Christmas Celebrations - (December 2014)

Christmas is a time to expand our giving encompassing the friendless and needy near and far. Christmas is all about sharing.With this spirit St. Mark's Girls Senior Sec .School celebrated Christmas and new year with the children under the project udaan. Our school children wrapped gifts for the celebration with great ebullience. Children were made to play games followed by a healthy interaction about the importance of this festival. They enjoyed their festivities together with full zeal and the celebration turned out to b the one of it's kind.

Christmas waves a magic wand over this world, and behold, everything is softer and more beautiful.The tiny tots of Seedling and Sapling classes used low to no cost material like paper plates, ice cream sticks, soda cans etc., to make beautiful craft items related to Christmas like Santa Claus, Christmas trees, Bells, Rudolph, Snowman. The sweet little ones enjoyed making these and singing the Christmas Carols. The classrooms were later decorated with pine trees, tinsel, Santa and reindeers.

Culmination Ceremony Ganit Week - (16 to 22 December 2014)

'An investment in education pays the best interest as its great aim is not knowledge, it is action.'

In our endeavour to empower minds, we at St. Mark's Girls Sr. Sec. School, organised a GANIT week. The fiesta was held to commemorate the 127^th birth anniversary of the legendary mathematician, Mr. Srinivasan Ramanujan. The basic idea behind it was to kindle a passion for the seemingly dull and intimidating subject; to bring out the wondrous nature and the hidden magic in Mathematics.

To encourage the concept of psycho-motor learning (learning by doing), a slew of activities was conducted which saw enthusiastic participation from classes VI-XI. It was time for the students of class 6 to pull up their socks and put on their thinking caps as they were intrigued to answer diverse questions in a Quiz. The creative best of class VII was exhibited as they jotted down their thoughts in an Essay Writing Competition on ‘Marvels of Mathematics’. The fun quotient of Maths was further explored in the special screening of a documentary ‘The Genius of Srinivasa Ramanujan’ by Vigyan Prasar, held for the cognitive brains of 8th standard. Students of grade 9 were encouraged to speak up their minds in an interaction with their teachers regarding the innovations in the field of maths.

The dilettantes of class X gave us a glimpse of their artistic skills, amalgamating the concept of symmetry with art to create beautiful posters with origami work. Studies didn't deter class XI from indulging in the celebration. They enacted the roles of eminent mathematicians and gave expositions of the work done by those mathematicians. So it can aptly be said,"Learning gives creativity, creativity leads to thinking, thinking provides prowess which in turn makes one great."

Rang Mahotsav - (4 December 2014)

“Creativity is inventing, experimenting, taking risk, breaking rules, making mistakes and having fun” keeping these words in mind St. Mark’s Girls School organized ‘RANG MAHOTSAV a festival of art' on December 4, 2014. All students from class I to IV gathered in the lush green lawns of school premises to show their creative side.

The students were more then happy drawing and painting on the topic “Colour your dream”.

Their imagination had no limits. It was like magical journey through the world of colours and fantasy. The teachers also participated in the art event. It was fun filled day for each of them. The day ended with the note that “Art is the last form of magic that exists”.

Children's Day Celebrations - (14 November 2014)

Every year on 14^th November we celebrate our First Prime Minister Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru's birthday and Children's Day. He was a great lover of Children. Children called him Chacha out of love and affection. This year also it was celebrated in St. Mark's Girls school Meera Bagh with great pomp and show. Seedling and Sapling teachers organised a special assembly and disguised themselves as Children and presented programmes like Dance,Songs and Rhymes celebrating childhood for their beloved students and a pot luck party was organised for our tiny tots. Our 1^st and 2^nd Class teachers had also disguised themselves as Children and presented programmes like Dance, Skit, Poem Recitation and Songs for their Children. Our 3^rd, 4^th, and 5^th Class Children had gone for an excursion to 'Aeroplanet'on this special day. This provided a Gala Celebration with all the eatables and amusement by lot of activities and games.

Hindi Week Celebrations - (3 to 10 November 2014)

Hindi is our National language. To promote the language, St. Mark’s Girls Sr. Sec. School had organised ‘Hindi Week’ from 3^rd November to 10^th November 2014, as a means to spread Nationalism and awareness of our Hindi Culture among the students from classes VI to X. The students were given a particular topic by the teachers to perform activities like ‘Sabse Bara Gapori’, ‘Swatantrata Senani Ka Charitrankan’, ‘Chitra sahit vyangatmak Lekhan’, ‘Muhavre par aadharit Natya Manchan’, ‘Lokoktiyo par aadharit Natya Manchan’ etc. The objective of the event was to make the students aware of the history of our culture.

Halloween’s Day Celebration - (31 October 2014)

Halloween is a popular pagan festival celebrated on the last day of October to remember the dead and saints. It has a special significance for children, who dress in funny or ghostly costumes and knock on neighbourhood doors shouting “Trick or Treat!”

Keeping the spirits of Halloween students of St. Mark’s Girls Sr. Sec. School celebrated the festival of ghosts by taking part in various Halloween activities like making Halloween paper bags, ghost motifs, spider web necklaces, jack o lanterns, ghost face painting and Halloween costume designing. As an ISA endeavour class V students prepared Halloween PPT which was shown in classes I to V through the smart class followed by Halloween card making activity.

The students enjoyed these activities with fun and fervour. The children were thrilled to visit the different Halloween corners prepared by the students and teachers of the school. This also spread a spooky feel among one and all. Students were enlightened as to the relevance of celebrating Halloween’s day. The festivities were all the more elaborated when the students clad in amazing Halloween costumes and visited the seedling sapling classes to play Trick or Treat. The enthusiasm and the excitement of the students added to the Halloween fever and hope everyone got blessed by all the saints and the other deities. Happy Halloween!

Halloween Day Celebrations of Class Seedling - (31 October 2014)

Halloween is celebrated on 31 October every year. It is a festival of fun for kids. Halloween Day was celebrated in our school. Children were shown different corners set up for the Halloween themes with special symbols like pumpkin, bat, spider, black cat, etc.

Some of the junior girls were dressed up in different Halloween characters and distributed sweets among Seedling children. A special activity was conducted by Seedling kids. They enjoyed making white colour ghost using paper plates.

Diwali, the festival of lights was celebrated with enthusiasm and excitement at St. Mark’s Girls School. The students unfolded their creative abilities in a string of activities. Students of class v prepared interesting power point presentationsdepicting the life of Lord Rama. They explained the significance of the festival to the students of class III who thoroughly enjoyed the presentation. The students of class III made beautiful greeting cards and wished each other Happy Diwali.

The little sapling sparklers of SMGS, Meera Bagh celebrated the festivals of lights in their own little ways by doing various craft activities like; making and decorating their own lanterns, colouring in rangoli patterns etc.

The children were also sensitized about the menace of pollution whereby they took the pledge of "Say No To Crackers".

UN Week - (13 to 17 October 2014)

Peace is very essential for the survival of the world. With this aim, United Nations was established in 1945. UN is making efforts to save the world from the scourge of war and to reduce the tensions between countries of the world. To highlight and applaud the efforts of the UN, St. Mark’s Girls Sr. Sec. School celebrated UN WEEK from 13 to 17 October 2014. A Powerpoint Presentation was prepared for class IX about the formation, organs and functions of the UN and was followed by a Questionnaire. The students were highly enriched by this ocean of information.

A mock UN General Assembly session was also presented by students of class X and XI. The topic was ‘Food Security’. The students enacted the role of representatives of various developed and developing countries like USA, China, UK, Japan, India, Syria, Russia, Somalia etc. The representatives discussed about the availability and accessibility of food in their countries. The audience was enlightened about the food crisis faced by some countries of the world.

"Wash your hands everyday to keep diseases at bay.”

The world has acknowledged the significance of sanitation and hygiene and observed 'Global Hand washing Day'. Global Hand washing Day, held annually on October 15 is a worldwide celebration of hand washing with soap with a motive to raise awareness about being healthy and live a disease free life. St. Mark's Girls Sr. Sec. School also celebrated the day for the well being of the children. The students of class 5 presented an educational short skit and a beautiful dance to educate the young girls the benefits of hand washing leading to good health. They were told why they should keep their hands clean and when should they wash their hands with soap to avoid germs. Our vice Principal Ms. Sabena Shergill joined the drive and encouraged the children to inculcate this good habit .The children also acknowledged and pledged to take care of their hands by keeping them clean all the time.

"Wherever you turn there is face of Allah”

Hari Raya Haji (“great day of Haj in Malay”) or Eid al- Adha is also known as the ‘Festival of Sacrifice’.

The festival was celebrated by Muslims all over the world on 5^th October, 2014. It commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his only son in obedience of command from God. On this day, the world remembers his unwavering faith & trust in God. The festival is celebrated for 4 days. The festival also marks the end of the ‘Hajj’, which is the Muslim’s pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca.

The students of Class I to V of St. Mark’s Girls Senior Secondary School, Meera Bagh celebrated the festival on 9^th October, 2014 by making and exchanging greeting cards on this occasion. A few representatives from class V also presented a Power Point presentation on the same. The students were briefed about the origin, significance and rituals related to the festival.

"Feasts and Festivals are a feature of all major religions"

The family of St. Mark's Girls Senior Secondary School, Meera Bagh believes in celebrating each festival whole heartedly. Durga Puja Celebrations were held during a Special Assembly on 29 September 2014. The celebrations began with the prayer followed by the school song. The teachers and students sang the melodious bengali song 'Durge Durge Durgoti Nashini'. A student of Class V gave a speech stating the importance of Durga Puja. Students of Class V performed a beautiful 'Dhunuchi Dance'. Their grace left everyone spell bound. Our Vice Principal thanked everyone for their efforts and wished everyone a very Happy Durga Puja.

Gandhi Jayanti Celebrations - (29 September 2014)

“My religion is based on truth and non-violence. Truth is my God. Non-violence is the means of realising Him”

To imbibe the values of Truth & Honesty in our tiny tots, St. Marks Girls Sr. Sec. School, Meera Bagh, organised a function on Gandhi Jayanti on 29 September 2014. The function started with a melodious choir of class Seedling in which the girls praised The Father of the Nation, followed by the poems presented by the girls of class Sapling. The girls wore full expressions while reciting the poems. The function concluded with a wonderful skit presented by the children of class I. The students enacted the various incidents of the life of Mahatma Gandhi. It enabled all the students to understand the values and principles in which Mahatma Gandhi always believed. The event was a great success.

Teddy Bear Day - (8 September 2014)

Teddy Bear Day was celebrated on 8 September 2014 in St. Marks Girls School. Children enjoyed colouring teddy bear and tearing and pasting activity was done. It was a fun filled activity.

Grandparents Day Celebrations - (8 September 2014)

A grandparent is a very important person to be treasured and valued above most all other relationships. Taking the time to remember a grandparent requires so very little effort, and yet means so much. Taking this thought further St. Mark’s Girls Sr. Sec. School, Meera Bagh celebrated Grandparents Day today. The grandparents of the participating children came in full attendance looking their best. Through their various performances, the children showed their love towards their grandparents.

The programme started off with a documentary followed up by English and Hindi poem recitation. Children also presented folk fusion dances from Rajasthan, Kashmir, Italy and Korea. An interactive session was also organized for the grandparents where they played interesting games and won prizes also. A beautiful choir group also performed for them.

Concluding the occasion, our Principal Ms. Sheena Kalenga addressed the gathering with her encouraging words to the children and thanked the grandparents. All the grandparents enjoyed the programme and left with a smile on their face.

Newspaper Carrier Day - (4 September 2014)

Newspaper carrier day was celebrated on 4 September by seedling children. Newspaper carrier day honours everyone who is now or once was a newspaper carrier. The list includes thousands, if not millions of people. Students of seedling class Show their gratitude towards newspaper carrier ,character enacted by a school peon to give them a glimpse of newspaper carrier person and the importance of his job by which every one is benefited.

The 'JOIE DE VIVRE' experience one gets when dabbling with different colours is unparallel. To herald a refreshing start to the new academic session, our school organized a Poster Making Competition for class IX. It was based on the theme 'I love my Delhi'.

Posters depicting Delhi's infrastructure, heritage and architecture provided a cognitive element to this event. The students seemed to be on a talent-exhibiting spree as they donned the artist's hat. All thoughts and emotions sublimated into fine art pieces as our dilettantes accentuated their magnum opuses by adding strokes of varied hues to paper.

With the creative quotient at its zenith, the aesthetic vibe prevailed all over.

Independence Day Celebrations - (13 August 2014)

To celebrate the spirit of Independence, St. Mark’s Girls School organised several activities. A G.K. Quiz Competition was organised for the parents and students of sapling classes on 13 August 2014. Twenty students along with their zealous parents participated in A VERY INDIAN QUIZ in which their knowledge about Indian history, culture and heritage was tested. The parents along with their wards gave a brilliant performance. On the same day, a collage making competition was organised for the parents and students of seedling to develop the spirit of patriotism. The theme was “INCREDIBLE INDIA“.It was colours galore as the talented parents poured all their craft on blank sheets and turned them into masterpieces of paper-craft.

Keeping the spirit of Independence alive and echoing the national festive spirit on 14 August, Our Principal Ms. Sheena Kalenga and Vice-Principal Ms. Sabina Shergill hoisted the national flag along with the youngest student of our school KHANAK SALUJA of Seedling F. The students of Class I and II presented patriotic songs to mark the occasion and there was a foot tapping dance by the students of Classes V and VI. The celebrations concluded with our principal, Ms. Sheena Kalenga giving away a cheque to the coordinator of SOS CHILDREN’S VILLAGE FOR THE UNDERPREVILEDGE. As that was the right spirit to celebrate independence and being free because freedom only ensures that a privileged and responsible citizen can uplift the downtrodden on his or her own free-will and make our country a better place to live in.

Son and Daughter Day - (11 August 2014)

On 11 August 2014 “Son and Daughter day” was celebrated in a special way. Our tiny tots did “Tiara Making” activity on this occasion. Children colored the flowers beautifully. Pasting of flowers on band was done. They decorated their Tiara with different designs by applying glitter on the bands. Finally they wore beautiful “Tiara” on their heads back home.

Rakhi Making Celebraions for Seedling - (August 2014)

Love has different expressions. The love of a brother and a sister is one of the purest forms of it. This bondness between a brother and a sister was expressed by the students of classes seedling, when they made lovely Rakhis truly depicted their love and feelings for their near and dear ones. These activities not only provide an opportunity to the students to show their creativity but also brings them closer to our culture. The day was surely very enjoyable for all the students.

World Nature Conservation Day - (28 July 2014)

World Nature Conservation Day is observed every year on 28^th July. Nature provides us with various indispensable services, but excessive and unsustainable use of the natural resources is causing degradation of nature. World Nature Conservation Day is observed to encourage people the wise management of these resources.

So as to sensitize the little ones, the senior school student incharges of 'Kesholoy' organized a marvellous activity for students of Classes III to V at St. Mark's Girls Sr. Sec. School. The little ones made paper bags of waste printed sheets under the guidance of these student incharges. Later these paper bags were distributed by the student incharges, accompanied by their Eco Club Teachers, to the nearby shopkeepers and vegetable sellers, so as to discourage them from using plastic bags. The increasing use of plastic is having an adverse effect on nature and this simple deed not only helped in creating awareness among our students but also among the general public.

Celebrated National Day of France - (14 July 2014)

Le quatorze juillet or the 14^th July is celebrated as the National Day of France. We, at St. Mark's Girl's Sr. Sec School, celebrated it with great enthusiasm.

The french department conducted a few activities, to help the students of Classes VI - IX, understand the relevance of this day. The students actively participated in all the activities assigned to them. Each student wore a french flag to express their excitement. The day began with the various activities conducted in classes VI - IX. Class VI made beautiful collages on the famous things of France, whereas Class VII students did a Quiz on France. Class VIII performed an activity by writing about the 'prison of bastille' and 'french freedom fighters'. Class IX made powerpoint presentations and presented in the class on the topics given to them. The celebrations amplified when a group of students performed a french song 'la maison où j'ai grandi' for the classes.

The event was wrapped up with the national anthem of France and a video on French Revolution. The french department was exhilerated to celebrate this day with great joy and festivity.

Van Mahotsav Celebrations - (7 July 2014)

“What we are doing to the forests of the world is but a mirror reflection of what we are doing to ourselves and one another”. Keeping this in mind our school organized a few activities on the occasion of Van Mahotsav.

Van Mahotsav, the festival of trees, is an annual festival in India, celebrated in the first week of July. On 7 July 2014, the Eco Club incharges of our school, accompanied by their teacher coordinators, planted a few saplings in the school garden to commemorate Van Mahotsav. The students of classes VII and VIII were encouraged to compose short poems in Hindi, on the theme of nature. Some of the best poems were also recited by the students in their class. The Eco Club incharges tried to spread awareness amongst the students about the importance of planting trees, and the harm caused by cutting them.

Earth Day Celebrations - (2014)

They say, "We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children." and to sensitize the students about the preservation of our planet Earth, SMGS organized a fun activity on the Earth Day 2014.

Our Saplings of SMGS spent last week learning about recycling paper on recycling machine in the school and made hand -made sheets on which they wrote different slogans to save Earth like-save power, forests, water, trees, reduce, reuse and recycle which they took it back home as a momento. They also planted a sapling in the school garden which was a wonderful experience for them. Last but not the least, Children took an oath to commit themselves to the protection of nature and the environment.

Students of classes I to V participated in the Earth Day Celebrations activity. Every class made a huge banner, where every student imprinted her hand and wrote a message for Mother Earth. The students pledged to preserve their planet. The messages written by them showed their awareness about their planet and were a delight to read. The students were excited to make the banners and had a lot of fun. The banners were later displayed on the school building.

SAVING BUTTERFLIES
Class VII students did research work on butterflies and made powerpoint presentations on saving butterflies in groups of five. The students learnt how butterflies are important to us and why it is important to save them when they are on the verge of getting extinct. Two powerpoint presentations from each section were presented in the class along with beautiful videos followed by a quiz in all sections. The students gained knowledge about the life cycle of butterflies, different modes of saving them, the various host plants of butterflies and planted their saplings in the school garden as a small step to save the most beautiful and endangered species of the earth.

Heritage Day Celebrations - (18 April 2014)

World Heritage Day is observed across the world on 18 April. The day is observed with an aim to create awareness among the people to conserve and protect the valuable assets and cultural heritage across the world.

To mark the importance of the day and to make people aware about the aim of this day, SMGS conducted a month long programme ‘Green Peace’ as part of British Council’s ISA activity. This programme included different activities related to conservation of mother earth.

GROUP DISCUSSION
The programme started with a dance performance in which students of class V showcased how five elements of nature i.e. water, fire, wind, earth, sky show their anger when exploited beyond a certain limit. Group discussion on ‘Our Blue Planet’ was the highlight of the event which was conducted by the students of class VIII. Various issues related to conservation of water bodies across the globe were discussed. Students shared their knowledge about causes of water pollution and its effects on living beings. They also discussed about steps taken by the government for conservation of water. They also suggested a few measures that can be taken to solve water contamination problem. Dr. Debanik Mukerjee, the scientist at Aravalli Biodiversity Park, Delhi was the chief guest of the event. At the end of the discussion, Dr. Mukerjee appreciated the students for their concern of water bodies and also enlightened them about some other serious issues related to conservation of biodiversity.

QUIZ
A power point presentation was made on the historical monuments which represented Delhi's heritage and the students of Class I were acquainted with the significance of these monuments and the need to protect them. A small quiz was held to conclude the session.

EXTEMPORE
The students of class II, dressed up in the attire of any Indian state, and spoke a few lines on the culture and the tradition of the state they were representing. The activity was held in the classroom itself during the 3^rd and 4^th periods. The children wore dresses of different states of India such as Kerala, Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Haryana, Bengal etc. They talked about the famous food, language spoken, dance, religion, and festivals of the state they represented. Three best entries were selected by the teachers on the basis of the costume worn by the student and content of the lines spoken by the student. The students showed interest and participated actively in the heritage day celebration.

A VISIT TO RED FORT
The students of class III went for an excursion to the heritage site of Delhi, the Red Fort. As they reached the spot, they immediately started the tour passing through the Meena Bazaar. Then they saw various parts of the Red Fort like Diwan-i-Aam, Diwan-i-Khas, Shahjahan’s Throne, The Royal Bath, The Char Bagh, Mumtaz Mahal Museum and Museum of Struggle for freedom. It was a good educational excursion for the children.

TALK WITH THE VISITOR
There was a talk by Mr. Vikramjeet Singh, Sr. Manager, Software Technologies, for class IV students. The talk was held in the auditorium of the school where our Junior Educational Supervisor, Ms. Sumbul, welcomed Mr. Vikramjeet Singh. He enlightened the students with the history of Delhi. How Delhi got its name, the dynasties that ruled Delhi and various forts built in Delhi were some topics he threw light on. Students enjoyed the talk and got to know many facts about the rich heritage of their own city. The talk was followed by an interactive session between Mr. Vikramjeet Singh and the students. The students threw a volley of questions at him and satiated their hunger of knowledge.

KNOW YOUR MEDICINAL PLANTS
“Natural abilities are like natural plants that need pruning by study.”
How prophetic is the sound of these words by Francis Backon?

The world of plants is truly amazing, packed with loads and loads of goodness in them. Under the Green Peace Celebration the activity “Know Your Medicinal Plants” was held. The students of Class V participated with great enthusiasm. Almost 180 students participated in this activity which aimed at making them aware with the plant world around them and how beneficial it could be.

The activity was an elaborate process which included selection of medicinal plants, gathering information about their classification, habitat, physical features and therapeutic uses. The activity was vividly divided into several tiers of working areas. The students were divided into groups of five. Each group had done research work on their selected medicinal plant and made fact files. The best files were chosen and presented by the students in front of the audience. Saplings of the medicinal plants like amla, aloe vera, tulsi, ajwain, mint, ashoka, lemon, etc. were planted in the school garden. The students gained a lot from this activity by establishing facts and strengthening their insight into the medicinal aspect of plants.

POWER POINT PRESENTATIONS
Power Point presentations on World Heritage sites were prepared by the students of class XII. Unesco sites of five countries were shown. They included Netherlands, Greece, Malaysia, Italy and India. The presentations were shown to classes VI and VII. It was followed by a questionnaire which was done by the students. The young students came to know about the importance of these sites also.

A VISIT TO HUMAYUN’S TOMB
Delhi is the landmark in the development of Mughal architecture. The students of class VII were taken on an educational trip to one of the Mughal monuments worth visiting “Humayun’s Tomb”.

It is undoubtedly the most picturesque of all the sites, with its perfect shapes. It is a very beautiful monument decorated with geometrical patterns and shapes with stones.

It was amazing experience to see the architectural symmetry of the tomb and its gardens. It was interesting to know about the extraordinary life of Humayun. The children were enlightened about his time by Ms. Gunjan Chawala, the teacher at SMGS.

Junior Annual Fundtion - (7 March 2014)

They say “Dance communicates man’s deepest, highest and most true spiritual thoughts and emotions far better than words, spoken or written” and the junior students of SMGS presented ‘Navras’, the expressions of life on the 7th of March 2014. These nine rasas ranging from laughter, anger to devotion are felt by globally, unrestricted, to any culture, country or tribe. The students at SMGS attempted to create these emotions with all their varieties.

Class I students tickled everybody’s funny bone and made them smile with their performance on Hasya Rasa. Their performance on Vatsalya rasa filled everybody with affection and love for kids.

Students of Class III made us check the sad reality of children living a sad life of poverty, slogging hard to make the two ends meet. Their performance on Karuna Rasa filled everybody with compassion and gave out the message of true freedom for children. Shringara means love and beauty. The performance on shringara Rasa evoked myriad of emotions including jealousy, compassion, romance and love. Anger of Mother Nature and its five elements was seen in the dance by the students class 4 who performed the Raudra Rasa. Little girls of class 2 took us all into the magical world with their depiction of Adhbhuta Rasa. Fear was invoked all around when class 5 students presented their performance of Bhayanaka Rasa. Following which came the performance of Veer Rasa. It gave us a glimpse of girl power, their will and courage to combat everything wrong and stand tall. Culminating all the rasas into one is the Shanta Rasa and class 5 girls filled the atmosphere with calmness and serenity with their performance on Shanta Rasa. The audience was enthralled after their musical journey into the world of emotions and soul.

After the performances our Chairman, Mr. T. P. Aggarwal, Chairperson, Ms. Anjali Aggarwal, Principal, Ms. Sheena Kalinga and Vice Principal, Ms. Shergill felicitated the students with awards on the basis of their year-round performance.

Clouded by a river of vivid emotions and torrential memories St. Mark’s Girls Sr. Sec. School bade farewell to the class of XII on 30 January 2014. The closure of the most important event of the life of the students was marked by a presentation and a medley of songs presented by the students of class XI. The citation ceremony witnessed the giving away of the mementoes to the students as a token of love and remembrance. Students of the outgoing batch and their parents poured out their overwhelmed heart. The school Principal Ms. Sheena Kalenga released this flock of birds with multi hued feathers into the vast world of career, competition and family life with a hope that they reach the zenith.

26 January - a date no Indian can forget, a day for every Indian to walk with their heads held high, a day which fills our hearts with pride and dignity but at the same time reminds us of the agony that our freedom fighters had to bear to build a free democratic nation. The transition of India from a British colony to asovereign, secular and democratic nation was indeed historical and our school celebrated this phenomenal enforcement of the Indian Constitution on 24 January 2014. To mark 65 years of our Republic India, our Principal, Ms. Sheena Kalenga hoisted the national flag of India , symbolizing liberty. Any festivity, be it cultural or patriotic is incomplete without our feet tapping to beat of music. So, with a jubilant heart the children of class IV and V gave a zestful dance perfomance. The choir group also paid their tribute to mother India, casting forth their melody which engrossed the audience with their melodious voice. To conclude the program, our Principal, Ms. Sheena Kalenga gave a dynamic speech inculcating values of self-esteem and freedom in children and expressing her pride as a citizen of India.

SMGS wore a festive look and celebrated Christmas Week as a joyous affair from 21^st of December to 24^th of December 2013. To spread the Christmas cheer, parties were organised for students of classes seedling to VI. The school ground was filled by students in a party mood. It was a colourful spectacle to see students dancing with their teachers. Vice Principal of the school, Ms. Shergill and Junior Educational Supervisor, Ms. Sumbul, celebrated with the kids and made them play games like ‘Run to the Symbol’ and ‘Passing the Parcel ’. Continuing the magic of Christmas, an incredible Magic Show was organised for the students. The kids were in complete awe of the magician’s performance and craved for more. Just when kids were infused with the enthralling festive spirit, Santa made the grand entry with sweets and presents. Students received gifts from Santa and got lots of pictures clicked with him. The uncontained delight of students on meeting their favourite hero, Santa Claus, was a treat for the eyes.

St. Mark’s Girls Sr. Sec. School held its Annual Function ‘DAKSH’ on 3 December 2013. ‘Daksh’ stands for perfection and accomplishment, and the show that was put forth by the students was truly spell binding - leaving the audience that comprised of parents and dignitaries yearning for more. Dance is the hidden language of the soul. Without music and dance, life would be a mistake. This is the reason why the performances at Daksh were purely musical.

The school’s Founder Chairperson Mr. T. P. Aggarwal, the Chairperson Ms. Anjali Aggarwal and the Manager of the school Mr. Rahul Aggarwal graced the occasion. The first performance was a shadow dance- a rare dance form- on our national song ‘Vande Matram’. Next in row was a thought provoking dance on the theme - ‘Save the Girl Child’. Other dances’ performed at the Annual Function included a Santhali dance, an Indo-Western contemporary Mirror dance and a Chinese Ribbon dance. Harmonial blends of the tribal dances of India and Africa, and that of Salsa and the folk dance of the Baul Tribe were a visual treat. The serene Statue dance and Sufi dance lifted one’s spirit and created an aura of positivity around all present.

The school’s choir too entertained the audience with stimulating performances that made them groove to their music. The beginning of the function stimulated one’s senses and by the exodus, the audience was completely captivated. At the end , the item showcased by the students was ‘Tridhara’ which gave the audience a glimpse of the various dance forms across our country such as Manipuri, Kathak, Odissi and Kathakali that are a reflection of our India. The show was simply food for one’s soul and proved that music and dance are two realms which have no boundaries.

One Nation Reading Together (ONTR) is an annual event, where children in schools across the country spend 30 minutes (preferably at 12 noon) on the designated day, reading for fun and participating in other activities that celebrate reading as a pleasurable and enriching experience. SMGS on being invited by Scholastic India joined schools all across the country on Friday, 29 November 2013, to celebrate the pleasures of reading. Students of classes II to V indulged themselves in fun reading in the last period and enjoyed this recreational activity.

SMGS celebrated Children’s Day and paid tribute to ‘Chacha’ Nehru on 14^th of November 2013. Celebrations and activities were held to make the children feel special and exercise their right to enjoy their innocence. The day began with a special assembly for classes Seedling and Sapling. Placards depicting life of Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru were shown and the history of Children’s Day was discussed with the kids. Children dressed up as Chacha Nehru and enacted. Teachers tried to step in the shoes of children and dressed up as students to perform for the kids and be one with them. Games like Fruit Salad and Musical Chairs were played. Children enjoyed taking part in fun races. The assembly was followed with a dance party and a lunch get together for children. A teacher dressed up as Chacha Nehru and visited all the classes wishing children and telling them about the nation’s first Prime Minister’s fondness for children. Class 1 students had a talent show in which every student exhibited her talent like singing, dancing recitation, acting etc. Students also made three-dimensional paper roses and pinned them on their shirt pockets to pay homage to Chacha Nehru. Class 2 students made badges from cut-outs of rose and colourful wrist bands with cut-outs of butterflies and flowers. PPTs on Chacha Nehru and movies for kids were shown in all the classes from Seedling to class 2.

‘Camlin Sparkles’ organised an on the spot ‘Greeting Card Making’ activity for the students of classes 3 to 5 on account of Children’s Day. Children made colourful sparkling cards for their friends and poured their love for them on the paper. One best entry from each class was given a prize.

In one’s life it is necessary to have much fun and laughter. Life is to be enjoyed, not just endured. With such thoughts in mind, St. Mark’s Girls Sr. Sec. School organised a Diwali Fete on 1 November2013. It was a day of sheer fun and frolic for the students and their families who escorted the juniors to the school. All the students had a wonderful time at the fete, playing games such as Ring-a-Gift, Lucky 7, Matka, Car Racing, etc. They played games and won gifts that added to their joy. At the Lucky Draw, there were many who got truly LUCKY winning gifts such as a Lenovo Tab, refrigerator, washing machine, etc; their joy knew no bounds as it was a truly ‘Happy Diwali’ for them. There were wonderful food-stalls at the fete that tickled the taste buds of the students and left them yearning for more. At the fete, the students enjoyed eating pizzas, ice-creams, noodles, chaats etc. The Music Stall at the fete was a great hit with the students where they danced away all their troubles.

Our Chairperson Ms. Anjali Aggarwal also graced the fete with her presence. She played various games and enjoyed herself thoroughly at the fete. What made the fete even more wonderful was the fact that the proceeds of the fete will go for a noble cause- to help the victims of the Odisha disaster.

After the horrors of World War II, the United Nations was created to provide a forum for nations to work out their problems in a peaceful way and to help nations work together to create a better world for all. On 24 October 1945, the United Nations Charter came into existence, formally understood as birth of the UN. For more than 60 years since then, the United Nations has shone as humanity's greatest hope for a more peaceful, just and sustainable world. It has helped to promote human rights, freedom and democracy, erase poverty and hunger, improve health and education, and urge the governments of the world to work together in peace.In every corner of the world, the United Nations is a living testament of hope.Our school too celebrated this day to highlight the important achievements for a better world that the UN has won for all humanity. Various events were held for different classes.

The students of class V were indulged in making flags of the member countries of the UN. The organs of the UN were depicted in the form of posters by class IX. The talent of the students left everyone awestruck. VIII standard threw light on the agencies of the UN by preparing a brochure. The students of class X conducted informative quizzes about the UN for VI standard. VII standard reflected the beautiful relationship between UN and the world in the form of beautiful collages. A mock General Assembly was presented by the students of classes IX & X focusing on various topics like terrorism, environmental degradation, crisis in Syria, India as sixth permanent member and the active role of UN. The main aim of this skit was to create awareness among students. The inspiring words of our Vice-Principal, Ms. Shergill, motivated all to work harder.

Eid Celebrations - (15 October 2013)

SMGS has always taken initiative and pride in celebrating the various festivals of India in the endeavour to provide maximum and constant exposure and knowledge of our vast culture. On 15^th October 2013, the students of class 4 participated enthusiastically in the Eid-UL-Ada celebrations. It started with a speech on why Eid is celebrated by one of the students and was followed by a Qawwali singing programme. The authentic costumes of students added colour to the festive mood and transported us to a different world altogether.

Dussehra, the festival to celebrate the victory of good over evil, was celebrated in SMGS on 9 October 2013 with a lot of religious zeal and fervour. Our students participated in various activities to promote the message of ‘good over evil’. Class Seedling teachers organised a colourful puppet show and Class Sapling teachers organised a shadow puppet show for the kids and explained the legend from the epic, The Ramayana behind celebrating Dussehra. Classes 1 and 2 students were shown a Power-point, explaining the true message of the festival i.e. celebration of good over evil through peaceful and non violent ways. Class 3 students made a poster showing a wrong that happens around them that they want to correct and wrote the measures that can be taken to discourage it. Class 4 students wrote an inspiring quotation from ‘The Ramayana’ and weaved a story related to the quotation written by them, explaining the quotation and presenting their own ideas about it.

Dussehra is celebrated all over India in different ways. Class 5 students made a flip book on the various myths behind the festival and the different ways in which it is celebrated all over the country. Students researched and highlighted various facts that traced back the origin of the festival to various fascinating Hindu mythological legends. The entire primary wing enjoyed doing the activities and the feeling of goodness filled the environment all around.

“Hate the sin, love the sinner.”, very simple and yet profound saying reminds us of a great revolutionary, Mahatma Gandhi. Students of SMGS remembered this great leader and his values on 1 October 2013 to celebrate the birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation.

Various activities were held for the junior classes. Class 2 made badges promoting the idea of peace, one of the principal ideals of Bapu. The students drew and wrote messages to promote their own ideas of peace and trotted around with pride wearing the badges made by them. Class 3 made beautiful book marks and wrote a quotation by Gandhiji on them. The students wrote inspiring words said by Bapu. The students of Class IV gave a skit presentation on this occasion. The presentation was held for classes Sapling, I and V. The skits were based on the important incidents of Bapu's life from childhood to the era of freedom struggle. The skit inculcated the various Gandhian Principles like truth, honesty and love for all. The children enjoyed learning moral values through a medium of playful presentations. As a part of the celebrations on that day, a quiz was held for the students of class V. It was an inter-house quiz contest based on questions relating Gandhiji. All the students participated. The classes were divided into four houses i.e - Nehru, Gandhi, Shastri and Patel. The students participated enthusiastically and also learnt many new things about Gandhiji.

It is said that Grandparents are similar to a piece of string handy to have around and easily wrapped around the fingers of their Grandchildren. Students of SMGS made an effort to invest in the memory bank of their grandparents this Grandparents Day. The school held various activities to celebrate Grandparents day on 6th September.

Students of classes Seedling and Sapling made cards for their grandparents. Family picture trees and hand impressions of the toddlers were used to create a beautiful memory. Classes 1 had put up a choir medley of old hindi songs for their grandparents. On this occasion the students of class 2 presented a medley of 4 dances. The little ones mesmerized the audience with their spell binding performance. The smiles and applause of the grandparents showed that they were awestruck and thrilled. Neha Manot of class 2-E recited a poem “Grandma’s Glasses” in English and Mannat Behl of class 2-A captivated everyone with her Hindi poem “Dadaji”. Grandparents enjoyed seeing their darlings singing and dancing for them. Students of class 3 made beautiful cards for their grandparents. Some pasted their pictures on the cards and few of them drew their pictures. The enthusiasm was there to be seen. Beautiful messages were written to acknowledge the selfless love of their grandparents for them. Class 4 wrote acrostic poems using the first letter of the word ‘GRANDPARENT’ for their grandparents. Students poured their heart out and penned down their feelings beautifully. Class 5 spoke on their favourite grandparent for a minute. They brought their grandparents’ pictures, various things that are used by their grandparents and represent them, sketches of their grandparents and vividly expressed their love for them.

Janmashtami commemorates the earthly appearance of Krishna, who is described in India’s sacred writings as God himself. One of the biggest religious festivals in the world, it is celebrated by millions of people around the world.

Our school celebrated the festival of Janmashtami with fervour and zest. The students of Class VII performed a dance which depicted the birth of Lord Krishna. Dressed up in colourful attire, the students danced with great enthusiasm and mesmerized the audience.

Independence Day Ccelebrations opened with the Brick Making Activity organised for Classes VI to VIII on 13 and 14 August at St. Mark's Girls Sr. Sec School Meera Bagh. Students were asked to make bricks of different dimensions using pastel sheet. Then they were asked to arrange the bricks and make historical monuments. Class IV made the India Gate, Class V - The Red Fort, Class VI - The Qutab Minar. They worked in groups.

The main motive behind this activity was to inculcate the feeling of national integration & the spirit of patriotism. These monuments were displayed at the school reception.

15 August is the most important day in the history of India. On this fortunate day our country became free after many centuries. So we celebrate this day with great zeal every year.

Our school celebrated Independence Day on 14 August 2013. The day began with flag hoisting. Our Principal, Ms. Sheena hoisted the National Flag. It was followed by a short speech given by the girls of Class V. After their inspiring speech a patriotic song "Jai Jai Bharat Desh Hamara" was sung by students of Class ll and lll instigating feelings of patriotism in our hearts. It was followed by a patriotic dance performance again by the students of Class ll and lll on the song "Mile Sur Mera Tumhara" which was spell-binding. Our Principal then addressed the students and urged them to be proud of being an Indian.

Thus we celebrated Independence Day in our school. This day always reminds us of the untold sacrifices of the freedom fighters. We should worship those patriots who shed their blood for achieving freedom.

Hindi week was held at SMGS from 29 July to 2 August 2013. The week had interesting activities lined up for the students, providing them a wonderful podium to enhance their confidence and help them speak out their mind. The students of classes III to X took part in varied field and portrayed their inherent talent for their mother tongue in the activities viz., calligraphy writing competition, spin a yarn competition, radio jockey competition, composing a poem, enacting short play and quiz based on the renowned Hindi poets. The students were appreciated for their excellent performance and were awarded with certificates.

The guru was patience, optimism and love personified. He was the one who did not dismiss every morning thinking that it is the same as yesterday but saw everyday as if he was seeing it for the first time like a new born child. Gurudev, as fondly remembered by one and all, believed that love is the only reality and not merely a sentiment. He was a versatile poet, philosopher, educationist, essayist, play wright and a spiritual guru. It is said that his music reached even the drivers of bullock carts and those in the humbler walks of life.

The students of St. Mark’s Girls Sr. Sec. School, Meera Bagh, paid a floral tribute to this knight of harmony on his birth anniversary and also celebrated the 100 years of his being conferred as a noble laureate, with reverence and fervour. He won the Nobel Prize for his soulful anthology ‘Geetanjali’.

The zestful students presented six dances on the songs penned down by Tagore like ‘Aaj Dhanu Khete’, ‘Hare re re re’, ‘Mon Mor Meghu sangi’, ‘Ora Okaroney Chonchol’ on 7 May 2013.

These dances cast an enigmatic spell on the spectators. Rendition of poems such as ‘When the Mind is Without Fear’, ‘Sleep Stealer’, ‘Cloud and waves’ and ‘Hard Times’ stole the heart and spirit of one and all. 9 May 2013 was marked by the charismatic presentation of the play ‘Chandalika’ that was performed by the students of class XI.

The power point presentation on Tagore was also shown to mark the day. Truly his mortal remains perished but left behind a heritage of verses and music, ideas and ideals to inspire all. This was Tagore, when comes another!

Earth Day Carnival - (26 April 2013)

Our students became a part of the Earth Day Carnival organized by the Delhi Government Eco Club at the Chief Minister's Residence on April 26, 2013. There were over 3000 students’ from various schools of Delhi and 8 different kinds of activities organized by WWF. A group of 8 girls of classes IX and X, accompanied by their teacher incharge, Ms. Anjali Handa attended this colourful event.

The Nature Trail at the Chief Minister’s residence, which has exotic flora and fauna and indigenous trees besides habitats of bats and various birds, brought them closer to nature.

The natural trail was decorated with eco-friendly material and was divided into various parts for activities like story-telling session, making of animal masks, making posters, newspaper habitat game and film screening session. It was an amazing learning experience for the students participating in the various activities as well as seeing puppet show and heritage of India through bioscope.

The students cherish the time spent there and realised that we must be more environment friendly to conserve mother earth and ensure a secure future.

Earth Day Celebrations – (22 – 23 April 2013)

The wealth of the nation is its air, water, soil, forests, minerals, rivers, lakes, oceans, scenic beauty, wildlife habitats and biodiversity… These biological systems are the sustaining wealth of the world. Earth is the only planet in our solar system teeming with incredible biodiversity. Learning about and protecting this biodiversity is what Earth Day is all about.

Henceforth, Earth Day was celebrated at St. Mark’s Girls Sr. Sec. School on 22 and 23 April 2013.

The entire primary wing took part in the Earth Day celebrations on 22 April 2013. Seedling classes celebrated Earth day in the classrooms with fun filled activities. Children were enlightened about the importance of the Earth day and were given incentives.

The students of Sapling classes were taken to the recycling room and shown how to recycle a paper. Then they used the recycled paper by cutting it in different shapes and writing slogans on them.

Class I had a ‘Talk on Endangered Species.’ Five participants from each class dressed up as an endangered animal and spoke on it for about 30 sec to 1 minute. The first prize was bagged by Anshula Banerjee (I-E). The second prize was bagged by Sifat Kaur (I-E). The third prize was shared by Parul Khurana (I-D) and Devina Sharma (I-E). The Special prize was won by Chesta (I-F), Tanisha Rajpal (I-D), Dhriti (I-F) and Palak (I-F)
Class 2 organized a ‘Tatto Making’ classroom activity. The entire class was divided into teams of two students each. Partners made a colourful tattoo (theme nature) on each other’s wrist.

Class III students wrote poems on nature of about 4-6 lines and drew a sketch explaining the idea of their poem. The best entries were rewarded. The first prize was bagged by Harshita Gulati (III-B). The second prize was bagged by Janvi Chhabra (III-A) and Vrinda (III-C)
‘Paper Graffiti’ competition was held for class 4 students. The entire class was divided into teams of 2 students each. Each team drew a graffiti exploring the theme of nature and earth.. The first prize was bagged by Rhyme and Gauri (IV-C). The second prize was bagged by Srishti Punj and Tanya Sethi (IV-D). The third prize was bagged by Shreya Sharma and Prabhnain Sehgal (IV-D).

Class V students participated in ‘News Bulletin – A Talk on Animal World’. Five participants from each class anchored a show in which they picked up an interesting fact on ‘Animal World’ and presented to the audience in an interesting manner. The first prize was bagged by Jyoti Chhabra, Vidhi Taneja, Tanishka Kanojia, Urvi Wahi and Monica Pal (V-E). The second prize was bagged by Lakshita Chhabra, Shreya Chaudhary, Muskan Luthra, Dewankshi Ahuja and Palak Aggarwal (V-C). The third prize was bagged by Chahat Nihalani, Amisha Bembi, Khushi Gupta, Harshita Kohli and Aastha Bariyar (V-A).

Students of classes III, IV and V also put up a ‘Pledge Board’ where they wrote the pledge they wanted to take for their planet and pinned it on the board.

On 23 April 2013, the senior students of the school were at their creative edge. There was Nest Making Activity for classes VI and IX. The students were divided in groups and asked to make models of a bird and a nest. The students, using eco-friendly material and the technique of paper mache made beautiful models. The students of Class X made power-point presentation on nature, environmental protection and problems posing threat to our Mother Earth. Two class representatives from each section went to different sections of class VII and showed their presentation on the smart class screen explaining, discussing and interacting with their junior mates and talking about the ways they can adopt to conserve the nature. The students of class VII were quite inquisitive and actively participated coming up with their queries.
There was Poetry Writing Competition for Class VIII. The students of Class XI staged street play before students of classes VII, VIII and IX in the school hall. The plays were to demonstrate support for environmental protection and sustain the precious natural economy.

Baisakhi Celebrations - (12 April 2013)

The harvest festival of Baisakhi, celebrated on April 13/14 every year, is a time for renewed faith and energy. People of north India, especially in the villages of Punjab, swing to the beats of drums and celebrate the day with great pleasure. This festival was celebrated with immense gusto, gaiety and enthusiasm at St. Mark’s Girls Sr. Sec. School on 12 April 2013.

The students of class VIII of the school participated with great zeal in a Poster Making Competition and exhibited their talent on this auspicious occasion. Their paintings were breathtaking and exhibited the true spirit of the festival. It was a successful event and everyone enjoyed the festivities.

World Sparrow Day - (20 March 2013)

Ms. Sheila Dikshit along with school children celebrated World Sparrow Day at her residence in New Delhi on 20 March 2013.

On the occasion of world house sparrow day, she expressed concern over the declining number of house sparrows in the city. Three students and one teacher from eco club St. Mark’s Girls Sr. Sec. School participated in the Sparrow Conservation Program. A student, in her speech during the program emphasized on rapid urbanization that had created obstacles in habitat of birds. The species was an important bio indicator and danger to its number is a matter of concern and debate. ''The decline in its number is a grim reminder of degradation of urban environment and the danger from it to human welfare in the long run".

The program ended with an exhibition and release of a booklet over sparrow conservation for Delhi by the C.M. It helped the students to understand the need to preserve the endangered species in the city and create awareness regarding the same. The conservation mission will be continued in the school premises with related activities such as bird nest making, keeping water and food containers for the house sparrows.

Martyr’s Day - (30 January 2013)

30^th January, 1948 was the ominous day of Indian history when the Father of our Nation, Mahatma Gandhi was shot dead by a fanatic Hindu named Nathuram Godse.

To remember this fateful day, class IX students of our school took out a rally on 30^th January 2013. They made numerous posters, banners to spread the message of peace, harmony among the people of the nearby societies.

The rally conducted by the institution of ‘The Art of Living’ was a new experience for the students. There were 38 girls escorted by two teachers of the school.

A movie ‘The making of Mahatma’ was also shown to the students of class VIII and IX in the school auditorium.

Republic Day Celebrations - (24 January 2013)

Our school celebrated the Republic Day on 24 of January 2013. Principal Ms. Sheena hoisted the National flag. It was followed by National Anthem and a patriotic song presented by school choir. The senior girls of class VII, VIII and IX presented a scintillating dance performance wearing colourful costumes. It was followed by a speech on Republic Day by Simrran of class XI. 24^th of January was also the National Girl Child Day. Shivangi Arora of class XI gave a speech on ‘The Importance of Girls in Society’ and also vocalized the need to improve the condition of girl child in society. Our Principal Ms. Sheena addressed the students and urged the girls to feel proud being an Indian. She motivated the girls to achieve their goals in life and also to feel proud being a girl child.

Teachers Day was celebrated with great aplomb at St. Mark's Girls Senior Secondary School . The school management threw a party for all the staff members at 'Pirates of Grill' in Rajouri Garden. The teachers were in a joyous mood, ready to celebrate 'their' day. The ambience of the place heightened the sense of joy and soon the teachers were enjoying the sumptuous buffets as well as dancing to the beats of the latest music. The Principal Mrs. Sheena Kalenga and the Vice Principal Ms. Sabina Shergill gave greeting cards to all the teachers and wished them. The Chairperson Mrs. Anjali Aggarwal also graced the gathering with her presence. The teachers played tambola and shared jokes, making it a truly memorable day.

Eid Celebrations - (17 August 2012)

Eid-Ul-Fitr is a fun filled festival of Muslims. It marks the importance of giving.Class III students celebrated the function at the hall by performing the 'Allah-uh-Akbar' prayer.

Little girls also drseesd up in colourful costumes and staged a Qwali performance on ''Eid Mubarak". The students also put up a miniature 'Meena Baazar' at the entrance of the hall.

Ms. Sherill came on the stage to wish. Everyone enjoyed the show.

The school celebrated India‘s 65 years of independence with great enthusiasm and fervor. The celebration began with flag hoisting by our honorable principal Ms. Sheena Kalinga. The students of Class V paid rich tributes to the freedom fighters and the motherland by a dance performance. Ashveen of Class XI gave a thought provoking speech on this occasion. The entire school echoed with the patriotic songs sung by the students. The principal in her speech remembered the contributions of those great personalities who sacrificed their lives to free their motherland from the Britishers. She also instilled in the students the spirit of pride for our tricolor.

The festival of Janamashtami was celebrated on 9 August 2012 with great enthusiasm by the students of Class I. The young girls beautifully depicted the life of Lord Krishna through various tableaus. From the birth of Lord Krishna in the prison to the Geeta - Updesh, all scenes were depicted nicely. The students of the primary wing visited the school auditorium and were mesmerized by the beautiful narration about Shri Krishna's life.

World Laughter Day (2 May 2012)

The celebration of laughter day is a positive manifestation for world peace and is intended to build up a global consciousness of brotherhood and friendship through laughter. On this note our school too celebrated World Laughter Day on 2^nd May 2012. The day began with a discussion on “laughter” by the volunteers of DELHI LAUGHTER CLUB. Later, the volunteers made the students practice ‘LAUGHER YOGA’ which proved to be a great stress buster for all. Also a painting competition was organized on the junior as well as the senior level with “Laughter” as the theme. The students expressed the true significance of laughter with their exquisite ideas and drawings.

Baisakhi Celebrations (15 April 2012)

St. Marks Girls Sr. Sec School celebrated Baisakhi on the 15^th of April with great zest. Baisakhi marks the beginning of the new year particularly in northern India. In a short Assembly, students were told about this seasonal festivals importance this seasonal festival’s importance. Dressed in typical folk attire, the students of class VIII then enthralled the audience with an energetic Bhangra. The wonderful dance performance was followed by giving away of the medals and certificates to the winners of the International English Olympiad, by the Headmistress of the school- Ms.Sabina Shergill. She wished the students on this special festival and congratulated the winners.

Holi Celebrations 2012

It was a day full of joy, fun and revelry as the little toddlers of sapling class celebrated Holi – a festival of colours and love, with great enthusiasm. The children were really excited about the celebration and played Holi with their parents and teachers. All the kids played Holi with natural skin-friendly colours. The natural colours were made using turmeric powder, henna, rose and marigold flowers, and the children had fun smearing colours on each other. The kids were also explained about the significance of Holi and the significance of colours in one’s life.

Diwali is a reason to celebrate as the air is filled with festive joy and fervor. Everywhere there are celebrations galore, and the splendor and warmth of this glorious festival was celebrated in our school with great aplomb. As per the part of the extensive Diwali celebrations, the enactment of the Ramayana by the students of class II and III was the main highlight. The portrayal of the mythological characters on the stage was very real and charismatic. Ram, Lakshman and Sita played by the third standard students, Kuhuk, Aarti and Arshdeep respectively, were outstanding but Anushka Sharma in her portrayal of cunning ‘Manthra’ was a force to reckon with. The depiction of Ramayana when Lord Rama was sent to a fourteen year exile, Sita-haran Lanka Vinash and Return of Lord Rama were very immaculately dramatized for the viewers. From constumes to stage settings to the performance everything simply fell in place and made an outstanding watch for the audience. Two dance performances part of the play by class II students were treat to the eyes. The efforts of the teachers as well as the students were applauded and extremely appreciated by our Headmistress, Ms. Sabina Shergill. The wonderful portrayal and the skillfully presented Ramayana definitely gave all the more reason to the students to celebrate Diwali with grandeur and zest!

The stundents of IX standard put forth a mesmerizing classical dance on the occasion of Deepavali. With ‘diyas' in hand they performed with a plomb and enchanted the audience. They looked radiant in their traditional dresses and definitely brightened the joyous revelry.

Eid Celebrations - (30 August 2011)

Eid- The festival of peace, harmony and brotherhood was celebrated in the St. Mark’s Girls Sr. Sec School with zeal and enthusiasm. The programme started with an introductory note as to why and how the Eid is celebrated. The students of Class I projected a soulful Quawwali. It was followed by a skit based on the very famous story ‘Idgah’ written by Munshi Premchand. Our Vice-Principal Ms. Sabina Shergill witnessed the programme and was delighted see the little performers. She also tasted the special dish called ‘Sewain’ made specially for the Eid celebration. She spoke a few words of encouragement to the children and wished them ‘Eid Mubarak’. The programme was enjoyed by one and all.

Janmashtami Celebrations - (19 August 2011)

Every year Janmashtami is celebrated in the school with great fervor. This year also, on August 19^th 2011, the school buzzed with the same excitement. The teachers of Sapling put in a lot of effort and put forth a beautiful skit depicting the various life stages of Lord Krishna.

The skit was not only enjoyable but also educational. The children of Seedling and Sapling who formed the audience had a great time. Such programmes not only educate the children about Indian mythology but also instill moral values in them. Altogether, it was a memorable day for the little ones.

Independence Day Celebrations - (12 August 2011)

The 64^th Independence Day was celebrated with great fervour on 12 August 2011 at St. Mark’s Girls Sr. Sec .School. The students of class VII hosted the whole program.

The parents of class VII were thrilled to hear the wonderful patriotic song and be the part of silent National Anthem. The play staged showed our great leaders in the heaven feeling remorseful to see their country infested with corruption. Eventually the play gave a very wise message to the audience, making them ponder over how the citizens themselves are somehow responsible for this evil.

The program proved that Independence Day is more about understanding the freedom struggle and political unrest that the country went through than just feeling a sense of freedom.

The chairperson of the school, Ms. Anjali Aggarwal, gave vote of thanks. She said that the program was very inspiring and motivated the students for having a sense of pride for being born in the free country.

The program ended with a patriotic feeling and everyone taking a pledge to bring honour to their country.

Baisakhi Celebrations - (13 April 2011)

The students celebrated Baisakhi, which is a harvest festival of Punjab and Haryana, on 13^th April 2011 with a lot of pomp and gusto. An energetic bhangra was performed by the students clad in traditional attire on the beats of dhol. A joyful festive atmosphere was created.
