Pepper Chicks’, ’Villa For Sale’, ’Ambition’ and ‘A Frog Too Far’. Students looked beautiful and acted with full zeal and enthusiasm. The Principal Ms. Sheena appreciated the efforts of students and teachers. She also thanked the parents, without whose support the event would not have been possible.

Theatre for Class IV - (August 2014)

Students of Class IV presented plays based on Rohald Dahl's Revolting Rhymes. Famous Fairytales like Snow White and the seven dwarfs, Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk and Three Little Pigs were presented with a different endings.

Students dressed up as fairytale characters looked mesmerising.

English & Hindi Plays - (28 July 2014)

Drama is life with the dull bits cut out. In education it acts as a vehicle for exploring the relationship between knowledge and action.

Keeping the same view, the school organized the English and Hindi plays on 28 July 2014. The parents were invited to watch the plays presented by the students of each section of classes VII and VIII. The plays of Munshi Prem Chand werte staged by the students of class VII and that of G. B. Shaw by the students of class VIII. The costumes of the children were authentic and they infused life into their enactment. Amidst huge applause, our Principal Ms. Sheena Kalenga praised all the participants and encouraged them for their brilliant shows.

Theatre in Education - (December 2013)

"Good teaching is one fourth preparation and three fourth theatre" this quote very well justifies the existence of theatre groups like ATELIER. The Atelier Theatre group recently organised a play in our school to give the student's mind, body and soul a creative treat. Play titled "Can't Pay? Won't Pay!!" was performed by the students of SGTB Khalsa College. Dario Fo's adapted play "Can't Pay? Won't Pay!!" is a satire which talks about the present day scenario and throws light on the adverse economic conditions that a lower middle class family has to go through. It was a workshop for the budding actors of our school to learn theatre and confidently express themselves on stage. Sensitivity, concern, self reliance, integrity, adaptability and creativity were precisely the targets this programme focused on.

The students of Class V performed famous Sherlock Holmes detective plays written and created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.The character of Sherlock Holmes was famous for its astute logical reasoning,ability to perform almost any disguise and his use of forensic science skills to solve difficult cases.

It was quite involving and thrilling as one after another the mysteries unfolded and got solved with the criminals always getting their due.The students enjoyed enjoyed playing the different characters and it proved to be a fulfilling learning experience. The plays were - The Adventures of the Speckled Band, The Adventures of the Blue Carbuncle, Silver Blaze, The Adventures of the Cardboard Box and The Adventures of the Red Headed League. The Adventures of the Speckled Band was adjudged the best play.

Theatre in Education Workshop for Classes V to XI - (2013)

Atelier Theatre Group organised "Theatre In Education" workshops for the students of Classes V to XI of our school. Workshops of an hour each took place in a span of four weeks. Ms. Nitika and Mr. Vineet taught the students about the key elements of theatre. They were taught that theatre not only involves acting but also to emote. The students learnt to express and to get under the skin of the character. Voice modulation is one of the key elements of theatre and to teach the same to our budding actors various breathing and vocal exercises were done. The students were even taught to prepare scripts and direct them. Direction and enacting in them helped them know their strengths and weaknesses. At the end of these workshops, the students came out more confident. It was a learning experience for them.

Theatre Workshop - (17 & 18 May 2013)

The school organized a two day Theatre Workshop on 17 & 18 May 2013 for the teachers under the proficient guidance of Mr. Kuljeet Singh, the director of Atelier Theatre Group. The workshop was attended by twenty five teachers. An English professor at Khalsa College, Delhi University, Mr. Kuljeet piloted the teachers on nuances of theatre. The teachers learnt voice control, stage presence, use of props and lights, right posture, dialogue delivery and much more. The rule that ‘there is no thumb rule’ in theatrical performances was enlightening. A few exercises like brisk walk on stage, weaving a story, controlling one’s chakras, etc, were educative.

The impromptu enactment of a story as well as a scene brought out the best in the teachers and let them shed their inhibitions and stage fright. An open house discussion on various mythological characters was engaging. Various queries about script, symbolic props, presentation, etc, were resolved by our eminent guest. The fun filled and resourceful workshop enhanced the skills of the teachers.

Bachpan Theatre Festival - (8 May 2013)

Atelier Theatre Group organised BACHPAN THEATRE FESTIVAL 2013 that aimed at providing a stage for the young enthusiastics who are still in school. Supported Ministry of Culture, India , this featival aimed to offer a non - competitive space to the young minds to express their creativity on stage. St. Mark's Girls Sr. Sec. School was a proud part of this festival. The young talent of Class VIII presented a comedy play called MIND YOUR LANGUAGE. The play was an adaptation of the famous London television series called Mind Your Language. In the play young adults from various nationalities come together to learn English language. The perfected acts of the students playing the nuiances of the English illiterate adults invited peels of laughter from the audience every now and then. The hilarious play was applauded by one and all sitting in the audience.
