Yoga is the journey of the self, through the self, to the self.

The students of SMGS celebrated the International Yoga Day as remarked annually on 21 June. Yoga in Sanskrit originally means “to join”. In simple words yoga aims to join the body and mind with the soul. If you look at it from a spiritual point of view then it can be said that yogis follow a step by step process to dissolve the ego consciousness with the soul consciousness, through which they can realize the Paramatma (God). Students were indulged into series of asanas that involved a holistic balance of both mind and body. They performed yogic exercises and pranayama to celebrate this day. The logo reflects the harmony and peace for humanity. Folding of both hands in the logo symbolize Yoga, the union which reflects the union of individual consciousness with that of universal consciousness, a perfect harmony between mind and body, man and nature; a wholesome approach to health and well-being. The complete session of meditation and relaxation helped students learn the positive impacts of Yoga and understand its power that it not only leaves its impression on our body but on our souls as a whole. It teaches us to cure what need not be endured and endure what cannot be cured.

Mother is the truest friend we have. She is the beauty and the sunshine of life. When trials heavy and sudden fall upon us, when adversity takes the place of prosperity, when friends desert us, when troubles thicken around us, still will she cling to us and dissipate the clouds of darkness and cause peace to return to our hearts. It’s our mothers who guide us with love and strength. To celebrate the spirit of motherhood SMGS invited mothers on May 7 to participate in various activities like Karaoke, Rangoli Making, Dress Designing and Foot Loose. Mother daughter duo of class-I showcased their dancing moves on foot tapping songs whereas students of Class-II paired up with their mothers and tried their hands on making Rangoli Designs. The ‘Fashion Show’ lived upto it’s name when tiny tots of sapling walked the ramp with their mothers whereas little ones of seedling had fun singing songs at karaoke.

On a wintry December day, specifically the 23rd of December, the little ones of class four exhibited their dramatic best by putting forth a play depicting the birth of Christ. A moment of great exaltation, the play unfolded in the backdrop of the carol ‘Mary’s boy child Jesus Christ’. Little children dressed as Joseph and Mary sat near a hay stack where the lord was born. Then, came the three wisemen, the three kings of the orient, who came to see baby Jesus. The kings were bearing gifts and they travelled over moors and mountains to reach Bethlehem where, the lord was born. Children made a wonderful display of following the star to reach Bethlehem. To add to the attraction and enhance the effect of the birth of Christ, a dance of angels “Away in a manger” was put forth. The dance was mesmerizing. Little faces dressed as angels looked heavenly. To round off the celebration came Santa Claus, jingling his bells, wherein, little girls dressed as Santa were dancing on the tune of carol ‘Santa Claus is coming to town’. The enthusiasm of the children was unparalleled as they had their parents to witness their performance and the show was a great success. The play was concluded with Christmas wishes to all. It brought forth the true potential of the kids and a cause for celebration to all.

Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body.” The joy of reading books can't be described in words. It's something that we understand only by real experience. It is as necessary for our body as food is for our body. It is the reading which gives us food for thought when we have no special work to do. It is thus the most wholesome hobby and should be acquired as early in life as possible.

Hindi is our National language.
Owing to the increasing western influence, we have all begun to neglect our roots. The situation has become so precarious that a need to dedicate a special day (14 September) to our mother tongue, Hindi, has arisen. Our school strongly believes in giving due respect and recognition to our own language and culture. To contribute more in this direction, we did our bit by organizing a Hindi week. This initiative involved a variety of morale-boosting and refreshing activities to encourage the students think beyond curricular limits. The celebrations took place from 28th September to 1st October and saw zestful participation from classes VI-X. The plethora of activities which took place included the 'Samvad Vachan Pratiyogita' for class VI to promote concise yet meaningful speaking and 'Samachar Vachan' which was held for VII standard with the purpose of imparting to them an intellectual insight. Our roots are what keep us grounded. Traditional values that are bestowed upon us by our culture are embedded in them. Culture has an immensely significant role to play in molding our demeanor, in building the strength of our character. Such a construct which remains an indispensable part of our society is entitled to a celebration in its name. What better way to celebrate Indian Sanskriti than holding an extravaganza for its linguistic constituent - Sanskrit ?

Keeping this in mind, our school organized a Sanskrit week for classes VI - X which spanned over 28.09.2015 to 30.09.2015. A myriad of activities were performed by the students over these the week. Class VI students were involved in Shabdanirmanam, while class VII had to enact a story in Sanskrit. For class VIII, a G.K. Quiz on Sanskrit epics and Grammar was conducted. The students of class IX had to compose a poem in Sanskrit on the topics given by the teachers. Class X was engaged in the preparation of a newspaper in the same.

The Prize Distribution Ceremony was held on 30.09.15. We were obliged by the esteemed presence of the honorable Chief Guest - Prof. Dr. Ichha Ram Dwivedi, a Sanskrit poet laureate. Prof. Dwivedi has published 62 books and submitted 75 research papers along with over 300 articles. His mere presence in the auditorium illuminated the entirety of the hall. Being a man of his accomplishments, he truly gratified us by coming to the ceremony. He even enlightened all those who were present with knowledge about the language. He lucidly explained to them its essence. He was very appreciative of the school's initiative to brush off the layers of dust from the beauty of our ancestral language.

The ceremony came to an end with the Chief Guest, along with our Principal and Vice Principal giving away the prizes to the winners from their respective classes.
